View Full Version : two mission bugs I noticed
There's a quest in Pueblo Faro where you have to get Fernando's assault rifle (The guy's in the bar. I think his name was Fernando). I took it from a table in guerilla's base, and it still pointed me at that table. It didn't say I finished that sub-mission. So I went back to bar and talked to Fernando. Completed the mission. But I still had Fernando's rifle (I can't use that) in my inventory and my assault rifle was missing.
There's a quest from military where you have to blow up guerilla's SAM's and their cargo at their base in the ruins. Blew up both SAM's and boxes underground. Still... arrow points to a location where there's nothing there. Impossible to finish that mission.

I had a similar thing clearing out the bandits at some Indian temple (see separate thread) - always left with an 'X' and the mission wouldn't complete even when I stood (at the right level) 'On Site'. In the end, I rwesolved that one by tackling each bandit in strict 'X' order - which made life very difficult because the 'next' one wasn't always (ever, even) the nearest one already shooting at me like crazy.
Apart from those bugs, I think the game is sadly flawed in its AI - there's no way to sneak in 'amongst a friendly group' and complete a quest, like release a prisoner. It has to be kill everyone around all the time.
But apart from that, the concept is brilliant - a totally non-linear game so you can do/go where you like, but with a prime objective - and in spite of its foibles IMO extremely playable.

I agree with you you mike, despite having a knife and a crossbow (both deemed to be silent killers), even if I take out 1 guy in a room on his own with no windows and all the doors shut I still end up with the whole base after me.
There seems no other way to go about it at all.
that fernando assault rifle ****ed me off no end!
i ahd spent like 10000 pesos on my assault rifle upgrading it ands tuff and bang that asshole takes it!!
needless to say he got a grenade chucked in from outside hehe
There's also a mission where you have to use a SAM to destroy 'enemies attacking base'. In fact they are not attacking, just standing in mountains and theese enemies are guerilla's soldiers. I was expecting to fight helicopters or aircrafts. I mean, that's what SAM's are for. This mission was stupid.
But there's one nice bug. Well I wouldn't call it a bug... There's a sniper rifle, sniper ammo and some doughnuts on the top of Puerto Sombra tower. It respawns itself after a while. I took it, flew to Augusto to learn to drive a tank, went back and it was all there again. Nice way to make money later in the game:) If you have a heli. You can start some missions that involve flying and after completing it, instead of talking to the guy who ordered it fly elsewhere till you're low on fuel:)
Another thing about missions that ****ed me off.
When you have to find this Rodriguez guy you can aither pay for the information or do some missions for commandante Ricardo. I took the missions at first. The second one was to travel someplace and negotiate something. After talking to this military guy, he says something like 'So now you are working for the enemies. Soldiers, kill him!' and then all your government relationship goes down to -1. I had +100 and then -1. Plus you have to kill all theese soldiers attacking you (or escape to your nearly parked heli before they spawn).
I loaded previous save and paid for Rodriguez info.
Hehe i remember that mission. I too was 100 government. When i found out they made an enemy of me all i did was park a car near the place. Make sure i was quite light in weight so i could run fast. Then when the guy said "Soldiers Kill Him". I ran straight for the car.
You are able to get out the room and a few steps more before the soldiers appear. Then i was in my vechicle heading straight for some mafia land to increase my relations again. Taking out the base of Don Esteban, the airport and the camp where Mr Botamist is made the government a close friend again. After that it was all forgotten about. :)

Like Mike Shaw, I also encounted the bug when you get the mission to kill the bandit leaders from the airforce guy... I went there (in a helicopter as I did not realise the bandits had two honking great SAM vehicles and at -97, they already REALLY did not like me and started launching!!!! I have never landed a chopper quite that fast before whilst pumping out decoy flares as fast as I could, banging it down right in the middle of the Indian village with the Mayan pyramid!!!)... I legged it the rest of the way and killed every bandit (including one who was a bandit leader called 'Dirty Harry') but even when I am shown as 'on site', there is no one there and so I cannot finish the mission. Bummer.

You can make silent kills (I just silent bullets for that btw, knifing is such a hassle), however you cannot obtain mission objectives silently, so if the objective is to kill someone, as soon as you do, all of the enemy will be after you.

Yup, Splinter Cell this ain't. :frownblue
I also wish there were some more interactive options to do things like lure people out of rooms so you could steal or photo something without alerting the world.
That said, frankly if they could add *proper* stealth and stop 'telepathic alerts' of the enemy, this game would probably be one of the most fun game I have ever played.
Stealth should be left out of 1st person shooters in my opinion. They are so frustrating and they never work. Please let me know if it did work but never seemed to work in my experience. I gave back Deus Ex: Inivisible War(or whatever it was called) just because I got annoyed with the stealth bits.

So don't play it stealthy then, just shoot everyone if that is what floats your boat, but seeing as there is so much interactive stuff in this game, Quake or Unreal this ain't and so the OPTION of using a good stealth system should be there for those of us who like to try alternative approaches.
I for one like to play smart and not just shoot everyone (unless they are stinking commie guerillas, that is :D ).

Actually, I'ver found a certain amount of stealth is possible - if you crawl in the complete prone position, you can get almost anywhere inside a camp or building without being challenged - even if you pop a few people off en route. Also, in that position, you stand a better chance of 'not' being hit when shot at. It takes loinger to crawl anywhere of course, but you can get by all those jokers wandering the wilderness without any problem, or get real close and take them out if you want.
