View Full Version : Old pilots, new factions, still friends ?

This is a question related to people playing this game. In almost all factions there are discussions about how much a player takes this game real. How much he gets involved in the game story. The game as a hard rule: when you get killed after the destruction of your HQ you may become a member of the faction you fought for weeks or months. You thought that the pilots in that faction are bad guys, cheaters, backstabbers, and who know what else... Then you join that faction and discover that they are no more no less the same as your friends in you old faction. Everybody wants to win but how much is important in this game to establish friendship ?

You all know what happened today I want to know your opinions on this stuff.

My opinion is that if we find friends, I mean people who understands you and appreciate you and your ideas and you do the same to them it's not important if you play in the same faction or in different enemy faction you know that everybody is playing only for having fun and not for personal matters, and the frienship must survive to the game story and your trust in the people you've appreciated as an ally should be trasnsformed in respect for the same person as an enemy and the knowledge he play this game always in a leal way.

I've blasted lots of old friends from previous rounds.. and enjoyed every moment of it... not 'cos they're old friends - but because I know they are a threat to my current Faction.

personally, i'm not into this "Faction Fanaticism" myself - sure you'll hear me propagandise my current Faction, or boost morale over comms... and i'll fight for whatever Faction against whatever Faction to the death..... then, after the dustcovers are taken off my new ship :p i'll work just as hard and "loyally" for the new one....

we've all witnessed the ugliness of someone taking this game too seriously - ranging from spamming comms with obscenities when they're reassigned, to the Hackers whatever "mischief" they get up too - and its just pathetic, and spoils something fun that should be taken very, very lightly....

actually: its a bit like that old honour/dishonour thing...

alls fair in love+war, its just cheaters who are scurm...

well, i CAN`T vote on any of this possibilities, cause none of them matches my opinion...

i had the same problem, as i was League in the first place and the combined forces of Oman and TTW invaded us. i met some real good guys in my first faction (DS members ;) ) and as we were finally beaten and i lost my ship, i became Oman... i was "forced" to join the faction that was our enemy from the start, "THE" enemy!
at that time the Omans and TTW were still on the hunt after the remaining Leagues (you held out very long and caused us some headaches! ;) ) and i didn`t want to shoot on them, so i chose to become a rep ship... well, it turned out that that wasn`t too bad after all... although i miss my guns from time to time :p

as kudos said the thingy about honour and stuff was involved a bit, too i think...

but the whole "enemy" faction thingy is just a temporarily thing. i think its just that someone is still too close to the things you "gone through with your old faction"... like a trauma or stuff :bigeye:

everyone must know vor himself if he wants to shoot on people he played with in his "former life" or if he resists, but no one can`t be blamed for shooting his former comrades!

after all its just a game!
unfortunatelly many players can`t devide real life and the game anymore... its the same thing that happens in every online game sooner or later :(

p.s.: and don`t think i don`t know what i`m talking about! i know this feeling very well ( not anger but dissapointment ), but i`m trying to get rid of it. its hard but its the only way to play this game and have real fun!

I was one of the last League to die but if I'd died earlier I wouldn't have fired on any League. Not right away at least.
About shooting friends? Sure, they make the best targets.

but it's also a game you can find friends.
personaly i found some friends here :-)

One of the same country,
One like the tower in londong BingBong,
One like an eye you coke too long
and so on.

and my first Faction is also my Faction i will be in each game :-)

It's like my spirit of this game.

I create also some rules about this game.
My rules.

I would never attack some good known pilots from my ex Faction.
I try to be fair.
I try to say the truth.
I will never cheating.

It's only a game with some rules, with fun, with a little bit spirit and with friends :-))

Thats a good question. I don't think i would fire to kill a known friend, but that may be why I only have 12 kills in 6 weeks. :p I would be very carful around them. It would come down to the current situation. But in most cases I wouldn't fire on a friend.

I've always been a repair ship, except for the first time, so this question doesn't really bother me.
The question is: Do I repair my friends? Hehe. :D
But I voted that I'd shoot no matter what.

