View Full Version : EoCo Forum Rules for G4
ok, we've all been using the forum for 2 games now, I think it may be about time we had a few rules agreed upon... like exactly what way the "no outside comms" rule should be treated here in the forum, what should/shouldn't be posted about potential multies/exploits/general cheating and probly other stuff I can't think of atm....
so, I'll leave this thread for ppl to post their thoughts on if we need rules/what they should be etc...
discuss...

I think that any Suspected multiesshould be posted along with anyone who people think are cheating. it gives someone a chance to explane what they were doin if they read the BB that is But no details of how to cheat should be posted untill a fix has been comfermed.
1) Any jumping in/out or anything like that, even if they are for evidence, should be post on this forum at any time. The post will be removed or edited, and the poster given a warning.
2) um....give me a few...

I have used this forum to discuss things about the game, but never anything that could be actually used in the game. The closest I came to breaking the "no outside comms" rule was PMing HardEyes as to why the hell he kept kamikaziing my cruiser.
I guess I am too goody two shoes, huh?
Come to think of it, what the heck does having two shoes have to do with being good? Hmmmm.... This will require several hours of my time.

Understandable if the post is made within the same turns as the jumps.. completely moronic otherwise.
This isn't a dictatorship where people are put to death for breaking the rules, this is a game where people have fun.
Why must this game be so different from every other internet multiplayer game (don't even bring up TVS) in that we can't discuss strategies in out of game communications?
If the in game comms worked better, maybe it'd be understandable. And since this game is pretty much a hobby for the creator, the comms aren't bad.. but on the other hand, they're deplorable.
I have come to relish many of the aspects of this game, with the exception of two things. The comm system, and the crudiness of the server.
I refuse to live by rules which hinder me in my pursuit of entertainment. Delete me if you will.. but if I enjoy the game enough, I'll simply make a new account and play anonymously using the same exact tactics I currently employ.

Hello everybody,
I do agree with the rules 'no outside comms' like using ICQ or AIM, anything else like that, but, to my mind, you can't avoid friends talking each over about plans while they are at work or at school!
I do agree that is not fair, we are 7 here in the same town, I've got 5 friends in my clan 1 in another clan and another who deleted his account to joined us, NEVER, I said NEVER, we ask them NOR they ask us anything about other's plans!!
It's just talking about 'doesn t hurt me' when he fired at me or some slang and swear language that we can't use on the comms... maybe where we are planing to head in, or playing in the same computer (login-logout-login-logout ans so on) because they are drinking at home!
Cheaters build their defense on that point, we can't control everything about the accounts! :madred:
And even if we check IP adress, it's not a reliable thing, because our School network is behind a proxy-server!
I haven't got any solution for that, I just want to say that it is hard to find a cheater (to find a CLEVER cheater!) ;)

To post, or not to post, that is the question
Personally myself, I don't think any in game act, where the consequences of open forum discussion, could affect the out come of the game however slightly, should be mentioned on the forum until after the game is over.
So I would say no, to the posting of logs at any point during the game.
No to the naming of apparent 'cheater/s' or the 'cheat/s' they have supposedly used. ( by all means report them to Wingee
if you feel it appropriate).
I don't see any reason's why, failed attempts and stategies can't be disscussed, after all they failed, and it would be nice to know why?
Anybody else any idea's

Well I'd say that posting logs as evidence is not bad think.. but it should done about 10-15 turns later when those don't affect any more in game play and it not nessesary to post every jumping out and jumping in logs.
Problem is that more you delay turns showing evidence.. more difficult it is to analyse later that is someone cheating or not.
And if there is no cheaters anymore, we don't have to even talk these kind of things.
cheaters/multies/exploits will occur, they always do...
there does have to be some way for ppl to post their concerns/evidence where it can be examined quickly and acted upon by the "relevant authorities" - otherwise players just get miffed when it appears nothing is being done...
edit: but not in full view of everyone.
I have an idea, but i'll have to talk to someone(s) about it first...
1) I do hope the fire&jump anomaly is reloved before the next game - I don't think I could stand the comms.
2) We should continue to post examples of "cheating" if we encounter them. "Name & Shame" or "Public Accusation & Opportunity to Defend" are good methods of self-regulation.
3) The "Histories" of the game have been unfulfilled of their potential - current events have always overtaken the story-telling.
Perhaps we should have a narrative account contemporary with the game? A 24-hour delay should be sufficient to avoid compromising current operations.
B.
P.S. Doncha think Kudos really is pretty ugly, though? We're talking stomach-unsettling here, let's be honest...
1) agreed. and all exploits should be fixed asap in future (dunno if this is possible given the games owners/coders etc situation)
2) Personally, I agee with this, tho the Players will have the final say in a Poll or something I think. But there would have to be rules stating exactly what can be said, and what is going too far and either shouldn't be posted or must be deleted asap... a tough one to work out, often ppl are accused but are innocent - every situation is different.
3) Yes, and it's a damn shame :/
P.S. I ain't gonna let this thread spam up... so take it outside Putrefying One...

I think someone should be chosen to be the one to first varify the complaint that someone has cheated and secondly be the only person to contact the authority on the matter . I'm sure our resident authority is tired of an over the quota mail box filled with complaints from every gamer who suspects another of some sort of foul play.
However remember the Lag Monster doesn't know a cheater from a hole in the fabric of space and time. It attacks us all...... :dark:
