i have more than neccasary specs to run this game.
i installed it fine but i got the error message 'please insert original disc instead of a back up see www.securom.com/copy for more details.' I talked to people on a forum who had the same error message and one person had requested a patch from Securom and gave me the patch. This makes my game run perfectly but I wanted to fix the game play issues/bugs so I downloaded Update 1 from the Atari website but this stops my game from working and I assume overwrote the first patch as I got the error message again.
how do i get both patches to work at once???
:madred:
Don't understand the securecomn problem myself, as fortunatley (for me) I have never suffered from it on any game - or any cd/dvd drive and I have had a lot of both.
I presume/hope you still have whatever that patch was - as I doubt it was from Frontier/Atari - if you got it via the US forum you might do better asking them about what has happened.
The only suggestion I can make is to try to un-install/re-install the game
(preferably using another cd drive - a few members have even dug out old ones to get around this as it appears drive specific (as in a fault in the way these drives are handled)
Then reinstall update 1 and the ?securecom patch? possibly in 'that order' before trying again in the other order.
If however you are talking about a no-cd patch/***** this forum is not the place to ask for support for that patch.
However, if it is a drive problem (cd/dvd) you might also want to check the US forum on similar faults as there might be an anwser there. (such as bios and driver updates for certain motherboard/drive combinations)
A PC that is well within spec, is still not necessarally the same as one that it up to date with current drivers and bios (and vendors are notorios for shipping m/c's that are not upto date with either. .
good luck :)

I got the patch of the U.S forum where many people have the same problem here is the link:
http://www.ataricommunity.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=436340
The patch is supplied by a user but is an official patch by securom (who make the copy protection on the discs) This patch replaces the exact same file that Update1 replaces so they both cant run at once. I have an official disc and couldn't run my game for 2 weeks i even bought and returned another copy of the game and it still didnt work.
here is a shortcut to the patch:
http://www.nicksvideo.com/tycoon3d/uploads/rct3.zip
Reading the posts it is not supposed to run together - one is a direct replacement of the other -
IF you follow the instructions you rename the exe file and replace it with the securcom one - also no-one is saying it didn't work post update 1 (although as I suggested, you would have to replace the file AFTER patching with update 1 )
They are saying it will be replaced by update 2 (which isn't out yet - but should have the fix/workaround anyway - which by the looks of it is a securecom fault rather than an Atari/Frontier one)
So again, the only suggestion I can make is to:
Unistall the game
Re-install it
Patch using 'official update 1'
apply the securecom fix (rename/replace the rct.exe file)
Also noted some problems with all this and Antivirus progs (which is not surprising these days) - I disable mine & adware progs before all installs/patches - just make sure you turn them on again afterwards.
any more probs, I suggest you ask there - not cos we don't want to answer, just because they seem to have more xp with this particular fault.