Absoloodle-doodle. There's a small part of me that says "No - that wouldn't be nice!", but then a hairy, taloned fist reaches into my heart, plucks out the filthy piece of humanity & throws it to the ground where my angry hob-nails can grind it into the dirt.

Call me the product of an abusive childhood, fighting for survival in a conflict between two races. But sometimes love is best expressed by means of energy weapons searing with deadly intent across the cold vacuum of space.

Anyway, it's bad manners to kill people to whom one has not been properly introduced. One should only do so when strictly necessary (bored, in a bad mood, etc.)

I still don't get all this My first faction is my only faction Bu77Sh!t.

I started off in game 1 as an MCA and though on the forums and in the game I fought to the death for the MCA, If the MCA HQ had been destroyed it would have been as simple as crossing my fingers and saying "Please dont put me in Oman" and then if I had been assigned to Oman I would have just clicked next and gotten on with it. The reason for this was that i had come to respect and recognise most TTW pilots due to our long term Conflict, But the Oman seemed so much more sinister (All the alleged spies, Multis and Hackers s'posedly came from the oman) and i just didnt think that i would fit in.

I play this game for its social aspect and thus it is important to have a friend in your faction but how are you going to guarantee a friend in your faction when you start a new game if you are unwilling to meet new people in the game and to sheep around with your existing friends even though you know that the rest of the faction probably hates you because they know you have manipulated the random faction system (Like my personal pet hate about our friend Wardondios)

IMO the game is much more fun/interesting when your friend is in another faction (Especially when you are winning :D )

Winning? Yep, that's us! :D
But that brings me to another thread...give me a sec.

I look back to the first time I played this game in game 2. I was with the Third Way. I honestly believed that I was mostly playing with people from Englan and the USA (I am from the USA). I figured that the game somehow knew where I was from and assigned me to a faction that were primarily allies. The Omans, on the other hand were evil, since they obviously had to be from Russia and China (otherwise why would they have that moslem symbol on their faction?). The Oman also had people with Russian names like Boris, Kristoff, hoa11 (I think). I thought they were all cheats and completely evil. Oh there was one guy I knew wasn't Russian, Silent Frog (who I hated most of all!) I figured he was a French man because he eventually became the Oman FC, and we heard some of his comms. I figured he joined the Russians because he hated Americans. It was completely racist on my part, and very foolish.
Then came game 3, and I joined the Navy. By a fluke I was assigned to work with the French, and the primary Frenchman I had to work with - Silent Frog. I decided to make the best of it, but little did I know that this would turn into one of the best friendships I would ever develop. My favorite time I have had in this game, have been my memories working on the Black Sheep Squadron in the Navy with Silent Frog. Then I left the Navy, and was randomly picked up by the Oman (of all factions!). I found that they were no different, if not better than the people I met in the Third Way in game 2. I feel very foolish for my thoughts back in game 2. The only thing I can think that I was right about is this: Boris really is evil! (Naw! just kidding.)

One does ones best.

Certainly not even slightly Russian, though - it may shock some ppl to hear it, but Boris is not my real name, nor do Half-Orcs actually exist, so far as I know.

I have always enjoyed how this i'net game attracts souls from all around the earth - apart from the disproportionate number of damn Yanks, of course! I really do wish something could be done about them...

I have numerous friends in EoC and my friends would be my first target and always will be.

If you went out paintballing in the countryside and your friends were on another team with other people you didn't know - WHO WOULD YOU GO FOR? Answer your friend - why cos it's all the more fun.

When I was FC in Game 1 I was good buddies with BFALCON who was the MCA FC. I didn't let him get away or anything instead I chased him all round the galaxy ready to make some SCRAP out of him (the bugger got away though =(

Similarly if Coolant or Scalpel and maybe others who I bonded with due to sense of humour, like Waldo$an. I would shoot their ships too. When I noticed Waldo had joined up again I taunted him about ten times to let him know I was there and when I see him his *** is grass. ;o)

ALL GOOD FUN - I shot a few Ex-TTW fighters down too. Why cos they were good pilots and I thought they would enjoy being shot by me. Similarly when Thirds killed me. AND BELIEVE ME A LOT DID I thought that was fantastic (apart from being a level 1 again) I sent a taunt of acknowledgement and carried on.

