I got an odd problem with Act of War.
When I try to start a campaine or skirmish the game displays the loadingscreen for a while...about the half...and then just reboots.
No error massages nothing.

I have tried to patch it via the autopatch function and the problem is still their.
Also tried to turn on/of 3D Sound,Internet, firewall or altering the resolution....no luck.

What makes me wonder the most is that I had no problems with the Demo version.

My system is:
P4 3Ghz
1024 MB RAM
Geforce FX 5700
Soundblaster Audigy
Win XP (No Service Pack)
Directx 9.0c

PS:
The thing just got stranger to me...if I reduce the quality (setting all details to LOW) the game starts normaly but looks ugly. Also tried the medium settings and again the system reboots at the beginning of the mission.

In what file are the settings saved so I could make my own custom settings? Most games you have the possibility to do your own settings.

PSS:
Ok I tracked down the problem to the shadow settings. I can now run the game with the following settings.
1280*1024*32
Textures: High
Shadows: Low
Still setting the Shadows to something higher makes my system reboot.

Even if I can play it now...does anyone knows why these problem might happen?

1) Win XP has many issues. Therfore, I suggest you install all Service Packs + all other "high priority" updates on Microsoft website.

To do that : Start -> Windows Update.

2) Try downloading and installing the latest Driver patch for your nVidia 5700 video card. check the link. (after installing SP2)

http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_77.72.html (after installing SP2)

If problem still exists, a reinstalling of the game will work.
If you have fake copy of Windows XP (not original), updating your system to SP2 will result in crashing your entire system and giving you a pain-in-the-asss experience.

Extra:
3) To make all games run faster and smoother on your pc, use your nVidia control program that will be installed on your pc with the drivers to turn off both "v-sync" and "anti-anilasing" options.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

I always get the "your connection has been failed" error when I try to play AoW online. If you know a solution to this problem please post it cause waiting for an answer/response from Atari is almost useless.

Problems seamed to be the graphiccard drivers...forgot that the Battlefield2 demo installed some "new" drivers.
I have just updated the Nvidia drivers and now its running.
The funny thing is...not only does Act of War runs without problems...but also BF2 runs better.
