Does every other vet get fed up with them too? The guys who log in once every ten days, then complain that you give them contrary orders every time they log in, and that they keep dying because they get left in enemy territory?
The teams are always even to start with, until the inactives kick in. They're worse than hackers! I know the MCA was really hard-hit last time, I guess the League were this time, although they had some really quality vets...
There are over 6k pilots registered, yet altogether maybe 500 play? *Sniff* I smell ..... (Chewin' The Fat fans know what I mean)
Arrgghhh! My frustration has all gone now. I leave you in peace.
I still want a game for vets only though. Say, only pilots who made at least 5 ticks per day in game 3 get to play? Or averaged a certain amount of ticks over a month? (I know there are the odd few who miss ticks on some days they usually get...). The vet's game would be amazing...fast action, no need for pointless orders like "Save your moves...!"
 :(
That would be great, but it doesn't mean you're good if you play a lot of turns. Take the Waffles for example. They played a lot of turns but they are dumber then goldfish.

Dude, I'm pretty sure even Goldfish can learn through conditioning;the Waffles make the same mess every damn time!!!:madred:

Yes, very annoying. The only reason that Navy troops got through into MCA space in the first place is cause half our fleet was inactive all the time. Of course, that is no longer a problem.

Yes, goldfish can learn by conditioning. It's kinda cool. Turn on the aquarium light every time right before you feed them. Pretty soon, they associate the light with food. If you turn it on, they all swim up to the top and start being more active.
An alternative I see to the Vet's game would be to delete the friggin' inactives. If you don't play so many turns in so many days, POOF! There goes your ship. Make a vacation setting to compensate. Put yourself on vacation (requires 5 moves), your ship powers down (if under lvl 7) and you can't power up and you don't get any moves for 72 hrs. However, you won't be deleted regardless of inactivity.
That way vets who know they're going to be gone for awhile (vacation, hospital stay, whatever) don't get their accounts deleted, but those 'whenever' players don't get to just fill a slot in your ranks keeping you from getting new pilots and then complaining 5 days later that they got left behind and blown away.
yeh, its stupid having inactives in the game. 1)they slow the game down. 2)they are so DAMN annoying!
as Spektyr said, there should be a vacaation mode where u put ur account in vacaation and it won't get deleted. if you're away for say 3 days without using a move u get deleted cause u didn't put ur account into vacaation...

Inactive can be very bad, but i think don't delete their account, if they come in after some days, just let them have their ship destroyed. Perhaps also they should have been picked up by a random faction. And remember, all these things will made people upset, and upset people tend to destroy the reason why. So the amount of hackers, multis and so on could be increased.

"When you have to choose between two groups of people to please, pick the one that is the biggest pain in the tush if you don't please them, and then do what they want." - Me.
A: Multies and other dissidents - *presses 'delete' key* Hrm. One down, more to go.
B: Vets - 'You have New Mail' Downloading 1.3 million flame mails...
Uh, I'll take 'Questions a Retard can Answer' for 1000.

I would agree with this... Hyperiums used a token system, based around the time you spent playing the game...
Perhaps each turn you spend moves, would count towards the time you could go on vacation... one turn = one turn of vacation perhaps... that way, should a veteran need a week or two off (as we all do if something happens) they would be able to do so...
Come to that, after round 1's 900-odd turns, we would each have had enough to sit out an entire round... :)
You would need a delay before the vacation time started though, otherwise people would use it to escape destruction... perhaps 4 turns (ie 12 hours) would be a good idea? Also: disabled for FC's... it would cripple a faction if their FC decided to go on vacation... or if the FC does enter Vacation mode, the voting starts automatically...
I really think that this should be a feature...
Oh, vacation mode shouldn't keep you from being destroyed... simply power you down.
If you want to have the best odds of coming back to a living ship, you'd need to plan ahead, fly to your HQ and active vacation mod there.
People would still be able to exploit vacation mode if it rendered you invunerable... like on weekends when activity is lower. A lvl 10 ship not in a battle zone could wreak some havoc, enter vacation mode, voila... no one around close enough to destroy him before he completed the 12 hours.
The ONLY purpose of vacation mode is to keep you from being deleted due to inactivity. Not to keep your ship from being destroyed by enemy fire. It should power you down simply because that's smart.
Of course lvl 7 and higher ships cannot power down... so you'd better be sure your fleet can hold onto whatever sector you're 'vacationing' in.
One other Idea: 'Deep Cold'. Everyone knows that space is REALLY freakin' cold. Vacation mode could use this as an excuse to make the under lvl 7 ships invunerable. After say... 2 days real time of vacation mode, your ship has become so cold that it's completely invisible to sensors. Lvl 7 and up ships could maybe be 'powered down' this way. Still be visible to gats/seekers, but be so cold as to escape normal sensor sweeps.
This way if you're smart enough to pick a good vacation spot, after a couple days of being gone you become a lot safer there. This way if you're using vacation mode to escape revenge for something you just did... it won't work. But if you're using it legitimately, it will work for you.
Another option would be to not allow vacation mode if you've fired or jumped in the last 1-2 turns. (You have to put your ship into orbit/docking so you can take the command section to wherever you're vacationing)

In most games with the vacation system, you have to wait minimum 3 days before you come back, but you disappear from the game under that time. In hyperiums all battles on your planets continued if you went into vacation mode... So if you adapted that, if you went into vacation mode with enemy ships in your sector, they could fire on you, but if they went away and then back, they cannot see you at all.
That could be another good way to handle it. I still like my way better :grntngue: , but IMHO the most important thing is to get the idea implimented, along with booting people who don't log in for days and don't go on vacation mode first.
If you are going to get people booted they should have been inactive for quite a time and should be notified in advance.
I know several people play this game from work/school and don't have a home internet connection so can only play 9-5 Monday to Friday, they should not be penalised for this.
It would be better if a player didn't use any moves for 3+days continuous was snet a message over ingame comms saying that they were in danger of losing their account. At this point their ship should be remotley powered down even if lvl7+ and they would be unable to vote on FC matters. If they still didn't manage to get moves in for a further 2 days their account should be deleted from the game. This gives people who are unable to play at short notice for any length of time a fair chance but would reduce the amount of inactives
Another option would be to include a movement requirment into the game t&c so that if someone does not use say 30% of their available moves in any given 7 day period they are considered an inactive and the above is then implemented.
I don't think anyone's arguing with that here Wal_Nai... we're talking about people that are inactive for more than a weekend.
Sending them an ingame comm is kinda pointless if you ask me. If they were coming online regularly and checking their comms, they wouldn't have a problem in the first place. Better to send it to their e-mail acct.
Besides, this wouldn't go into effect until game 4 at the earliest. (If it does at all). Simple enough to make the start-up for game 4 include a message saying "Attention: You must remain active or your account will be deleted after X days inactive. A vacation feature has been added for those who will be gone for extended time." Then you have the standard "I understand" button you have to click to proceed.
Due warning, if you don't play, you get booted. Go whine somewhere else.
Just my 2 credits worth.
