i just downloaded the v1.2 demo and still get the same trouble with the game launching fine then crashing 2 minutes into it.

i am thinking of disabling my NFORCE 2 embedded sound and then sticking in my old soundlaster ill let everyone know how it goes

P.S. the reason i am doing this is that i have had trouble before with the embedded audio and also because quite a few people who have problems use either the NFORCE2 or some other embedded card.

so far everything seems good

i loaded the optimal settings in my bios and then turned off the AC'97 audio card and i just managed to play thedemo for 20 minutes without trouble.

i have an athlonxp 3200+ which was going at 60 c when i booted my system before playing i turned my thermaltake volcano fan on full maybe that had something to do with it. right now my cpu temp is over 70c which im not quite sure is healthy but can someone tell me if im wrong ive seen it rocket over 120c but my system remains fine. some websites say that 85c is critical for the barton core.

i need help on this i will try to run the game on the minumum rpm and see if it crashes then.

well my cpu temp is 120 right now and im runnign the game (retail) for 20 minutes now without problems so i safely assume that it was the sound card.

i have the XFX mach4 board with the nforce 2 chipset

i am also running 5 bittorent clients in the back and winamp playing internet radio

i forgot to mention that im playing on extreme level graphics just now so there you go people i found my problem for those without the luxury of a different sound card all i can say is that go buy yourself a soundblaster for 10 pounds i mean come on people its the same quality as your nforce2 and its far more stable.

i am running the default drivers for the soundblaster that windows installed

hope this thread helps someone

120 degrees seems a bit harsh though! I have my athlons set to cut out at 75 degrees(they can easily take 85-90, but they will feel the stress eventually) I would not run an Athlon at 90 degrees for any length of time - and 120 seems suicidal.

Do you have a decent fan on the CPU, or just the retail version? Are your fans on the right way?!

i have the volcano 9 fan running at minumum and it only shoots to 110+c when i play otherwise it runs atr 77c

yeah ive got the cut off bit over where it says what socket this is and i am using the paste that came with the fan.

ive been running my system like this for over a month and nothing seems to bother me

i am using MBM5 to view the temp

and also can it be because i have no case fans?

i mean i was running doom3 on high graphics on this system that isnt supposed to fully run medium and the cpu still managed things fine

An Athlon 3200 is rated at 85 degrees C - that means it probably has a margin of error allowing SHORT burts up to 100 degrees. 120 will fry it! Is it massively overclocked? Did you fit the fan on the right way round?? And I would definitely put a case fan in there - a 3200 is a whole heap of processor!:eekblue:

well the fan is the right way round as the cut out on the heatgrill is over the socket name

well for some reason it just jumps to 110 - 115 when i run games or cpu intensive things otherwise its steady at 73

not overcloacked whatsoever its steady on teh 400fsb

and im on my way to buy 4 case fans anyone know any good quiet once?

i jsut turned up my volcano 9 to 5300rpm and the cpu is still not going lower than 70 im going to have a look at the fangrill to see if everything is ok.

Below 85 is within tolerable limits -70 is fine. I don't have any particular favourites as far as case fans. I buy everything on ebuyer -I read the reviews from other buyers first, so I buy the best reviewed whatever-it -is -I -need at the time -but 120 is definitely wrong pal!!!
has the mobo started to ooze out the cracks in the case!

well i seem to have my system under control now

i went to the local computer shop and bought myself case fans now the case temp has gone from 50c to 15c

i then asked the guy what could be wrong and was told i had too much thermo paste on cpu(i put in the whole packet that came with the fan) cleaned that out and now my cpu runs under 70c on min rpm of the fan it only shoots up to 120c for a sec when loading something really cpu intensive but then it jsut goes down to 80c or 85cish

Well here is the end of the story because my cpu was overheating so much i decided to look into my fan and i find that it not even suited for a 2700+

so i was sold a 3200+ athlon xp with a fan taht wont do a good job with the 2700+

man is the shop going to get it tomorrow
