Wait for the full game to come out, see how it runs and then see if you need to upgrade.....

If anything it will be your graphics card.........:frownblue

Fluxx

Should be plenty m8........

I'd still wait for the game though..........:lightbulb

These upgrades will make everything run much smoother though......:D

Ant

which card is better:

Evesham Radeon 9600 Pro 256MB AGP

or

GeForce FX 5600XT 256MB DDR AGP DVI TV-out

Fluxx

I think it all comes down to personal taste.......Ive always been an Nvidia man and have never used ati's stuff.

Both cards get (got?) good reviews so it could be down to a question of price/ bundle (games etc)......:lightbulb

For every Geforce fan there a Radeon fan so dont be surprised to hear both sides of the story.......:weirdblue

Ant
05-10-2004, 21:19
lol
yeah same ive always had nvidia cards but what card do u have at the moment?:rolleyesa

Fluxx
05-10-2004, 21:59
6800 series.........very nice......VERY expensive....:frownblue

Depends how much you want to spend.........:weirdblue

Ant
05-10-2004, 22:23
yeah i was thinking of getting the
GeForce 6800 128MB DDR AGP for £169.99
:lightbulb
but the theres the
GeForce 6800 GT 256MB DDR AGP for £279.99

This is getting me so strested that i can't think
:frownblue

i need something that last so i don't go through this again lol
if only i got a better video card to start with:weirdblue
mine runs so slowly on game like RCT3 & R:TW

Ant
06-10-2004, 00:14
I found a video card which im going to buy but i need one more thing if i get this card:

http://www.microlandtechnology.com/products.asp?partno=VC8425

would it be good enougth to run RCT3 on the highest settings smoothly? :rolleyesa

Fluxx
06-10-2004, 08:21
It depends on what you consider to be the highest settings.:frownblue

What resolution do you intend to run it at?
(This can have a big impact on the games performance)

You could quite possibly notice a big improvement with a 128meg card

Thes games requirements state......

Video:Any ATI Radeon™ or GeForce™ 2 with 32MB or higher; or other video card with 32MB and hardware T&L (ATI Radeon™ 64 MB SDR or GeForce™ 2 Pro or other video card with 64 MB or more memory and hardware T&L recommended)*

To be honest, nobody knows until the game comes out, although I see no reason why the card you have picked shouldnt run it nicely....

Its all a question of budget.......:frownblue

You have a speedy CPU, enough memory........let me point you at this from the US forum.......

Yes I get water reflections, and I see everything but when I move around the game its a little sluggish and also my game seems to pause for like 0.01 secs every 1 mins I play.. I own a p4 1.4 gig and 512 of megs of memory wonder why so sluggish?? My video card is 512mb on board. Hmm I wonder!!

N1Hawk

P.S. Just might be the demo!!

Ignore what he says about the memory :rolleyesa

Hes got an FX 5600, the same amount of memory as you, but his CPU's half the speed........I dont think you will get the pause problem....

Its a tough choice.........:frownblue

Let me know what you decide.......

My 9800 PRO, doesn't run the demo very well if I set every graphics detail to the highest, and that's a better chip than the 5700. The graphics options are made so that everyone can get something for their cards. Do you need to run the game with every detail on high?

Apart from that I think 5200 -> 5700 is a somewhat weak upgrade, you'll not get a big improvement, but it'll cost you a good deal of money anyway.

6800 is a lot better than both, and it's not very expensive, for a bit lower price you could get a 5900XT, og a 9800 PRO.

6800 is better but its in a whole different price range......:frownblue

The 5900XT is a good card (as is the 9800) but its a fair bit more expensive thab the 5700.......:weirdblue

Its all a question of budget....not everyone can justify spending £100-400 on a graphics card.......:eekblue:

As to your 9800 PRO not running the demo well, it could be down to it only being a demo......it hasnt been optimised......yet:tup:

It also depends on the rest of your system......:biggringr

Mine is a bit worse than that even with little detail on the coaster can jerks every where and it ruins the game :(

How about

this (http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=132710)

You can get them cheaper if you shop around........and remeber you need a spare molex connecter coming off your psu to power it........

