View Full Version : Fast attacking exploit

A few people have pointed out to me (and I recall a post where a player made more than 5 attacks in a turn) that there was an exploit where you could attacking quickly more than 5 times in a turn.

I've implemented a system now to prevent this - just a warning to anybody who tries it now that the system may lock them out for the rest of the turn if they try it!

If you are attacking and it kicks you back to the Main Computer screen then just log off and log in again before trying again.

You mean refreshing right after it starts to submit?
Why not make it so you can only attack every, what, 30, 45 seconds?

Is fast attack itself forbidden or only the exploit for getting more then 5 moves?

I'm definitely for removing the chance to get more than 5 attacks, but not at the cost of preventing fast T-1 firing...

I hope that's not the case in this fix.

And make last minute "kill the incoming" fest impossible?

NO, NO, NO, NO, NO and NO! :)

Better that then losing turns.

No, using fast attacks to gain more than 5 attacks per turn is against the rules. As in exploiting any other bug to gain an advantage.

good to hear someone's still fixing things in EoCo, thx for that... =)

I gotta ask then, 'cos this has never been answered, and I think we'd all like it cleared up...

does "gaining advantage by exploiting the ability" to choose your Faction constitute cheating ?

But using fast attack or any of its variations to use 5 (and only 5) moves per turn is ok (if you keep all your moves till 0:1:0 or just want to attack quickly) ?

Well, I just did 5 repairs in T-1, so that works. Dunno about firing... I don't expect I'll be finding 5 gats anytime soon.

Yeah - don't let those turns loose - they're real killers! :)

No-one has answered these questions though:
1. Does choosing your side, and/or organising it with others outside the game cheating?
2. Is firing off your shots by hitting the attack button multiple times without waiting for the movie sequence to finish cheating? What if I disable it, or don't download the correct codec? Or use multiple windows?

OK - attacking quickly without watching the movies is not against the rules. If you want to attack quickly then that's fine - it's obviously not always the best thing to do in the game.

In essence if you log into the game and you are given a chosen team - then the system has assigned you that team - that is who you should start playing for. Sensibly though, I feel there isn't much point in going "Oh god I hate The Oman, I don't want to be Oman, I'll wait and be another team" - as each game is different, there will be some players you've played with before, and some players who you haven't - and it's a great way to meet new people. Statistically there is very little between each team, so it all depends on who else is on your side. I think it's very petty to try and wait to become a different faction. Chances are throughout the game you will be a number of different factions so I just feel it a bit petty. I'm pretty sure I've been on every faction at one point or another.

So my conclusion is that it IS an exploit of the game system, and it IS against the rules to do it. The game system assigns you a team - you should play on that team. But the nitty gritty facts of this are - that it will only be extreme circumstances where I will enforce this upon players. It's difficult to define situations where this constitutes a large unfairness to the other players.

With the fast attacking exploit - players with a fast enough connection could attack another player more times than others could - this is cheating.

You may have noticed an increase in "Bothered" taunts. Our faction had a list of people to shoot during the last 15 minutes. If one of us happened to shoot at someone who just happed to get blown up, our guns would freese - even into the next turn. We could aim, target, shoot, but there would be no effect. The only way to counter this, we found, was by logging off and logging back in. This is going to make shooting several people at the end of a turn nearly impossible. As it is, I lost 5 moves. *Very frustrated* :madred:

Ahh yes, a few flaws in the design (-; I'll fix that now.

If you get locked out - make sure you log off and log back in.

I'll fix the other bits now...
