Hi people, I just bought Act of War, and tried to install it but i got a catastrophic error!

It stopped the installation and i had to do it again, but i got the same error as before :madred:

How catastrophic? was it a blue screen of death? Was there a text message you can show us?

I have the same problem.

When installing, at about 70% it then pops up the catastrophic error box and you have to click OK, then it ends the install. The disk installs on my laptop, I also copied the whole DVD to my PC and ran the install from my c: to d: driver. Same Error at the same place.

AMD 64 fx, 6600GT 256MG, 2 Gig, abit AX8 main board. XP, OS and bits all patched up.

Anyone help please.

Ruttmeister,

I have this exact same problem posted on this thread. :madred:

I noticed that in your system specs you have mentioned your LG combo drive. Perhaps its just coincidence, but I have exactly the same drive as you (4120B.) Could this perhaps be the common link to our problem? Can the other ppl who have this problem respond with their DVD drive make?

We have to narrow this problem down and solve it ourselves since tech support is clueless on this one. :lightbulb

I did wonder if the combo drive was the problem, my dad had installed and played the game with no problems.....

Am currently installing the game via a friends laptop. hopefully will work, will let you know if it does.

I looked at updating the firmware for the drive but wimped out when i saw how much effort that would take.

tried emailing tech support (usa) and just go an automated reply. gits. :madred:

Can anyone else confirm if this a comon factor with this problem?

Hi,

Yes, I have a LG GCC-4120B (DVD). looks like that is the problem. I cant find any firmware updates for it. Buy a new one ?

Put a different Drive in, a Lite-on Combo drive i had lying around, as you do.
Problem solved. No idea if the firmware update would work for the LG, but its such an old drive now Im happy to just replace it. Its probably all to do with the copy protection anyway :madred:

sorry if this doesn't help anyone without a spare drive....

Problem solved, kinda... :D
