Should i buy this rollercoaster tycoon 3. IS it good, what is it like, what improvements have been made? Can u help me make my desiscion?
In short: Yes
The longer version: Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! ..................
I don't understand what you mean with has improvements been made – do you mean since initial release (bug fixes), or improvements since RCT1 & 2 – to answer in that order: “Yes” and “Oh Definitely yes”
IT’s 3D – what more can I say. You can build the coasters AND Ride It.
OK – don’t take only my word for it though. This game is all I do currently, so I’m biased. Yes there are bugs, still – the peeps are as dumb as dirt.
And read through some more of the posts here to get a feel for what the game can - and CAN'T do (no tunnels). Especially the tech forum for hardware specs – this game is a monster and the minimum recommended spec posted on the box is by far not playable.
(You need a PC on which –for benchmark comparison – Doom3 or Half live 2 will play comfortably on) not kidding but not that serious either. Anything below 1.2Ghz and a non-DirectX9 GPU will make you loose your temper with this game early on – Playable, but frustrating. Heck – it's even frustrating on a current top of the line PC that most people drool over.
But I am addicted, the fun factor for me waaaayyy out balances the frustration of some of the bugs.
So all I can say when (not if) you do play – Save often !!!!! – Oh – and patch up the retail version to PATCH 2(current at time of post – awaiting patch 3:) ) --
Enjoy – really you will. (and NO, I’m not being paid commission on sales of RCT3 :tonguegre )
Would agree with Hooch on nearly everything here (except I am not quite as addicted as him)
Before you buy - you MUST make sure your PC is upto it (and upto date with drivers etc.,) - try the demo (the US one is better) - but that should really be par for the course for any new PC game.
The peeps ai IS much improved over previous RCT's - but that does mean they are also much more picky and need managing more - they aren't einsteins (still more like forest gump :D) I think it will be some years before games start getting any realy good ai. The groups are a good addition on the whole - (with some exceptions)
The game does need to be played diferently it is not as forgiving as previous titles - and many of the complaints I have seen on gameplay - could actualy be solved by playing the park properly. (I did manage a good number of the scenarios pre- any patch - it was tough but not imposssible - the updates have mainly (apart from squashing real bugs) taken the game back closer to previous versions)
The graphics are pretty stunning (in a comical way) and riding your coaster has more function than just fun (I use it as a building tool) being able to pause build and test while unfinsihed are also assets.
Yes there are no tunnels - but a good imagination and some skill in land-form and scenery use render this a minor frustraion
The staff can still be thick - but now training has an effect.
Yes there are still some quirks I would like to see improved, but once you change your playstyle most can be circumvented.
Add to that a pretty good fireworks editor, a scenario editor and a sandbox and the fact there is no limits other than what your PC can handle make it is one of the best. tycoon titles around.

You should try playing Go With The Flow on an AMD 700MHz Duron and GeForce 2 MX. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...
It has me turning into Windsor Davies from It Ain't Half Hot Mum ("Get ON with it!") :lightbulb

don't buy it if you don't have patient, if you have alot of time buy it I would not buy it because i like more fighting games  Silkius how is it to be a mod?
Even comparing it to Doom3 or HL2 isn't realy fair - They may render hundreds of textures over a couple of hundred polygons, often triggered and dormant untill needed. Wheras RCT3 rendors it over thousands of polygons at once (consider every coaster is approx 10 polys per section & every peep has approx 30,
X 5 coasters and 900 peeps = a lot of polys (and no parrots) - the closest I can think of would be the latest flight sim with full theming packs.
Many peeps are complaining this game runs too slow- and blaming atari/frontier - (not so much here, but elsewhere) but all they did was give the fans what they wanted (3d RCt with no limits) - it is quite possible to build a resonable park with spaced out rides single theming etc., and still get a fair frame rate - (not brill and not on high settings, but playable) - whereas if you build a full size park with all themes (and especialy lots of glass) and pack in every ride as tight as you can get - it'll bring even a beast from Alienware to its knees. (and not surprisingly if you stop and think what you are asking it to do) - again the game needs a fresh outlook on playing - now (with peeps able to spot rides etc., from a distance) it is worth spacing your parks out more like real ones
I do personally think they set the min system requirements on the box a little too low - for such a high end game, but that is just my opinion. (read the sig :) )
@ The Machine - Ain't half hot mum? showing your age a little there m8 :D (but your comment made me laugh)
I did have some serious slowdown but a fresh install on a freshly formatted pc with fresh new drivers from the start - showed me a lot of 'my' probs were down to windows still being a dirty OS and not cleaning all traces my old drivers, progs etc., out (did the same on wifes old p3-800 (with 756mb ram and a T4200i ) and it played - not-fast and not brill gfx settings, but certainly still playable
@ LegendaryBrolly:- Being a MOD = same as not being a MOD - but with ability to move posts and threads to where they should be. :D (Contrary to Fluxx's promises I did not wake up with a new set of horns and an extra tail  )

Thats only because your current horns are still shiney and your original tail is still pointy and forked.........;)
Hi
I wasn't comparing the game as per a polly count, more on the bases of, a lot of peeps know that their PC will not be able to play Doom3 or HL2, it is an inherent thing in gamers, “this game LOOKs way to advanced for my PC”. And that’s is the problem, RTC3 does not LOOK that advanced, Heck , the system spec on the box agrees with this.
A lot of peeps do not even know what system they have in their PC, and unfortunately they are also mostly the peeps that do not read the forums, or even knows about their existence for that matter.
How many peeps would have bought this game solely on the box graphics, and a ‘this LOOKs fun Idea’? I know I used to long ago – if a game consisted of more that 3 polygons per –tank – car – plane –and two colors – I bought it, graphics was everything. Now I know better – but graphics is still everything though. :D
The thing is, you can play the game on the minimum recommendations, but it will not be an enjoyable experience. You can make the game look like the pictures on the back of the packaging, but, it will run about just as fast as the screenshots. :eekblue:
