Why the Sims2 should not meet Roller Coaster Tycoon 3.

Here is a little anecdote on why (imho) the Sims2 should not be incorporated into RCT3.

Meet John Smith, he is a SIM from the Sims2. John has decided to visit my theme park for the day. I have to however still control John as he does not think much for himself.

So, here goes… (this is a long read but I hope well worth it)

John is spawned at the ‘park injection point’.
Click on park entrance and tell John to “pay entrance fee”. -- John does this no problem. -- John stands around holding up the other peeps wanting to come into the park. (Let’s assume that we have peep collision detection for this expansion)
Click on the best rollercoaster at the back of your park (‘Rollercoaster 1’) to have John “Run Here” – (this is what you do at a theme park, right? Get in the queue early).
John starts of at a fast run, he feels better as he passes some nice scenery in your park.
Suddenly, John stops and starts weeding one of your flower beds along the path. NOOO! You frantically click “Run Here” on ‘rollercoaster 1’, as John weeds away. He stops and you scream “go to the coaster you #%^&”.

John has another idea, he feels lonely and needs someone to talk to. Resigned, you click on ‘information kiosk 1’ – 25 squares back – and tell John to “talk to”
John ambles back to ‘information kiosk 1’ – he is now very un-social.

At ‘information kiosk 1’ you “ask for park map” – You “buy Park Map” John Smith feels better. For Good measure you “hug" 'vendor1543' in ‘information kiosk 1’ Social level is back to normal.
‘Vendor1543’ thinks “Peep John Smith sure stinks”

You noticed this too, there is a green fog following John Smith. Peeps on the path behind him start to projectile vomit. ‘handyman332’ thinks “I’m not being paid enough for this” – “I quit”.
Handyman332 has quit.

John does not know what to do with the park map and places it on the nearest bench. You think now that was $0.60 well spent.

You have to get John Smith to a shower or bath. Darn, there is no such thing in RCT3. You get an idea; maybe ‘Log Flume 1’ will do the trick. It’s only 5 squares away.
You click “go here” on ‘log flume 1’ John obeys and heads of to ‘log flume 1’
All well so far. John pays the ride fee and then spins around in the air and gets in a Log -- NAKED. You drop your head in shame. John thinks “I need to use the bathroom”
You think – okay, okay, okay! As soon as you get of the ride.

John gets of the ride. He thinks “‘Log flume 1’ was boring”. Well at least you don’t smell anymore you perv!!!!

You click on ‘toilets 2’ and tell John to “go Here”. John heads of to ‘Hotdog stand 1’
You think about this, maybe you clicked on the wrong stall. You click on ‘toilets 2’ again and tell John to “Go Here”. He still heads to ‘Hotdog Stand 1’
You look at his levels and you see the he does not need the toilet. Why did he say that he needs to go then?
Your console beeps. You reed the massage: “Park inspector has closed ‘Log flume 1’. Water found to be contaminated with human waste”
John Smith you little sh#ter!!!!!!!!

At ‘hotdog stand 1’, John Smith just walks in behind the counter and starts to construct himself a hot dog. You can not control this, John is HUNGRY. He uses all the toppings he can find. Your shop is going bankrupt. At least John Smith gains a ‘cooking skill’ – big whoop!

John leaves and sits down on a ‘park bench’ to eat his hot dog.
‘Vendor74’ at ‘hotdog stand 1’ thinks “I’m not cleaning up John Smiths mess; I’ve not been trained enough.”
‘Park inspector’ says “vendor74 is lazy. Consider training or discipline”
You decide to give ‘Vendor74’ full training and a 100% pay increase. (She now gets $4 per hour). You feel sorry for ‘vendor74’

John Smith has finished his hot dog and promptly disposed of the wrapper on the path in front of him. ‘Security 1’ reprimands him for this (if only – but this is the expansion remember) and John “cleans up” his garbage and disposes of it in the supplied trash can 2 squares away. John has gained a ‘cleaning skill’ (if only RCT3 peeps could learn cleaning skills)

OKAY. Maybe we can get John over to ‘Roller coaster 1’ now. Click on ‘roller coaster 1’ and tell John to “skip here”. (Why not? – it’s a theme park remember).

