if you can't make the demo work (it's crashing during startup or it makes your computer reboot) please disable the NX security of WinXP by :
Control Panel => System => Advanced
click the settings button in the first field
data-execute-prevention (dunno how its called in
english).
There are 2 options, if the second one
(enable data-execute-prevention for all programs and
services except the followings..), enable act of war in the list,
or choose the option "enable data execution prevention only for necessary windows programs or services"
It will solve some problems i think :)
if it still crashes, send me a message
thanx to asfasf who found this

Well there have been more problems with it, AoW isn't the first and probable not the last either. For all people with a Athlon 64 and XP it would be nice if it could be fixed though.
Ofcourse I won't have a problem with my 25% overclocked Duron  :biggringr
Lol, Maybe i am blind or somethinh, but this is the way i see my options in system --> advanced. I dont see your options :S
I can choose between Performacen, User profiles and Start up and recovery, but in all of them i cant see the checkboxes :S

This is not exactly the same problem, the PC of crusher reboots when he launches the game.
I'm afraid this is a bug of Windows XP again, because although the game used to cause many many bugs during the time we developped it (and no bug now :biggringr ) we never saw one of our computer reboot. Rebooting sounds really like a driver/OS problem to me. Or bios.
if you changed some system settings of windows or the bios before you installed the game maybe you should revert them back to their original values (typically, make your bios run in "slowest" mode and see if it changes something. Usually you can change your bios settings and there are two default configs - debug and optimized.)
Except that i'm clueless, sorry.
If you really want to see the game ask one of your firnds to lend you his PC :p:

I don't use NX security anyhow, I only use Norton, an that seems to do the job well.

Norton doesn't check buffer overflows at all, but activating it is only usefull for people with servers (so i guess gamers are not required to activate it)
hmmmm, AoW have problems with NX... grrrrr, why me ?

General recommendation with Athlon64 + WinXp (except : don't use it ;-)) is : update to Service Pack 2 and make sure you've applied the above steps to disable NX security. It should solve most crashes (reboots & crashes)
I installed the latest AMD driver for the AMD AThlon 64 processor and now everything is working.

Yes my system reboots. But the most funny thing. I bought this pc just a few weeks ago. And i dindt changed anything in my bios
I dont want to install SP 2, but i heard some older games have some troubles with it.
I dont have any problems with other new games, like FarCry, NFSU 2, COD united offence, so thats strange.
I also posted som things on a dutch forum, and i have some other problems with my pc. It reboots also if i want to save files (sometimes). I dont have grounded elctricity (dont know how to say it in english), so prob thats the problem. This weekend Im going to test it downstairs and if the problem is solved I'll let you know!

I'm having similar probs with my AMD Athlon 64 3.2Ghz. I'm running XP SP2, and so tried the NX thing. Demo still won't install properly, 3 .dat files fail to extract, and so the demo freezes at the flash screen, I then have to kill the process via Task Manager.
During installation I get the following message:
CRC failed in AOW_DEMO_EURO\datai_demo.dat
and
CRC failed in AOW_DEMO_EURO\datas_demo.dat
Then once installation is complete, the following message is displayed:
Some installation files are corrupt. Please download a fresh copy and retry the installation.
Is this just me or has anyone else experienced this?

I doubt the ground will be the problem, I live in a house from the fifties which doesn't have ground either. I've never had any problems with that. Basicly ground comes in handy when you got a short, but if you don't everything should work fine. It's always recommended though, but if you live in a old house there's not much you can do.

I have experienced getting the game to install, and load to the intro screen and menu, then reboot my machine at 100% load progress into the game itself. Disabled NX through the boot.ini, etc. latest drivers, etc. It's freaking nonsense.
This is getting out of hand, and now I am out 50 bucks because I cannot return this pile.
I thought I would let you folks know that I experienced a reboot everytime I tried launching missions. I spent ages updating everything and nothing worked, then I checked Stereo on the sound options rather than 3D. I changed it in the first place because I have a 5.1 sound card. Anyway that fixed the problem, its worth a shot for everyone else!

hi.
i'm an Italian Player ( so, sorry for my bad english)
I'm going to buy AoW, and I've an AMD Athlon FX-55.
This processor, has the "NX problem" whit this game?
Hey, I have been trying to play this game for 3 days now without much luck. installation was fine as was updating. I can even play the game for a few mins before the black screen a couple of mins passes by and then reboot.
Checking the forums I have been to the AMD website and obtained the latest drivers ( i beleive to have done so anyway) but still no luck
Please help as this appears to be a quality game
