Back in the UK on Wed, hopefully I'll be back on the board before then ;)

Hush your wisht, the pair of you..kids :rollani:

Germans and Scandinavians (except the Finns) share the same ancestors, and were more or less the same people as little as 1500 years ago - they still shared a mutually intelligible language for quite a long time. if you read Beowulf, the saxon epic poem, they are always banging on about the Swedes and the Danes as if they were just another German tribe.

Anyway :confblue:

Thor used to beat up the Giant's not the people he was a protector of the gods and humanity after all.

There is another link between Thor and Diablo besides the hammer. I'm not going to relate the whole story here, don't worry, but in one tale Thor's hammer is stolen by one of the giants, who demands marriage to the beautiful goddess Freya as the ransom.

Freya refuses to help get Thor out of trouble, and Thor himself is forced to devise a plan which involves dressing up as a woman, in an attempt to pass himself off as Freya (Loki had to dress up as his lady's maid)... :wierdblu:

Now I'm not going to suggest that Di is a habitual cross-dresser, but he has been known to on at least one occasion – and we have the photographs to prove it! :grntngue:

Discover your personal future for the next year!
A PROFESSIONAL ASTROLOGER reveals your FUTURE ... TOTALLY FREE!
Everything about your love-life, career, family, friends, chance and fortune for the rest of 2002!

What is the point? All you have to do is wait! Frankly I find the idea that your future is predestined to be rather depressing. It may be an illusion, but I like to believe I have a degree of free-will.

The weird thing is, people who do believe in divination always pick and choose anyway. If the prediction is that they're going to to be killed in a plane crash on a particular day they'll avoid taking that flight... which rather undermines the idea of their future having been accurately foreseen. The diviner will not bother to say "You didn't get killed in a plane crash on such-and-such a day", with the result that the person will take the flight, but will not die because otherwise the diviner would have warned them... erm... :bigeye:

No one seems to think these things through... :confblue:

I sometimes feel like saying; well, if all this is true, why not pay a diviner to tell you everything you will do in your life. It would save you all that tricky decision-making if you already know what you're going to do.

I'd go on, but I see that it is said I won't, so I'd better not, or who knows what might happen.

One other absurdity it highlights is that there are different types of horoscope – some because they divide the'Twelve Houses' (the signs of the zodiac) in different ways, some because they originate in different countries (eg China).

I've seen people, in all seriousness, offer to tell your future using any of several different horoscope methods – so you can choose the future you like best, presumably!

Is it just me, or does that sound as if some people are REALLY suggestible?

On top of all that, the system most commonly used in the west is completely wrong even by its own definition. Thanks to the precession of the equinoxes (a gradual shift in the earth's axis) the star signs are all now incorrect. According to tradition, my birthday (May 14) should make me a Taurus. But on this date the sun is in fact in Aries! As most astrologers don't know anything about the stars they are unaware of this.

When one astrologer was questioned on this he said "Ah, yes, but astrology doesn't have anything to do with the stars – the use of the names of the constellations is pure coincidence."

Hmm... :rollani:

By other side, one of God's abilities is total knowledge of past, present and future, and knowing future forces predestination of man. Think about it. Quite! Like with horoscopes, people want to have their cake and eat it too.

They like the Bible to contain infallible prophesies... yet they want free will too.

One of the most contentious arguments in this area is that of Judas Iscariot. If it was part of God's Plan that he should betray Jesus, then he could hardly be called a traitor, as he was acting according to God's wishes. Since this necessarily means he had no free will, it was rather hard on him to say the least.

The same applies in other cases, but this is the most often used argument. As WingCommander says, if God has it all planned out, what's the point?

WingCommander
23-06-2002, 18:58
Minos, you have less future as horoscope reader than France in the World Cup....

Diablo is a natural leader that makes people to follw him? :lolblue:
Even more:
"....want everything around you to match your own gentle manner and romantic spirit...." :lolblue:
"...Your need for variety in your romantic relationships makes it hard for you to focus your attention on one partner. You prefer parties, cruises, or other gatherings that offer you opportunities to meet like-minded adventurers..." only truth I have found so far... but you also say:
"enjoy a healthy and happy life with good friends, good habits, and a good marriage" GOOD MARRIAGE? :lolblue: :lolblue: :lolblue: ..... sorry......... but this is just a bunch of contradictions itself....

Minos
23-06-2002, 19:04
Exactly... that was why I was making fun of horoscopes...

The best thing is, this was about the fifth one I tried (being shareware ones, the others had awkward limitations on them that stopped me from using them properly). Others would give different results... and as you say, contain contradictions even within themselves.

This is entirely typical of horoscopes.

It's the old matter of people seeing only what they want to see... :bigeye:

The best thing is, this was about the fifth one I tried (being shareware ones, the others had awkward limitations on them that stopped me from using them properly). Others would give different results... and as you say, contain contradictions even within themselves.

It's the old matter of people seeing what they want to see... :bigeye:

Oh! make mine then! I want to have REAL laughts!!

It have just come to mi mind something I read some long time ago...

I was just walking by the street when the typical sectareal group stoped me and gave one of their propaganda papers. I would normally throw it to the first dustbin I see, but unfornately there was not a close one, so I bothered to read it. The title was "THE DEMON IS THE OWNER OF OUR WORLD". Basically, the main argument for that was that how could it be possible that The Demon offered the world to Jesus if The Demon was not the real owner of it?... sometimes I think if these people doesn't know the word "lie", specially talking about the supreme evil being...

Anyway, back to the existencialism and the freedom controversial with God, I just find funny when I read any way to prove God existence by reason and scientifical methods... I consider myself an almost nihilistic entity... and I said almost becose in one of the very little things I do believe is in man's freedom as man's right and capability of choosing and face consecuences of his choices.

Here you go:

http://www.cjnoyessw.com/

The one I used was an old one from some years back, for Windows 3.1, and is rather awkward to use (as well as having a few bugs). Hopefully he's updated it by now... anyway, try downloading it and giving it a try.

There are a lot of shareware horoscope programs around – try searching on one of the shareware sites like http://download.cnet.com (just type 'horoscope' in the search box).

Because the downloads tend to be around the 5-6MB range they were too large for me to try just this afternoon – with my modem they'd have taken about half an hour each. Luckily I'd still got some zipped ones archived on a CDR; this is why the version I used was such an old one. I got it (along with some others) at a time when a friend who believes in astrology wanted me to cast horoscopes for her children.

Like WingCommander says, they're absurdly full of contradictions, but they're also irresistible for a laugh – especially the bits about sex.

The thing to do is to try several and pick the one you like best!

Yeah, that quote was from the game. The first one. The one that was ridiculously hard.

Minos
28-06-2002, 13:53
Yes, it certainly was! :wierdblu:

The puzzles were not so much hard as hopelessly convoluted or even illogical – it was a bit like the riddle game from The Hobbit, where Bilbo, failing to think up a proper riddle in his panic, asks "What have I got in my pocket?" I was in total agreement with Gollum on that one – "Not fair!"

Though I've only just started it, I must say that the game Discworld Noir seems to be more reasonable. I was so put off by the first game I never even tried Discworld 2.