John skips 6 squares when you notice that his social level is again nearing low. But you’re on top of it. ‘Entertainer13’ (in panda costume) is close and you tell John to “play slaps with ‘entertainer13’”. John walks up to ‘entertainer13’ and gets ready to “play Slaps”.
‘Entertainer13’ is not interested and starts to break dance in front of John Smith.
You panic, Noooo!, this is not social. But guess what, John Smith joins in and starts to dance with ‘entertainer13’. This is working; John’s social level is going up again.

‘peep905, peep44, peep742, peep68 and peep151’ all think “’entertainer13’ is really good. John Smith however sucks”

‘entertainer13’ walks of to entertain more crowds. John Smith however is still prostrate on the ground. WHAT, a bug in the software!!! NO, John Smith has fallen asleep!!!!
Damn. All of a sudden your park speed setting changes from normal to super fast and day turn to night and night to day and you missed all the nice scenery and lighting you designed especially for night time viewing. Bugger!!!!

But at least John Smith gets up, he yawns, and heads to ‘toilet 9’. You leave him be as ‘toilet 9’ is at least close to ‘rollercoaster 1’
John Smiths progress to ‘toilet 9’ is steady and only interrupted by his occasional squirming and bouncing up and down as his need increases.
Finally he reaches ‘toilet 9’. He goes in….. He comes back out. You did not hear the toilet flush!?!
You click on ‘toilet 9’ and tell John to… hang on… there is no “Flush” option. You stare in wonderment. All the peeps go into the toilets… and come back out. No one “flushed”

You think, “Toilet 9 must be disgusting”

Okay, I can do this; you will go on ‘rollercoaster 1’ before the PC ends up out the window.

You click on ‘rollercoaster 1’ and tell John Smith to “go here”. Then you pause the game. You decide to check all John’s levels before you proceed. Better safe than sorry.
Happiness = Ok
Toilet = Great
Cleanliness = good – (You doubt anyway if the park toilets have got washbasins in them.)
Social = Ok

Wow!!!!! , all is great, you un-pause the game. John walks up the queue line to ‘rollercoaster 1’
This is your proud moment. You are going to have an intelligent SIM ride your rollercoaster. How wonderful.

You hear a car horn, you look out your window. NO…it’s... it’s coming from your PC speakers.
NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!
John is late for work. He spins up in the air, changes clothes and runs out your park.

This is great - got to admit to being a SIM fan (although not played 2 yet and admit it loses appeal fairly quickly) but this is v. funny.

Thanks Justy

I'll think up one on a "peep122" visits "the Sims" house.
I can’t think of a plot though. Other than that "peep122" will properly never leave the house, and that he'll complain about stuff like "I want to go on something more exiting than toilet” I don't think there is much to do.

Any ideas ;)

ROFL at the ending. I love storys with a twist

Nice work buddy.

And yes, i agree with Justy. When i played the sims a couple years ago, it was fun for all of, well, half an hour, and then promptly got tedious!

got Sims 2 for christmas and got to admit I am totally hooked at the moment. Much much better than first one. It will get boring eventually though coz I like to have something to aim for - which is why I have about 10 half built sandbox parks in RCT3!

Hi,
I’m not dissing either game, love both of them. Sold my copy of sims2 too buy RCT3 though, Kinda felt like a man my age should not be playing with doll’s houses anymore :)
But yes, sims2 does become slightly boring as you do more of the same over and over again. Yes, RCT3 is also more of the same, but you can at least redesign over and over again – completely start over – without feeling you killed your first sims. Or the feeling that you start from scratch.
RCT3 leaves you exited every time you design a park – sandbox or scenario.
