Hello,
Everytime I try to run RT3 I get the error message "failed to create a direct 3d device." And I have no idea what I should do. I know someone has posted about this problem before, but I'm really not very compatible with computers so I didn't really understand the answer. I've tried reinstalling direct x9 and reinstalling the game also, but that didn't help. I think I have the correct requirements for the game as well.
Please help me!
can you get your system specs for us?
Unfortunatly it sounds like you may have an on-board GFX card - which is unlikley to have the necessary harware to run RCT3 but
it would help if you could post your system specs and/or your direct x diagnostic report
open a run box (from the start menu) and type in "dxdiag" (without speech marks).

Manufacturer: SiS

Sorry but a SIS card/chip will not run RCT3 - it does not support hardware T&L which is needed :( :( :(
See the FAQ (http://www.uk.atari.com/third_party/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3862) above - about 4 posts down on System Specs and notes on GFX

Hi ,
I've experimented with this problem...1) checked windows updates, 2) ensured latest directx download from microsoft & re-installed directx 9.0c 3) updated graphics drivers for SiS 650/651, 4) even tried with adjusting graphics accelerator settings...all of these things failed.....so today I bought & installed a GeForce FX 5200 AGP graphics card with 128Mb RAM .....rollercoaster tycoon 3 now works fine ...therefore i've concluded it's definitely a case that the SiS 650/651 card is not sufficient.....Cost of GeForce FX 5200 was £44 sterling....Whilst this has cost me more than the RCT3 game itself, my son is happy now....& it does mean the card is more industry standard/higher spec & will mean newer games coming out soon will run OK...eg: Star Wars games etc....
Regards...William...Note ...for the Packard Bell Imedia 5004 PC...the 'AGP' card is required...not 'PCI'.....
Thank you for posting your resoloution to the problem William - it might help someone else
And I think you will find the card price was not a waste - any game that requires real 3d rendering will need it, and you might find it brings new life to old games too.
One of my joys of the upgrade battel over the years has been to see what it did to games I could not play at even close to best before.

I have that chip (SiS M661FX) and it's in my laptop. Is there any way of upgrading it I have an Advent 7065. Please help! Instead of posting here could you email me at n.formby@yahoo.co.uk because I will probably forget to check back here.
Thanks for the info.
I'll be taking RT3 back tomorrow then. eekblue: :noooo: :noooo:

Check with Advents website as to the possibility of installing another graphics card, although I'd say its unlikely...... :noooo:
