Unreal2 freezing

hi.Hope someone can help,Trying to get unreal2 running,but the damn thing keeps freezing onthe introductory video.My system as follows
AOPEN AK79D-1394,ATHLON 2600, GFORCE2 GRAPHICS(which is one of the specs given in the manual)1gb mem,XP SERVICE PACK 1,NFORCE ON BOARD SOUND.Latest drivers installed exept for ms patch327979 which refuses to install(this is the so called fix for the above problem).Anyone had the same.This is driving me to abandon games as ****nothing works on xp

Why does this patch refuse to work

have you tried re-downlaoding the patch from windwos update, check out the us atari formus, they seem to be more traffic / ideas over ther the link to the us atariforums unreal 2 forums is

in the search box add patch 327979
On the page tha comes up click on the link to Windows xp patch: game stops responding

Tried downloading the patch from the unreal site, installs but no futher luck.Thanks for replying. Ian

have you tried updating your drivers
Have you tried uninstallnig the game, rebooting the machine & reinstalling the game

Are there any errors on the hard disk

Unrea2 AGAIN! thanks for the reply,yes i have tried neumerous times.:mad: But the game will run on my spare 850Mz 98 machine with force2mx with dx8 abiet jerky.but not with dx9.I have changed over graphic cards with their respective drivers with no luck.xp will not accept dx8.Anybody wana buy unreal2?I give up!!!!!!!!!!

Works fine on win2000 Pro - with DX9 and geforce 2. Looks like it really is XP that's the problem. Complete pain in the backside that OS:rolleyesa Could you get win2000? I'm pretty sure MS licences cover any previous version of the OS, as long as your licence is for the latest product (if you are using XP Home, you would need to pay extra - sorry!) Even windows Me might be an option - that will run DX9 and a host of more modern features that w98 won't support, or needs drivers for. hope this helps:tup:
