View Full Version : Shall the jump&piracy exploit used as "game feature" in g4 by all?

of course only if wingee doesn't fix this. The discussion here in MCA is kind of boiling, but g3 is near to an end. And if all pilots use this, it's no cheating anymore. I fear we can't count on our pilots not to use the exploit in future.

If your pilots can't follow rules then they'll just get deleted once wingee returns, as will any oman pilot who uses this exploit. Tell them that.

I have told them.. but i haven't any reply from wingee seen on BB (perhaps i missed them) nor have i get an answer on my mail. If some of the Omans continue to use the cheat, at least some of our pilots will use this too. When they use the cheat the game is over for me, like g1. But it could be that g4 will be started without fixing this, and _then_ i think it should be ok to use it, and only if wingee doesn't delete the pilots which use the cheat.

No way!

I want it fixed, sooner the better..

Unless someone [wingee] make a new specific button for it :bounce:

Nope, we should not allow that kind of functions, it's take the fun of this game and leave less room for tactical manuvers.

I think this say's it all guy's :)

Finally, I would like to add that other ways of abusing the game or site not directly covered by the rules, may also be reason enough for deleting of accounts. These rules are created to ensure that everyone can enjoy a fair game and for your protection, where the best player will come out on top, not the best cheater. If everyone sticks to the rules, everyone will benefit from it.

Hi - I've put a little block in to try and prevent it - let me know if it works!

thx wingee!

to legalize a bug to get rid of it??? are you kidding? this would ruin the game! no matter who and how many this bug use: DELETE `EM ALL! :dark:

I have just found out how to do it Wingee. I'll tell you and everyone else then it ain't a cheat no more. Still needs fixing though but like you say, you don't get paid to support and enhance so if you ge the time...

When you load the CAPS JUMP screen your code is checking to see if you have 5 moves available. After which point it does not check to see if you have the moves available.

Therefore all you have to do (can you tell I do this for a living???) is put a check in when pressing the JUMP button to see if there are sufficient moves. Then fail or pass.

This will be the answer. Because you can open two screens of Explorer and then have the caps jump working on one screen and do your moves on another and then go back to screen 1 and jump. I did it this turn (with piracy) to see what happens. IT STILL WORKS and that is at 10:30pm GMT.

(hey wingee - does that mean I get money for supporting the software ;o)

Tsk! You're not very good at it, then. The validation should be attached to the core function (as with firing, etc.) - not merely the front end which invokes it. Of course the button needs validation as well, but reliance on the interface leaves the back door open for this and similar exploits.

I'm sure Mr. W. knows this, which is why he's applied it to piracy, etc. But every function must be similarly treated - I haven't checked power-down, scrap collection, self-repair, etc.

Boris: unfortunately, that will put even more strain on the server... not much for each person, but multiply that by all the pilots that are active around T-20 and you've got even more strain that the server doesn't need... :(

well that's easily fixed... get a faster server.

and these calculations are nowhere near the calculations demanded on a server running a FPS like Counter-Strike, QuakeIII or RTCWolfenstein.

What kind of box is this game run on?

It's not easily fixed, unfortunetly. Infogrames wont put any more money into EoC-O, not even for a new box :)
And it's probably not the box anyway, probably the connection it's running on.
Let's all put in so it can afford dual OC48's :D

wingeee has fixed this, so no need for this thread/poll anymore. and just to make myself clear, i don't want to have this as feature in eoc, this was an afford to minimize damage done by cheaters which use the exploit, because if the bug is not fixed in g4 (haven't a chance to test it) and if some pilots are still using this exploit(in g4), they spoil the fun for everybody. If the exploit is commonly known by all factions and pilots and commonly used by them, the "original" cheaters didn't have an advantage from using this.

I suspect it's a cardboard box, powered by hard-running pixies, but I am notoriously cynical & have a nasty sense of humour. No doubt it it is a proper computer with many flashing lights & a go-faster stripe down the side...

Doesn't seem to have any effect - I'm still abusing the system in the same old way!

Yep, the "feature" is still there, just used it. Had to check if it works or not.

This would be a good time to hunt down this kind of "features" as the game is over now.

I'll try my best to break it to find bugs in it :)

Someone, TEST THIS:

When you are VERY VERY NEAR to achieve Rank 7 open the ship info into another window. Then AFTER you've achieved RANK 7 PRESS the POWERDOWN BUTTON.

I myself can't test this as I'm already Rank 8...

And please post the result here.

OK I think I must of missed the method of how this 'exploit' worked before I saw Sheds message. Dunno how this exploit was missed in the first place! Anyways, should be blocked now.

Maybe part of fixing this exploit should be done in a way that will prevent multiple main windows of the game from opening.

The way to do this is, similar to when you click on the button for the BB from the login screen. Open another window, but name the window and disable the toolbars and right-clicking on any screen. This will also help to kill the fast shooting exploit I know many people use. May also help with some of the server load during the critical times if someone can't send 5 shots down the pipe in 1 second.

I doubt if this can easily be done (though I'm not an i'net prog, so what do I know?)

Opening new windows is a basic feature of Microsoft(C) Internet Explorer (TM). Mr. Gates probably wouldn't let it be switchd off. Anyway, such usage should not be a problem, so long as validation is done at the proper points.

another way to "kill" the fast shooting exploit is allow us to download the videos so we don't have to wait for the lagboxodoom to send 'em to us. i believe that'd kill the T+5 lag a wee bit, which I know has killed many a pilot *raises hand*

I'm also gonna think my brain out and come up with some exploits to test and report before we go starting G4.
