OK, I am from Dublin and I just wanted to see how this compares with the English cities and towns.
In the last month, there has been 6 gangland killings (The last one occuring on Thursday the 5th) in Dublin, 4 Bank/Securicor raids and a HUGE rise in crime.
Has anyone else ever expierienced this?

Well in response to Kioman, smoking and drugs are a big part of a lot of senior schools. I knwo countless people from my school who are "stoners".

w00t, stoners!
lol
drugs are wrong kids, but alcohol is good, cigs are baaaad, "special" cookies are gooooooood
I live nearish brixton, where people get shot and stuff, but meh, in clapham it's mainly chavs with parents that wouldn't commit violent crimes, because it would alert the authorities to the fact that they are commiting benefit fraud already.
The chavs try and start fights, but most of the time you simply laugh in their face...but then you get the odd few that think they are gangsters and will then try to stab you...
even though everyone knows you are only a proper gangster if you have respect for people, even your enemies, ESPECIALLY your enemies. Crime is a business, you don't just commit petty theft for the hell of it, protection, laundering and the like are the way to truely function as a beneficial cell of the community :rolleyesa

I've only seen a stabbing once and I must say I felt sick. I was with my 11 Year old brother at the time as well so it felt even worse.
I've seen people getting beaten up but it doesn't happen around where I live very often fortunately :)

Well, I have never witnessed a killing but down the road from me, yesterday, there was a bank raid. Again. It's pretty weird. Anyway, I've witnessed nackers (chavs) beating each other up in the city centre on my way down to the bus stop.

wouldn't you rather get some sleep and be awake the next day nice and early?

:lolblue: That's the problem you see, no matter how late I go to bed I always get up at the same time. And that's aroung 12.00 noon. I try but I can never get out of bed at the weekend before then :lolblue:
Therefore if I fail to stay up then it just means I have less time to do what I want at the weekend

I live in Grimsby, a small town on the east coast (near hull). In the past 5 years it has really declined. It was never great in the first place but when i came back from university it was full of these "chavs", stabbings, rape, drunken brawls. I avoid a particular part of town if I go out for some drinks with friends, it's just not safe.
If you look a little different, have different clothes or have different hair than them it is an excuse to glass you in the face and beat you up.

I want to leave London, but not England.
No point in discussing crime in London. Personally I've only been mugged once, never been in a fight, stopped a couple without being punched in the face, never seen too much violence. Lots of lunatics, yes. If you ask me if I feel comfortable walking around alone, well, no.
It's shocking how it's not even a matter of being careful at night, daytime crime is just as bad. Some guy was beheaded in the middle of a street not far from where I live at 9.30am a few months ago.

Its amazing how that story of the beheaded man never got on the news tenebra...
It was pretty shocking.
Article from The Evening Standard
14 March 2005
A man was beheaded in a frenzied and prolonged axe attack in a London street today.
The axeman, smartly-dressed and in his thirties, felled his victim with one blow and then struck repeatedly "as if he was chopping wood".
The assault lasted several minutes near the Hampstead Theatre in Belsize Park. The attacker ignored his victim's screams and the pleas of two women passers-by and workmen. He stopped when police arrived. He then put down the axe near the body. He was described as looking "emotionless and cool" throughout.
When asked why he had done it, he told officers: "It's complicated. It's private."
Mothers on the morning school run were among those who saw the killing in Eton Avenue.
Police said the victim was in his sixties and is thought to have lived nearby.
Officers do not think it was a random attack and understand that the men knew each other.
A neighbour said there had been a series of domestic rows at a nearby address.
A scaffolder working nearby saw a man carrying an axe in one hand above his head as he ran towards his victim. The men were seen to exchange a few words.
Seconds later the axeman struck the first of a series of heavy blows which continued when the victim lay slumped on the pavement in a pool of blood.
The workman said: "It was unremitting. The man with the axe ran at his victim and just laid into him.
"He brought it down on his head and floored him. The victim had tried to defend himself with his arms and I heard him shout something. But it was hopeless.
"Within seconds he was on the floor and his head had been split open. There was blood pouring from his head and spilling onto the pavement. It was horrific."
Avelina Rodrigues, 48, said the attacker ignored her pleas to stop as he brought blow after blow down upon his victim, leaving the body badly mutilated.
She said: "I heard the first thuds of the axe as it hit the man's head. I thought it was the sound of a child being hit by a car.
"I ran to the front of the house and could see a man, smartly dressed, tall and thin, with the axe in his hand.
"The axeman saw me but he just ignored me. He hacked his victim's head, cutting it as if it was a block of wood for a fire. His victim was unconscious on the ground, but he kept bringing his axe down on him.
"I begged him to stop and he just looked at me without emotion. There was no anger in his face, he did not seem crazy. He was just coolly finishing off his victim. He wanted to destroy him. ."
Another woman passing in a car stopped and pleaded with the man to stop his attack. He also ignored pleas from builders working nearby. Police arrested a man at the scene and he is being held for questioning at Holborn police station.
Eton Avenue is known as one the most exclusive streets in north London with a host of multi-million-pound properties. Belsize Park is also the home to a host of celebrities, including Jude Law, his estranged wife, Sadie Frost, Gwyneth Paltrow and her rock star husband, Chris Martin.

Well it wasn't me - I thought we hit a mine once when we went over a bump and a fire extinguisher exploded in the truck cab. Oh how we laughed :weirdblue
It was dangerous though - I knew some fellas who rolled off Mt Milankovic on the way into Sarajevo. You have to drive it in the dark, with the fuses for your brake lights removed, and follow somone on foot.It was a bad night, and they completely missed a turn :frownblue
BUT - I for one felt safer in the streets there than I do in England; there was no danger of the kind of senseless ,pointless violence that now seems to be part of everyday life here :(
