View Full Version : Quality vs piracy

I was looking for a RTS game in a store and I saw the "Act of War" box. I knew nothing about the game, but the description in the back and the screeshots in the back made me think it was as interesting one.
To top that, the Atari name gave me a sense of quality that made me buy the game for the usual overpriced tag of 50€ + .
Fortunetly, I was right about the game. In fact, from what I've been able to play, I can safely say its the best RTS I've ever (roughly) played. And the "roughly" part is (obviously) the problem.
From what you can see from my system specs (below) my system meets the minimum requirements and my graphics card is one of the supposedly suported ones. But the truth is that I'm not able to play this game more than 5 minutes in a row! It keeps crashing.
I've had alll kind of error messages reported in this forum, with the exception of the DVD recognition and the 36% problems. WinXP error messages, game error messages (in french), access violation, graphics corruption, you name it.
I'm not going into much detail here, because I've read posts with the same errors from other users and no real bullet proof solution.
I've got all my drivers updated, I've re-instaled the game and defragged the HD more times I can remember, etc, etc and nothing works...the game keeps crashing after a couple of minutes.

Software companies try to fight piracy by reinforcing CD checks and CD-key algorithms, but we all know what makes people get off their @sses and go to a store to spend some of their hard earned money in a game, a music CD or a DVD: a quality and reliable product. Atari hit the spot in the first one: the game is great and it looks great when it works, but it's totaly unreliable!
The next time I (and all the other people with problems with AOW) see a Atari game in a store, what do you think our reaction will be?? I can't speak for others, but I'll definetly read the game forums before buying it!!!

Now to the last point of this post: can someone from Atari do us all a big favour, and inform us if there is a patch in the works, and when it's going to come out, so we can play this great game?
I don't think that's much to ask and since there's so many people with so many different system configurations complaining, i think it's fairly obvious that the problem isn't (at least only) in "this side of the screen"...
I would really appreciate if someone could answer these to simple questions.
Thank you.
