Freelancer for sure... and perhaps one or two more, but not from the above list. Neverwinter Nights has good chances, but not sure

i shall hold a solemn candlelight vigil each and every night until Deus Ex II comes out. It is the be-all end-all of my gaming existence. It shall be a 10 months (give or take) well spent.

Its Got to be Mafia have you seen the Grafix on it and the free roming stuf i have read it look's amazing. Also there is a game called Republic - The Revolution ETA : Q4-2002 That looks real Good as well.

Republic - The Revolution

"You’re a powerful faction leader and you must oust the President of the Republic... by any means."
It’s the 1990s and the mighty Soviet Union has just broken up. Dozens of autonomous countries spring from the crumbling remnants. It is into one of these, the Republic of Novistrana, that you enter the fray as a small time faction leader.

We are recreating the whole of Novistrana in its full glory in totally freeform 3D. This will give the game a cinematic quality the likes of which have never been experienced before. 50 towns and cities all rendered down to an incredible level of detail.

Additionally, populating the country will be a million living breathing citizens. Every one will be totally unique, each with their own daily routines, ethnic backgrounds, religious beliefs and political leanings.

Starting with a single loyal supporter, a tiny secret HQ and a very small base of local support, you must build up a nationwide faction powerful enough to oust the President and rule the Republic of Novistrana.

Up to 16 other factions (human or computer controlled) will be doing everything in their power to stop you and seize control for themselves. And of course, most formidable of all is the President as he’ll go to any lengths necessary to hold onto power. Persuade, hire and recruit all manner of specialist characters to your cause or use less ethical methods such as brainwashing or blackmailing to achieve your aims. These characters range from army generals to TV filmstars to archbishops.

Players may follow five different strands of play, allowing them to play as poiticians, businessmen, criminals, religious leaders or generals. Behave as ruthlessly or as compassionately as you want. The choice is yours, but beware, as every decision has consequences.

Influence the general populace through your key supporters by using them to instigate actions. Thousands of exciting and diverse actions to order and orchestrate from vast rallies and riots to rigging football matches to secret police ‘hits’ to broadcasting news propaganda.

Sounds Amazing to me and the Grafix on pics i've seen are grate

Well, I would like to buy Unreal Tournament 2003 as I did with the prevoius one as well as I did with Duke Nukem 3D and Duke Nukem 3D Nuclear Winter , but my current computer is too slow for running them so my computer must go first than the games you know...

However, as I did with FreeSpace 2 and I-War, I will buy FreeLancer with no hope that it will run on my computer... but it will became then the reason for upgrading it...

I'm still waiting for Thief 3 to come out – there's no official release date that I know of, but it's said to be some time this summer. I found this write-up, which sounds promising:

While skulking around in the shadows, we've uncovered this from Eidos Interactive: "In Thief 3, [players will] take a look at the inner workings of the enigmatic, secretive Keeper organization. Thanks to the Unreal engine, Thief 3 will easily be able to handle over 100 times the polygon count of Thief and Thief II. And after extensive engine enhancements, the game will have the same dark, gritty feel as the original games."I hope so. While Thief and Thief 2 had great good storylines and great gameplay, their graphics were a bit disapointing.

Best strategy games of all time Homeworld, Starcraft, Warcraft II, And C&C. there is an element of strategy to these games, the only strategy in Warcraft III is to get a Hero with a better level than everyone else.

Best? I would vote for Battle Isle, UFO/X-COM, Age of Wonders ( I / II ), Civilization and Alpha Centauri

Yeah, but games like that ARE the best games ever. For several reasons.

1) They were bloody rock hard (and you loved it)

2) The graphics were non-existent (and you loved it)

3) They were cheap (and you loved it)

About homeworld 2 I do not know in which stage of development is now, but heagemonia is going to be released soon and is a reaaly good game in the same style as homeworld

In response to the original topic, sadly enough there aren't any games coming out any time soon that I would want to pick up.

This isn't saying that there aren't any good games out there but there's nothing that seem to fit my person preferance.

However come this fall, there are tons of titles I'm looking forward to from Battlefeild 1942, to MOH Team Assult to Age of Mythology, so I probally won't be playing any new games for a while :(

Only 'a bit'?

Has anyone here read the short story Threesie? Excellent black humour about a man who sells his soul for three wishes, but with a superbly funny twist in ending – must see if I can find it.

Anyway, the reason I mention it is because of 'the agonies of the de-souling process' which feature in it. But I guess in Whitey's case it's the reverse – he's already lost his soul to the forum. :eekblue:

Does he trust Diablo to return him to his former self? Don't sign anything, Whitey – particularly not if he asks you to do so in your own blood...

2potscreama
15-07-2002, 15:39
Authors and story tellers always make out that there's a catch with the whole 3 wishes thing. It's like narrators fix the plot so that wishes only get granted to people who are thick as two short planks, who are bound to wish for ridiculous stuff and end up paying for it in the end.

If you invest just a little thought and common sense into the whole idea of wishes, it becomes little more than a farcial way to screw over the demon/fairy/genie/devil etc.

Don't teach your grandmother how to such eggs, my lad! I've been reading folktales since before you were born...

Generally speaking, tales of this type fall into two categories:

1) Cautionary or moralistic tales in which someone greedy (and usually stupid) comes to a Bad End. Such stories often have two characters, such as the beautiful and good daughter and the ugly and lazy one. Guess which one comes out best...

2) Tales in which the Devil (or some other supernatural being) is caught out either by a sharp-witted or just plain lucky individual. These are usually simply humorous – to make the listener feel better; he or she is even cleverer than the Devil! There are a lot of local folktales of this type, often accounting for natural features (such as the Wrekin in Shropshire) or artificial but old ones, like the various Devil's Dikes, Devil's Bridges and so on. There is also the well-known story of St Dunstan and the Devil, in which the Devil takes the form of a beautiful woman in order to seduce St Dunstan, with rather painful consequences.

In Threesie (which is a modern story – written in 1958) the twist is that the person concerned is far too clever for his own good. It appears in the anthology Deals with the Devil (1959); the stories in here are relatively recent and sophisticated, unlike the more traditional tales I was alluding to above.

*sings*

Halfway up the Wrekin with an empty flask of tea,
a fog descends and takes away my visibility.
Yet in this Helen Keller state I'd still quite like to know:
Why is Rod Hull alive and getting paid as well?

*stop singing*

You get 3 points for naming the band, and 1 point for naming the track.

You probably deserve a bonus point if you know who Helen Keller is, too...

Aaaah! As surfing the net would be unfair, it sounds like I have to give up :frownblu: How frustrating!

You can try using the 'Net if you want, but I think you'll still find it hard to find out who the band is.

nope!

Look for 'Helen Keller' and 'Rod Hull' and HMHB comes up on the first (and only) google page...

I've attached Threesie as a zipped Word document; I scanned it and OCR'd it, so there are probably a few minor errors, but nothing of consequence. Anyone with a taste for black humour and who likes a good read should download it and give it a try. It has the official Minos stamp of approval on it!

Draw the curtains, throw a heap of screaming mortal souls onto the fire, settle down and enjoy...