IT IS A GAME AFTER ALL AND I WILL SHOOT EVERYONE WHO GETS IN MY WAY FRIEND OR FOE.

A TRUE FRIEND WILL NOT HOLD A GRUDGE ON ANY SUBJECT. Like Rogerrabbit doesn't hold a grudge against BIG BEN. Rather Bigben than Shed7. Although I was on my way =)

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE - REMEMBER DON'T LOSE SIGHT OF THE PRINCIPLES OF THE GAME. ENJOY YOUR FLIPPIN SELVES

Sure, shooting friends is fun part of the game :yum:

I can not wait to blast Lord_Bane and Torgarth (M.C.A)

It was nice to be part of shooting Nick Shub [Navy] at the time..

And now I'm talking about friends for longer time.

Becouse this is my first game I can not honestly say how it feel if I get blasted, joined in another faction and have to shoot my old faction?

Well see about it at game 4

You cant sign up for a space ship and then complain if someone shoots at you!!! :D

We are all now professional gladiators, and it's just not the done thing to let the enemy off the hook just cos they're your mates.

Anyone from a previous faction is welcome to shoot at me, with no hard feelings :bounce:

*ducks for cover very quickly*

Well, when game 4 starts, it'll be a new game altogether. There will be no "old" factions in the beginning, only new enemies and allies :)
Ï'll be more than happy to wipe out all resistance that threatens my new faction, whatever that's going to be. Best part of this game is the intriguing diplomacy within a faction and between factions and that's the catch that keeps bringing me back time and again.

Like captcoyote, I myself put alot of prejudices in this game (being my first).. I'm also a loud mouth and would not be surprised if half my new faction hated me because of it

I just hope to have as much fun, with half as much fanaticism, next game.

see you on the battlefield.

Looking at the results something is wrong in my opinion.
Based on what I see on the in-game comms option 2 and 3 sould be the most voted, insteda we have option 1 and 4...
Either the sample is not well mixed (only all good mood players read the BB) or I was worried about something not existent... personal angry.

Marodeur
15-03-2002, 20:18
well, i started reading BB just now, too ...shame on me...
and i think that the majority of the players doesn`t read it.

There are some people I won't shoot and many that I will. My friends are always my main targets because many of them try to hit me. Then comes the "Target List" which covers all the guys who have ever treated me like a newbie, after the first game I played and all those who have been right royal pratts.

Then everyone else!

Of course I know that NOW, but it was a foolish misconception that I went by while playing game 2. I also have found out that Kristoff is not Russian either. However you should know that I am not a Yank. I identify Yanks as Americans who mostly come from the North East Coast of the USA. If anything my ancestors fought against the Yanks as Confederates (rebels; though I doubt that). I am Mexican-American, which means I am not welcome by either country. However I did go to college in Yankee country, so I am at least familiar with that culture.

Of course the fact that I am half coyote is not really true either (but I can dream can't I?) Though it is something that I have believe in my head since high school.

I know this is a bit of an odd thing to do, ;)

A simple set of policies I have for in game/ out of game friends and targeting

Same faction and out of game we are friends
If they land on my cross hairs and I have permission from FC to fire on that faction then out of game friends and former allies feel the heat of my guns.

There is only 1 exeption I will make to this, if they are from a faction I have just left and I have enough respect for that pilot they will get a short period of grace before I blow them out of the sky. Why do I do this? simple, if I have left the faction it means their HQ has gone down, so they are no longer a major threat to me, also they may well be about to ally with us so killing them at this point is a bad move

Of course if I see a pilot has left my faction and signed up with another by deleting their account they will make it straight onto my target list regardless of orders from anyone
