Hi! I have the same problem! The exact same message comes up when I'm trying to install! I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the problem. But during the installation wizard, everything thats supposed to say "RollerCoaster Tycoon 3" says "RollerCoaster Tycoon?3" with the extra "?".

If someone know the fix then please let me know! Will be most grateful!! I'm really eager to play the game and the helpline is not open til 4th January 2005!!!

ok two things i can think of,

1. get rid of the ?, it is supposed to be an R in a circle (registered trademark symbol). then try.

2. disable antivirus programs as they can conflict.

I just tried disabling the anti-virus software and that didn't make any difference to the error.

I would really like to get rid of the "?" but just don't know how. I suspect it might be something to do with the language settings but can't figure out what the problem is.

Any more help would be appreciated! Cheers!!

Getting rid of the "?" when you are selecting the directory does not work and the error will still occur. However, after a few minutes of looking around I have found the solution to this problem and have finally managed to install the game.

This problem is indeed as I suspected and is to do with the language settings on Windows XP. If you are using multiple language like myself (Chinese) then this problem may occur. This is why the trademark symbol becomes a "?" as its not decoded properly. Take the following steps to fix this problem.

1.) Click "Start" and select "Control Panel".
2.) Open "Regional and Language Options".
3.) Select the "Advanced" tab at the top.
4.) In the "Language for non-Unicode Programs" selection, choose "English (United Kingdom)".
5.) Click on Apply and the system will require a reboot.

After the reboot, install the game as instructed and you should notice that the trademark sign is now appearing correctly. The installation should now be error free.

After the installation, just click and enjoy the game!

Hope the above information will help those of you who suffer from the problem!
