You cannot help those, who are angry. Ooommm.
To me it is obvious, that it is a problem on the user side. The game installed perfectly for me. If you expect any support to have an immediate fix, then you simply under estimate the complexity of today's computers. Quickest method to find out if it is a hardware or a software problem is to reinstall Windows from scratch and then the game. If that fails, it is most likely a hardware problem. Once you know where it is coming from, you can narrow the search further.

Looks like your sister is better in administrating a PC than you are. You might want to ask her for help.

Solution:
-Install Microsoft windows XP pro/home with ******SP2*****(MUST)
- then install the game...
- do not download patchs form the internet explorer....
- double clik on ACTOFWAR.EXE and go to online and it will tell u that u need an update for a patch.. clikc ok and download it .. <<--- thats the best working and safest patch here...
then defrag ur computer and restart and enjoy
I have the exact same problem as Triple has.
During installation this "CRC" error occurs.
It says:
"CRC error: The file C:\Games\Act of War - Direct Action\datav.dat doesn't match the file in the setup's .cab file. The medium from wich you are running the setup may be corrupted; Contact your software vendor."
The disc is really brand new, shiny and crisp clear.
The device is fairly new and shows no errors with any other media. (it also never had a problem picking act of war up whatsoever)
The error occures at exactly the same time and fashion each new try.
I've sent a mail to the dutch atari help listed in the manual, but reply yet...anybody here has an idea?
Triple, what did you do?...
greetz,
Baze.
Same here, some games i try to install come up with a CRC error.
Its about 4 / 5 different ones, some DVD some normal CD, all in perfect condition, yet the same error keeps on appearing during installation! It seems that they keep on occuring in different stages of the installation (some times its at about 25% completion, other times its right at the end)
The games do work, as i have installed them on another (yet slightly older) pc, with no errors of any kind occuring, which is running exactly the same version of XP (so im assuming it isnt anything to do with the PCs current OS / defects on the cd)
Ive tried completely wiping the entire pc + re-installing windowsXP, digging up my version of Windows98 and trying that, and i have also checked all the internal connections, and everything seems to be connected up ok, yet the errors still occur.
My friends say that its probably a problem with the hardware, yet i cant see anything wrong. Its driving me insane  , can anyone suggest anything that could be the problem / solution? Thnx

1. I didn't do it, I'm running Windows XP with SP1 and without internet, since SP2 is for security updates against attacks from the internet ... game looks and works perfectly
2. Installing the game is a must :D
3. you can also download the files via IE/Mozilla, that isn't a problem
4. well, I can't because I don't have internet on this PC
Anyway, back to the topic: DVD/CD-drives being incompatible to specific DVDs/CDs is very seldom but occurs from time to time.
I also experienced this: My StarCraft-CD worked on my first PC (ever in my life), a PI 120 Mhz, 16 MB RAM, S3 Virge, without problems whereas my second PC couldn't read the CD, a PIII 933 Mhz, 128 MB SDRAM, GeForce 2 MX, it couldn't read it although I tried everything. :madred:
My third (and best) PC can read the CD without problems, a PIV 3,06 Ghz, 2048 MB DDR-RAM, Radeon 9800XT ... but of course the time for StarCraft has passed.
Act of War rocks, best RTS game at this moment !!!
