View Full Version : When loading a game level or map the game crashes
I installed the ggame and it crashed when I tried to lanuch the game.
So I patched it and now I can get in in but if try to start the main campaine or a skirmish the game shows what ever load screen for the skrimish or level. Then as it almost finshes loading the level/map the game crashes to the desk top and says an error has occured, inlcuding a error log but I haven't been able to find any text file.
Never mind I just had to resintall it and it was fine.

I have the same problem. Any time i want to start a campaign the computer crashes to the desktop. Reinstalling won't help. I really want to play the game.......but i can't!
Please help me!!!
Maybe putting your system specs will help more, perhaps your videocard isn't compatible? old drivers? perhaps something else? you're providing little info now :) without this it's kinda hard guessing what your problem can be ;)

I have an Athlon 2100+, 768 MB Ram, Raeaon 9600 with the 5.5 Catalyst, so i think it should work. Every time i want to start the campaign he shows me the loading screen and when he is ready, he goes back to the desktop without any coment.

Ok, I was on the verge of selling the game as it wouldn’t load a mission, just crash, reboot without an error message.
I was tired of seeing the title screen and I had given up, I had tried everything (patch obviously) from flashing the BIOS, changing chipset drivers, sound and graphics drivers to various hardware set-ups, unplugging hardware (USB controllers)....I TRIED IT ALL!
Anyway, I changed a few Windows settings and managed to make XP show me and error message and NOT simply reboot.
The 'blue screen of death' showed me a problem with a Qsound Audio file.
So, I figured sound card problem, so uninstalled the drivers and AOW loaded!
I had the latest drivers and re-installed. I disabled the 'Qsound' effects, but on running the game and loading a mission, it failed and halted to a plain blue screen.
Then I though "isn't Qsound just for 3D surround sound?", I'm not sure but think it is.
I normally use normal stereo speakers, with appropriate software options selected, then switch the settings to 5.1 surround for surround headphone use with FP shooters etc. I don’t normally bother with 5.1 for strategy games etc.
Anyway, I turned 5.1 software options on and ran the game, changed the sound settings in the game to '3D sound' and alas, it loaded!!
I've damaged myself mentally trying to solve this problem...maybe Atari will compensate me for loss of time and the brain cells that have died in the process…
I'd give it a try, good chance it is your problem too!
My system -
AMD Athlon XP 2000+
ATI Radion 9800 Pro 128MB
512 MB RAM
Phillips Sonic Edge 5.1
Running XP PRO SP2
Good Luck! Hope this helps someone, I registered specifically in the hope it would....also needed to tell everyone of my victory! :)
