View Full Version : Demo Will Not Load ??
Heyup everybody
just saw this on Gamershell and first impressions were good
however im having trouble getting the program to start.....i get a range of errors that seem to go round in a loop for every time i try and start the game [ double click the actofwar.exe ]
when i do this, i get an error box with some French in by the looks of things and sometimes a microsoft error box asking if i want to send them some info, and sometimes it runs it as a process in the taskmanager and there will be 3 actofwar.exe processes doing nothing
anyone have any ideas
my compy runs everything ive ever wanted it to, and this is quite strange...ive tried the compatability settings.....also are there supposed to be zip'ed files in the act of war demo directory?
im running windows xp Sp2
A64 3200+
6800GT
1Gb Kingston HyperX
Have you tried Re-starting your PC, or re-install the demo?
Or both?;)
EDIT: Yes, there are supposed to be Zip files there. I have no idea why.
have done, restarted and installed demo to two locations on different hard drives....
Hmm... well, I'm out of ideas. But it MAY have something to do with where you downloaded it.
(Though.. I highly doubt it.)
Personally I downloaded it from the Act Of War page.
this was my immediate conclusion too, i got it from gamershell
i know of others getting it from gamershell so shall see if they have the same problem
I get black screen then the computer restarts. no errors nothing just restart

I hope you get it fixed, it could be a Sp2 issue possibly...?

P4 3,2/1gb/GF4/sB live!/WXP PRO SP2 and works here. Not SP2 fault then. Maybe gfx card drivers?

Let me try and remember my high school French, I believe it's saying access violation of address in 004044e7 in the module actofwar.exe, but I'm guessing you guys may have figured that out.
yeh, ive seen access violations in english, so i had a pretty good idea, usually have to fix em by formatting and trying again.....but i cant do that
Please make sure you have installed Windows Media Format 9 Runtime Series before launching the game; double-click "wmfdist.exe" in the root folder of the game.

I read the readme. Always the first thing i do when a game doesnt work as the people who make it should have some idea.
It didnt make any difference im afraid. :frownblue

I'm hoping that once omega comes out with new drivers based off this new catalyst set it will coreect my texture issues.
i managed to get it to work on my other harddrive...its quite nice, but i have loads of other things to spend money on first
