I have a Gforce 6600GT graphics card that is PCI express and a Hyundai LS0+ TFT monitor. When I try to run Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 I get the message from my monitor saying " VIDEO MODE NOT SUPPORTED"

I have downloaded the latest drivers but I still get this message. I can here the title screen music in the background but no display.

All other games I own including serveral old ones run smooth. This is really frustrating and help would be appricated

Hi,
I don’t know if this will help but what resolution is your screen set to in windows. If it is high, i.e. 1600 x 2024 or some such, try to set it lower at first, i.e 1024 x 768. even lower.

Also check the Screen refresh rate your monitor is set to. And try a midrange setting at first like 60 – 70 hertz (even if your monitor can handle more.)
Refresh rates can be found at - Display properties–>advanced–>monitor. Always have the “ Hide modes that this monitor can not display” checked to avoid setting it too high – NB NB NB !!!! this will only help if you installed the drivers for your monitor, or windows knows the make and model of your monitor, otherwise it wont know the correct modes to hide.

Secondly I presume you successfully installed the game as you get the music. RCT3 when first initialized auto sets your graphics values for the game. Per your GPU spec it might have set it higher than your monitor can handle, so you might have to uninstall RCT3, then set your specs as described above, and reinstall RCT3 so it picks up lower values – (if it runs on your desktop setting) – if it works, you can always tweak your RCT3 settings again in the options menu, too within acceptable limits.

thanks for the reply Hooch, Tried the things you suggested, but it din't work for me.

All other game work just rollercoaster tycoon 3. Rang up ATARI's support line and all they said was it could be a issue with your PCI-Express card because frontier did not test the game using PCI-Express.

Does anyone else run Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 ok on PCI express? really puzzling me this one.

Looks to be a problem with my monitor. I ran the game through a different monitor and it work fine. I put my screen resolution to 1024x768 and reinstalled the game again making sure I deleted the file in the "My Documents" section.

Soon as I booted the game back up on the TFT I got the message "VIDEO MODE NOT SUPPORTED" so its off the hyundai to see what they got to say.

Dang,
And i'd give my front teeth for a TFT screen. Got a 19" LG and had to setup my PC on the dining room table as the monitor doesn't fit in anywhere else. :)

Thanks for the heads up.

Good news is, NOW You can play RCT3 !!!!

Hi, i have the same problem over here; i have the Ati xt800pro 256mb from Sapphire and i have the Iiyama as4314ut lcd screen (max resolution 1280x1024).

I tried evertything but nothing helped.

Isn't there another possibility than buying a new screen?

It might be a good idea to contact Technical support for your monitor as Maceola69 is about to do. I expect he has already.

Maceola69 if you are out there, can you tell us the outcome of what happened? What did Hyundai say about what the error might be?

Does anybody else know why this is happening with what seems like TFT and LCD monitors?

I have a sorry feeling that your monitors might not be compatable. I had the problem when my lil bro got The Incredibles. It turned out that our TFT monitor wasn't compatable - the max refresh rate was 75 herts - The Incredibles demanded a higher refresh rate. But don't fear, I got my money back for that because it never says on game boxes in the minimum spec bit about refresh rates.

Once you have given everything a go eg trying to adjust your graphics settings ect then try another monitor or get your money back from the place you purchased the game from.

In the future when buying a new monitor I'm going to check the refresh rate on it.

So you feeling like you've been ripped off, I dont blame ya, but thats technology for you - complicated, unreliable and expensive, but I still love it lol.

This is worrying - period - since when did games 'demand' refresh rates of over 75hz ?

Would like more info from gurus - especially as refresh rates on a tft are not quite the same (the whole reason I use them - the pixel lcd's are continually refreshed rather than by screen line/scan )

Also would dvi over standard vga make a diference? - I ask because I am seriously looking at a 19/20" tft to go with my 16" tft for work (but naturally ant to also use it for freetime.

Dvi would probably be a good idea dude, but as far as gaming is concerned, I'm avoiding TFT monitors altogether.I don't trust them, and I think you would have to spend a fortune to buy one that would display games as good as a good 17" CRT model.Thats just my opinion though.Feel free to have your own opinion, no matter how wrong and misguided:D

You're saying you don't believe me? I'm certain that was the problem.

No he wasn't - he was saying it was a worrying trend for games to demand silly specifications.Which is correct.it is worrying:weirdblue

i get this message too. i have a geforce 6600GT PCI-E 128mb with a 17" Hyundia L70S+ Moniter. It is my belief that the game has a problem with moniters over 17". If anyone runs rct3 with a 17" moniter please tell me.

I bow to the knowledge of Silkius and Warspite, as they are both much smarter than me. I have, however, played RCT3 on a 17'' TFT. Its been a while, but I dont think RCT3 supports 1280x1024, for some reason. As this is the native resolution for most 17 and 19'' TFT's it can be a problem. Its not the refresh rate of your moniters.

You could try this........

If the game won’t run properly because you selected the wrong screen resolution, navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\[YOUR USERNAME]\Application Data\Atari\<RCT3> and delete the options.txt file. It will then start up again.

from the FAQ.

The game doesn't support 1280x1024 as a native resolution. You can edit the options.txt file to set this resolution, but it is recommended that you use the resolutions available in game. It does support 1280x960 and your moniter should be able to support it (Mine does) It just streches the image a bit to make it fit......... :D

Hello all
I have just spend a lot of time trying to help my daughter with her new game, RCT3.
The game sets the default values in the options-file to 1280X960 without taking in consideration what the actual setting on the display. You have to edit the file - NOT DELETE IT. If your display e.g. support 1280X1024 you have to edit this values into the option file. just replace the values with the values you want (I used 1280X1024) and your problems should be solved.
best regards
