Hi Damien,
It seems that a software conflict causes this issue. Unfortunately we were not able to figure out this software yet.
But we have replaced the file of the link with a newer version. Maybe you'll try again to replace the executable.
The link for the new file is:

Sorry for any inconvenience.
best regards,

And some more news, kind of held out on this one for that I do apologise.
Had my reasons...
Specific bugs with the Athlon 64 which conflct with Securom's workings.... 101% tested .exe here for people with these CPUs and the crash on game launch issue.
Enjoy :)

Hi,
This problem is annoying the hell out of me!!! Before i downloaded the new .exe file, clicking the Act of War startup icon did absolutely nothing.
After i downloaded the new file, all i get is that error message saying "The original Disk could be authenticated, please insert the original disk".
Now unless i went to the shop and paid £30 for an incredibly good copy, it is the original disk.
I actually had this exact same problem with Warhammer 40000 : Dawn of War, but i managed to get around it by making a copy of the original disk (You've got to love the irony of copyright protection that will ONLY let you play a copy of the game and not the original!).
That doesnt work on this game though as its the first thing i tried.....i've now tried everything suggested on this forum (that i have found) and still get the same error message. I cant even install the patches because i'm told to "Make sure the game has started at least once" which it wont do because of this conflict.
I am now thinking of trying to turn the disk into some kind of weapon.......

i have a similar problem:
the game works fine when installed, version 1.0.
if i apply a patch(1b or 2 (1.04), doesn't matter) then i first get a timeout for recognizing the original disk.
i get the option to retry, then it complains about the original disk not found.
yes, i do have an original game-dvd which i payed 50 € for.
please help me whoever is able to do so !!!
greets
Julio

Where the **** is the patch Atari? Personally I have no problems and like the game, these other people have issues. Get off your asses and support your product, or at least reply to them.
Good day to you.

I just picked this game up from Tesco on a whim, thought it looked interesting then was faced with this crashing on startup issue - I have an amd64 4000+.
What a joke! I've spent the best part of an hour trawling forums looking for solutions just to play the damn game (until I came here where I found a solution, good work guys). I hope that there are some red faces at Atari and at Securom, your QA guys must have been on holiday during the AOW release right? In this day and age things like this should not happen, paying customers should not have to run around trying to fix products that they pay their hard earned cash for. Such a fundamental issue should have been caught by your QA/QC people prior to release and fixed at source. Suffice to say I was so pi$$ed off with the whole thing that the software was duly removed from the machine and will be making its bug riddled way back to Tescos, I'll have them place it back amongst the cabbages and turnips where it belongs.
