take it back and complain, and dont stop complaining until you get a new disk.

Aluka

Do you have IDE drive? Some copy protections read only from IDE.

Or the game could be pirated...:eekblue:

No disc inserted - what a waste of money - anyone found a solution to this yet?

Krayzee

I've found a solution that works for me...

It seems the copy protection on the disk does not like Sonic DLA (drive letter access) with some DVD drives.. if you right click on the DVD drive and go to properties then click on the DLA tab and then untick 'Enable DLA on drives', that should work....

I don't know the in's and out's of it, but it worked for me, and I'm hoping it will help someone else out.

Cheers :biggringr

Although itīs a fix for MS games it still adresses the no CD found "When running a restricted user account with fast user switching under Windows XP"

Remember to make a restore point just in case.

I rung UK technical support and they said to ring DVD-ROM manufacturer. I rung Dell and after 2 hours of tech support from India i downloaded a patch to update my DVD-Rom drives. Then it randomly worked and hasn't worked since. As i just ripped the plug out the back of my computer 3 times in frustration at why it screwed up again, I checked and found this post and...

"It seems the copy protection on the disk does not like Sonic DLA (drive letter access) with some DVD drives.. if you right click on the DVD drive and go to properties then click on the DLA tab and then untick 'Enable DLA on drives', that should work...."

Fixed the problem in approximately 2 seconds! I don't know what's more anoying- that I had 2 hours of frustration and got no where, or that it only should of taken 2 seconds to solve. Thanks Krayzee!

Im having similar problems, I looked for the DLA tab but couldn't see it (my PC knowledge is pretty poor!)

Weirdly, I can run the game when I first install it, but not afterwards. Basically, I have to uninstall and reinstall the game each time I play it.

Im 99% sure my PC is an Athlon 64. It has 512mb, XT800 Pro, and a DVD drive, using XP.

Hope this helps find a fix, particularly for people here who can't play it at all at the moment :-(

A solved the same problem. I have an OEM DVDR and i can't update the firmware. So i choose the big solution and bought a cheap DVD reader RETAIL version (LG). This one starts the games without a problem.

Why are you posting this nonsense to every single thread in this forum ???

Buying a new drive is NOT a solution - Atari has to do some homework here. Its not my job to get this game running by buying a new drive. This is insane!!!

Agreed.....

No way am I replacing hardware from a system not that old, which runs every other single title I have thrown at it flawlessly, including the so called buggy Half Life 2 just to get this piece of **** to work...im severely gutted, I got suckered into buying a game that does look very good, that I cannot play.

I won't my cash back, I don't get much ....so ffs ....I could put the money to what I should have used it on, stuff like food and bills.

Stick to Chuckie Egg ffs if you cannot handle real games.

Ok, I did the DLA thing, and it worked fine. I played it yesterday, and today... But just now, I downloaded the patch after clicking on "online"... Now it cannot authenticate my fecking CD no matter what! What must I do to fix this?

You suffer from the same problem like I do. The patch updated the copy-protection from Securom 5 to Securom 7. This messed everything up. Although you (and I and a lot of other people) have the original DVD, it wont be validated.

There is nothing, really nothing you could do. I tried everything and nothing works. Its Atari (or the developers) who need to fix this.

Till now, both have not posted any comment on this issue on their website or in this forum. I am really annoyed because I feel like they don't really care for their customers.

I want an offical statement that tells us that they understood that their patch is buggy and that they are working on it.

Hey Atari, give us a note and don't leave us in the dark!!!!

Well they have to diagnose the problem first, and the best way to help pinpoint exactly what could be causing it is if you sent your dxdiag and the Launch Analysis file(right click the AoW shortcut) and send it ot atarisupport.com. Have you atleast done this?

There is nothing, really nothing you could do. I tried everything and nothing works. Its Atari (or the developers) who need to fix this.AFAIK, there is nothing wrong per se with the copy protection, but it's a known fact to everyone by now that it was perhaps a little too restrictive in allowing disc access under certain conditions.

Our Customer Support has already been able to help the vast majority of all users that have experienced and reported this issue, in some cases by advising how to reconfigure your system, but in most cases by sending a new executable customized for the reported end-user environment. In those where the "fix" doesn't work, they continue to work on the case until they find a solution. That is what Customer Support is for. The main purpose of the forum is to exchange experiences, hints, tips, and ideas, i.e. not tech support, even if especially the guys at Eugen spend considerable efforts helping individual users on this forum.

That said, I update the FAQ on a daily basis with technical advise from forum users (three more suggestions for workarounds on the issues you're experiencing as late as this morning). Again, our Customer Support have been able to help the vast majority of users already, but it's really difficult to help if they don't hear from you.Till now, both have not posted any comment on this issue on their website or in this forum. I am really annoyed because I feel like they don't really care for their customers. As said in the FAQ thread (http://www.uk.atari.com/third_party/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7574), only the FAQ on the U.S. forum (http://www.ataricommunity.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=354) is being regularly updated (as the posts on this site have a size limit, which is already reached for the FAQ post over here; sorry about that.)I want an offical statement that tells us that they understood that their patch is buggy and that they are working on it.As for issues related to the copy protection, there really isn't very much we can do about this as long as Sony/SecuROM keeps fixing the issues that are reported (so far, they've been able to either help every user, or they're still working on it).

We do however still have one issue with the patch that is still eluding us, the "crash on 30-38% of the loading screen", but as neither Eugen or Atari's QA have ever been able to reproduce this, we really need your help to pinpoint what's causing it, so that we can fix it. Again, please refer to the FAQ thread (http://www.ataricommunity.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=455721) on the U.S. forum, which doesn't only contain advise how other users have been able to work around it, but also describes how to report it to both Eugen's programmers (http://www.ataricommunity.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=459532) and Customer Support.

Thanks in advance for your help, and again -- please accept my sincere apologies for the issues you're experiencing. I can assure you that if we had encountered any of these issues during the QA process, we would not have released this patch. Addressing this is currently our main priority alongside various cheat-prevention measures.

Hang on,

So how many emails do I have to send to receive a resonse other than " We dont know " .....so there you have it, officially your first customer here you haven't been able to help, and I do actually know of a few others but they just sold the game on to other people who managed to get it going on their systems rather than be bothered to try and troubleshoot it.

I have sent several emails to tech support at Atari , aswell as ringing them ....(Manchester office I believe) ...aswell as various emails to Securom , which also ....last reply I got , " We dont know " ...try this new .exe file.

It really amazes me that its the first game in ten years I have come across that only loads up when it decides to, there isnt even a pattern to whats crashing it neither.

99% of the time I can't even make it to the first splash bar, let alone 38% .... formatting my PC hasn't helped, latest drivers ...everything. I am not a complete numpty who will swallow "Get your latest display drivers, chipset drivers" and all of that **** because I already have. I can give you exact versions and the date actually signed into the drivers if you like.
Infact, I can provide any information you require, but fobbing me off with "Format your PC...." ...."Its your PCs fault" etc ....how so, name a game ....and I can play it ...barr this one.

Its actually driving me to C&C Generals, this is how sad its getting.

The game is broken, simple as .... so I ask OFFICIALLY what are my rights when it comes to getting a refund?

From your "I have had enough..." post, your issue sounds like something very different (the copy protection doesn't cause crashes) that will need closer investigation by the programmers. Sorry about that, I'll request all your details and screens from UK Customer Support and make sure they reach Eugen.

Thanks alot there, I actually hate complaining to anybody about anything, life is way too short. But for me to spend so much time trying to play a game, I may aswell just get a soldier to pop one in my own dome for real, interactive ....!

Only good news, from my investigations thus far I have helped a fair few other people get the game going, would be nice to actually be able to play along with them for once.

Rename it to actofwar and then just copy it into the game folder replacing the old one.

I had the problem where you can install the game but you cant run the disc after that. I have both a nec combi writer and a pioneer 106 dvd reader.

Both would not play the game. Now i have winxp-pro but to get the game working fine with ni issues i just right clicked on the desktop icon and changed the compatability mode to win 2000. Game now plays perfectly.
