View Full Version : Crashing

Whenever I go to a petrol/gas station or talk about it to a civilian, the game freezes and error appears. I cant play for more than 5/10 minutes as gas station use is inevitable. Why is this happening?

Can't help I am afraid but can sympathise, after 3 weeks of good playing I too am now getting crashes. Game had been running fine on my system but this week every now and then after talking to an NPC (any of them) I start getting patchwork markings on textures then the game freezes. The computer is locked fully then and requires a hard reset.
None of my config has changed and my graphics cards are not overheating, and using them individually gives the same results, they can't both be up the spout. Besides they work much harder when I play BF2 or Farcry on full settings all night without breaking sweat.

Well, I've been whining about the patchwork people since I've had the game.
I don't know about it's relationship to crashing (though I have had a few) but Atari support (and chocolate kettles spring to mind here) told me that it's a known problem with Radeon cards and that if I update my card drivers and apply the latest game patch then the problem should go away.
My patch was already applied and I have the latest card drivers and I still have the problem.
Tech support at Atari simply doesn't seem to have the skills or the botheredness to give out any other advice than "update patches & drivers" - along with, I'd imagine most other even semi-serious gamers out there, I can actually think of this solution myself. I need tech support when that, fairly basic, step fails.
Um. This seems to have turned into a rant about Atari Support, wasn't meant. Anyway. You are not alone.
I emailed Deep Shadows yesterday as well, telling them of this problem and asking them to consider it while putting the patch together. No reply so far, but then, didn't really expect to.

If Atari say it only affects Radeon then I had better tell them it effects my 2 6800 ultras in exactly the same way.

Interesting case. You did not change your game install either?
If so, then as you state you've been playing ok for 3 weeks, something must have changed and the trick is to find out what was changed. Do you use System restore points? Had any added as recently as three weeks earlier? You could go back and see if the problem is solved. If you can find out what changed over those 3 weeks then you could contribute significantly to solving this particular bug.
Btw, I assume you tried a reinstall of the game? It is quite possible something went corrupt (for whatever reason) and a reinstall will solve all.
my game just crash up. i get a super lagging motion and uncontrolable car(like super car). :madred:
but load with older save then the game run smooth. totally no idea what's wrong with it

Its obviously your cards that are at fault...........please send them to me and I'll take them off your hands..........for nothing...........I cant say fairer than that....... ;) :D
Seriously thoughj, I'm sorry to hear your'e all still having problems.......... :frownblue

This is correct with me too. If I start a new game then everything is smooth. Load up a save game that has lots to contend with, few missions on the go, lots of items in the boot and different faction ratings and I start getting into problems. Its almost like the added information is somehow bogging the game down.

:lolblue: if things keep going this way I may eventually be tempted, I spent loads on my 2X gainward 6800 ultras in an SLI setup and I can run Doom 3, Farcry, HL2 all on ultra high settings without the system breaking into a sweat, but in boiling point it doesnt like me. Neither does Roller coaster tycoon 3 soaked (another Atari Product). Every other game I have tried = no problem.

OK. I'm prepared to take back my earlier comments about Atari support a little bit - perhaps more if what they suggested works, they have finally sent me something a little more helpful as a possible fix for the texture patching.
I have been recommended to uninstall my game, delete all savegames, and then uninstall and reinstall my graphics drivers.
It's going to be a pain, and it's going to be even more of a pain to lose the progress that I've made so far, but, hey! it's a good game - I don't mind doing it all again if I can do it with proper textures this time, and if not, well I'll back up my savegames and just pick up where I left off, poxy textures and all.
:lolblue: if things keep going this way I may eventually be tempted.
Why wait?
Send 'em now..................you know it makes sense.......... :D
@EAF92_Tango
If you do all that and it still doesnt work do you promise not to be cross when you post the result? :confusedb ;)
(Although for that amount of trouble I hope it does)

Fortunately we won't have to find out ... I think.
I take back anything unkind that I said about Atari support. In the end it turned to be me who was the idiot.
I have been told that there is a known problem with KT400 mobo chipsets when used with Radeon cards. I have a KT600 and that also appears to be affected.
It turned out that contrary to my belief, I didn't actually have the Catalyst 5.6 drivers installed - I had tried to install them a while ago and thought I'd succeeded but in fact the drivers had tried to install, couldn't and then rolled back to the previous ones without telling me. I'm not sure but it looks like you have to have SP2 installed to run the 5.6 Catalyst drivers (until today I'd been avoiding installing it).
Anyway, installed 5.6, reinstalled game with patch 1.1 and have started afresh. No plague victims so far and I can read all the signs.
Yaaaay. No I just have to start over from scratch. Ho hum.

Yeah, but think of all the fun you'll have........and think how easily you'll breeze through the bits you were stuck on before............and how you'll enjoy all those little bits you missed the first time around..........oh, you'll really enjoy it...... :weirdblue
(Sorry........I'll shut up now :D )

Have you requested a SLI profile with NVidia for BoilingPoint? I've no experience with SLI yet although I've set up my rig for future extension, just don't want to spend the full monty on two 6800's (GTs) at the moment. If you don't set up SLI properly then it will just use one of your cards, and then you're in the same spot as the rest of us, wondering why this game doesn't really run as smooth as HL2 or Doom3. I'm not too sure you can generate your own SLI profile without NVidia support (and btw why should you, there's a clear NVidia logo in the game so they will support it I'm sure).
Also it'll save me the trouble of having to request it once I've my second card in SLI mode :)
