Yes I'm new here, lets get that out of the way!
I bought the game today and since I have an AMD processor I had the start-up crash problem. I came here looking for a fix and sure enough, credit where credit is due, I found a solution involving downloading a 'fixed' build from securom.com.
Whilst here I figured I'd take a look around and I'm surprised by the amount of people having troubles with the software. I’m not some 13 year old whiz kid but a 30 something who has been involved within the IT/software industry for a fair few years now. My point is this - I don't think that it would be unfair to say that this software is broken, it fails to run on many AMD based systems, sound cards, has issues with VGA hardware (including ATI who are partners/sponsors for the game??!)... The list goes on.
The copy protection is also broken - it works for some people for sure, no arguments there, but for a significant number of customers it does not and this is wrong, the number of remedy requests are obviously too high, indicative that the software is not production quality - or - the QA/QC process was flawed.
The member 'screetch' who I believe is a member of the development team really does a sterling job, and his efforts are commendable but he shouldn’t have to do this. Though I do scratch my head when blame is manoeuvred onto MS (SP2), video and audio drivers for various problems when many other games do not suffer from these same issues.
I feel all parties involved, but perhaps mainly Atari, have to pick up their game here (pun partially intended). It’s not good enough, its wrong to expect or allow your customers to have to deal with this number of problems with your product.
