game crashing to desktop every two minutes

I played the first level and everything went fine there - but now after playing about 30 minutes into the second level the game crashes to the desktop. I made a save about two minutes before the crash - sometimes it takes a minute or two but the game crashes everytime.

I also tried to restart the level - same result. After a while the game just crashes to the desktop.

I also experimented with the gfx settings - setting em on the lowest detail and such - no luck.

My system spec:

AMD XP 2800+
Mainboard with Nforce 2 Chipset
Ati Radeon 9800 Pro
Soundblaster Audigy

Are all your drivers up to date?

yep, the drivers are up to date.

I know that lots of peeps have the "crash to desktop"-problem. What puzzles me though is that my crash occures about every two minutes (and only in a certain level so far)

I am having exactally the same problem, downloaded the lastest drivers for our graphics card but still no joy!!!! :madred: :cry:

My brother had the exact same problem.

I fixed it by doing the following:

1) Update his graphics drivers and reboot
2) Go into the ATi settings (right click desktop, properties, settings, advanced, troubleshoot.
3) Turn down harware accelleration and disable write combining.
4) Reboot
5) Run the game and enjoy!

Why not try closing all the background processes?

In WinXP, kill everything but these:

taskmgr.exe
explorer.exe
svchost.exe (there's loads, don't kill any)
cisvc.exe
lsass.exe
csrss.exe
smss.exe
winlogon.exe
services.exe

If you get an error like "Access Denied", it's probably because you're not a system admin or the software is protecting itself.
ZoneAlarm Pro (zapro.exe) and Kaspersky Anti-Virus Monitor (kavmon.exe) do it, you just have to close them via the icon in the system tray or from within the program.