(Its what I'd buy......... ....if I had £200 spare......:frownblue )

Just found this (http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?rb=2222729742&action=c2hvd3N1YmNhdGVnb3J5X3BhZ2U=&subcat_uid=670)

Here

Ant
09-10-2004, 12:55
so for the GeForce 6800 128MB DDR AGP i am going to buy:

Akasa Paxpower Ultra Quiet 460w ATX2.0 PSU (blue LED)

but all i need to know is wat cables do i need to use and won't it blow my mother bord if i get it wrong:(

Fluxx
09-10-2004, 13:08
As long as you are careful putting the card and PSU in you shouldnt blow your motherboard.

Your PC looks heavily modded already, so I assume you know what you are doing......:weirdblue

All the cables you need should come with the PSU and the Geforce card....

Just make sure you are grounded when you change the components, to avoid any static discharge........:confusedb . You can get anti-static wristbands that ground you, but I dont know where from......maybe a local computer shop?

Take your time when you do it and be gentle........

Ant
09-10-2004, 14:09
lol okay i havn't done that much modding before just enough to know my way around but i've never changed PSU thats why im worried lol

thanks for all your help

I just found the NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra made by sparkle selling for £145 VAT inc. on http://www.pcupgrade.co.uk its so cheap i don't know if i can trust it lol:lightbulb
I looked on the sparkle home page and it looks like the same card

Fluxx
10-10-2004, 12:52
Id be very surprised if that wasnt a misprint.........:eekblue:  :lightbulb

Ant
10-10-2004, 14:37
do u think i should order it:confused:

Fluxx
10-10-2004, 19:31
I've just been there and it seems to have disappeared........

Maybe they realised their mistake.......:frownblue

I've noticed that when you put one in your cart it add a whole system to your order......

If it was me I'd stick to your original plan.........

Ant
10-10-2004, 20:33
yeah seems to have gone but now at the moment the site i was going to buy them from (http://www.lowestonweb.com/) seems to have gone down:confused:

and lol wouldn't that be funny if some one ordered it for that u would have saved almost £250

Fluxx
10-10-2004, 21:52
I think it was just a misprint.........:weirdblue

Nice thought though.........:bounce:

(I'd have been tempted myself at that price.......:D )

Ant
20-10-2004, 22:41
Dam there taking a long time to send it lol first the PSU was out of stock then when it was in stock the didn't send it because the graphics card was out of stock lol seems the earlest ill get it is the 31st :frownblue

Any way i overclocked my current grafics card to the best stable setting ang it still runs bad on RCT3 unless i over clocked it to an unstable setting but then it ran like a dream exept for the distortions lol and it scored 256 on 3D mark 05 (overclocked stable) and the new card is ment to score 9800 on 3d mark 03 (not overclocked) lol:tup:
I can't wait shame about the wait:confusedb

Geforce 1
Geforce 2
Geforce 3
Geforce 4
Geforce FX (5 series)
Geforce 6 (Geforce 6800 series)

For some reason they have dropped the 'FX' bit........:weirdblue

im currently using a 9600Xt and ive had no problem running the demo on 1280 1024 with everything set to maximum, when i first built this system, i didnt bother with getting a top of the line graphics card, as i wasnt using the resolution for it :).

next time i plan to get one of the next generation ati/nvidia cards to run on a higher resolution display.

and ive been an ati fan for a long while now.

always good to have a gig of ram :)

maybe i was a little excessive there; the only think limiting me with this computer is the graphics card- as i said before its not bad.

... then again i do plan to play hl2 and doom :), and run numerours programs at the same time, photoshop etc. i find out im using about 500 of it regulary :/

cant wait for this game on friday, demo had been enjoyable

I am running it on 1.6gb processor and 512 ram. I have a Radeon 7000
graphics so nothing special there and the game runs fine. It is a little
bit sticky on the graphics but more than liveable. I am not getting any
crashing issues either (probably shouldn't have put that).

So I would definately wait until running the full game before spending a fortune upgrading.

AMD Athlon XP 1700+
512mb RAM
GeForce 4 Ti4200 128mb
LiteOn DVD Burner
20GB Hard Drive
SpinPoint V40 80GB Hard Drive
Lacie USB External 120GB Hard Drive
Motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-7DXR+
Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 Digital
Win XP Pro SP1 (on one partition) SP2 is pants
Win 98se (on another partition)
Samsung SyncMaster 15GLi Monitor

and you can see from my Runs Like A Dog thread that even though my system can run Far Cry, smoothly. When I build my own custom parks in RCT3 it runs like a dog once several runs are up and running.
