Hi, apologies if this has been brought up before, but I've browsed and searched this site carefully and can find no record: I'm currently receiving a Component Transfer Error (Catastrophic Failure) prompt message approximately three-quarters of the way through installation of AoW. My spec is insufficient to play the game well (I'm currently installing a new graphics card, but that can't have anything to do with an installation problem), but should be adequate for me to load it. I've tried copying the CD-Rom files to my hard drive, but unfortunately the same problem occurs at exactly the same point. The disk itself appears undamaged to the naked eye, but I'm at a bit of a loss at the moment - has anyone else experienced the same problem?

Thanks, Knopfleratu, but unfortunately that's not working, either. If this isn't as common a problem as I thought, it looks like returning the disck to the vendor is the only option. My graphics card is clearly inadequate, but I don't see any reason why that should prevent installation.

I had exact the same problem and the cause of it was that my old DVD-rom from 1999 could not read duallayer DVDs. (Which is what Act of War is on). Only solution was to get a DVD rom capable of duallayer replay.

You may well be right, Merlin: I've been running Belarec to try and identify the speed of my DVD-rom, but no luck as yet. I'm running an Imedia 5069 with basic spec apart from upgraded RAM, though, I'm not sure if this is the problem as yet.
Anyway, thanks for the heads-up, it's much appreciated: this may well help me pin down the problem.

Np, glad if I can be of any help :)
Try the free program Disc Info
http://discinfo.rpc1.org/
Also if you are in luck, you could be able get a newer firmware for you DVD supporting duallayer.
Firmware is like the bios on your computer and sometimes updating it can provide new features. _But_ if you choose the wrong firmware, you end up with some piece of metal ready for the garbage can.
Nierle has a link site for firmware updates for Packard Bell computers here (Choose Hewlet Packard in the drop down menu):
http://www.nierle1.com/s01.php?shopid=s01&cur=eur&sp=de&ag=1&pp=htm&htmnr=6&htmtitel=Firmewarelinks#h7t1
Discinfo should give you your current firmware version, but Nierle.com has a link to a firmware detection tool at the bottom of the page.
