I can see this might be the first mod. The graphics look great. I'm sure the physics will be improved. One thing that bugs me a bit is the blue/red identifying bands on the units. Never really liked that. Will there be some way to remove them. It's wierd spending so much time getting the scene to look real, and then you have this bright blue band on every unit.

it's the indentification of your team... if you remove it you are neutral....

It removes a bit of the "real" in "real time strategy" IMHO. :(

You're kidding, right? How about Sudden Strike, Sudden Strike II, Blitzkrieg (and all of it's spinoffs), Codename Panzers, Cossacks...

Does that qualify?

If you notice, none of these have those silly bands. We should be able to identify the units by their shape, not some silly band. Again, this is my HO!

The bands work this way Kampfgruppe.

Each player picks a colour, this way if more than one player is the same faction you can tell who you are. Also on the minimap whatever colour you pick is the colour your units will appear as. Without the bands everything on the minimap would be grey and confuse players. it avoids the problem of your ally saying "Are those tanks heading towards me yours or the enemies."

Also real-time stratedgy has nothing to do with how "close to reality" the game is. It means that everyplayer in the game builds moves and attacks at the same time. It is the opposite to Turn-based stratedgy in which players take turns, each turn only doing a few actions.

I thought about it and I guess the "real" refers to time, not reality. Does this mean that both sides have the same kinds of tanks, helicopters etc?? It seems like the Consortium has different vehicles and weapons from the screenshots.

If they are different, then we could do without the bands IMHO. But I see what you mean.

The units for each side will be different dont worry.

However, because there are only three factions most of the time more than one person will be the same faction. So without bands or player colours it would be extremely difficult to tell players units apart during mass battles. Don't take this as an insult though just trying to answer you.

LoL. well i don't understand y alittle sumthing like a band would make it any better or worse. I believe that game play and animations mean more than a little band with color

The bands are entirely necessary. It helps a ton. While you could take the time to roll your mouse over every unit, that takes valulable time. Also, the game supports up to 8 players at once, if you're playing with 8 players, there will be at least 3 people with the same faction.

I can see the need if you have 8 playing at once.

As far as the "ROFL" goes, glad I could provide a moment of levity :)

This leads to an interesting point, who thinks it would be cool if you could do what you can do on DoW and paint your figures, type of thing. Make the camo for them, and if anyone says this would defy the point of camo in the first place I'll have note the soldiers in the desert having green camo on a vid I saw and the fact they have a nice blue, red or whatever colour strip they have you choose on anyways.
