View Full Version : It seems RCT3 doesn't like Radeon cards

I've only been playing this game for about 4-5 hours in total so far, and the game has already crashed twice.

My computer is not overheating or anything, temperature of processor after this amount of time is about 35-40°c.

It seems that most people who are experiencing crashes to desktop followed by the "Windows Error Reporting" tool are ATi Radeon 9800 users.

I have the game fully patched, and the ATi Catalyst 5.2 drivers installed correctly. (Currently the most recent.) Also I'm using Windows XP Service Pack 2, and minimal processes are running when playing the game. I have a Pentium 4 3.80 Ghz and 1024mb ram.

It just crashes every so often for no reason.:bored: So are Atari going to release another patch to solve the issue or what?

I can imagine how mad some of you are after building a big park only to have the game crash and lose all of your saves. I sympathise with you.

Sorry to hear youre having problems.......:frownblue

You are using the 5.2 drivers.......

On the Frontier FAQ it says.........

ATI Radeon cards:

Known good driver version: Catalyst 5.1

Now I personally dont see why the 5.2's should be any different, but Im no expert.....
:lightbulb

You could try rolling back/reinstalling the 5.1's, but you might still end up with the crashing......:madred:

Have you sent a dxdiag to Frontier?

Thanks for your reply Fluxx.

To be honest, I'm not really impressed with ATi's new 5.2's anyway. I may try the 5.1's and see how they work. :)

I've been running a 9800 all in wonder with 5.126 with no probs at all (didn't even know 5.2 was out)

some reckon the omega drivers are better (didn't see any improvement myself) from what I understand, most cat updates of late have been improvements to the cat side and this ai feature (great on fps games like d3 & hl2 not so hot on others) and pulling in code that has been screwy for some time.

I've had the same problem as you have. I have just purchased a Radeon 9800 Pro Atlantis. I tried all the drivers including 5.1 to no avail. I have now purchased an Audigy 2 soundcard and the game has become completely stable on Radeon 5.1 drivers. All I can suggest is that there may be a conflict between your graphics card and other parts of your system. After I installed my new Radeon, some games had quite 'choppy' sound. This is now all cleared, so maybe the Radeon was competing with the sound card or something.

Hope this may help.

Out of interest -What sound card did you have before?

It was onboard AC'97. ASUS P4P800-E Deluxe Motherboard.
