View Full Version : PSP - first impressions
I was wondering who among you have already a PSP on your hands. Mine is now charging, I'll have to wait for it to complete, then I'll have to insert the UMD for the Operating System update (version 2.0)... I can't wait for the gameplay.
It looks really good, the screen seams to be large enough, and the design is outstanding.
PS-Perhaps we culd meet some day for on-line gaming? I think I'll buy Need for Speed but not quite sure yet. :respect:

Whats the build quality like? Is it built like an Audi or a Lada? How long will it last if you chuck it in a bag every day?
I hear it is very good.
I think you might need a case for it though, like a mobile phone and an ipod - the screen's get scratched too easily.
I hear the games are pretty average though, still - hopefully that is teething problems. It has to be ten times better than the ghastly DS. Horrible... just horrible!
Whoever designed that needs his eyes spooning out, it looks ugly, hurts most peoples hands and is nothing but a gimmick. :anger:

hey i designed that DS  lol jk I like the design though and nintendo games are more inventive and have longer game play then sonys
I have a gamecube, and love the games - very inventive. I just can't help feeling that the DS console's dual screen is nothing more than cheap tricks.
It feels cheap, looks cheap and the games are not that special.
I guess the sony / nintendo debate will go on forever. I know which i'll go for when the next gen consoles come out, and it won't be nintendo.
In the meantime I guess the PSP / DS debate will keep us all amused.

Isn't it strange how the DS was supposed to be innovative, yet only 5 percent of the games actually utilise the stylus effectively, and even less use the dual screen effectively either. rolleyesa

Glad I have a Protected screen :)
there are special Fiber stickers that protect the screen from scratching they come 12 in 1 package and it really help I used it for my first PSP (japanese version) and stil No scratches they are easy removeble and don't leave and marks :)
also the games I now have are
Wipeout Pure
Untold legends
spiderman 2
Ridge racer
Armoured core
Lumines
Coded Arms
Midnight Club 3: DUB
Need for speed underground Rivals
Dynasty Warriors
Metal Gear Acid
Fired Up
Darkstalkers Chronicle: The Chaos Tower
they are al great games (MGS is a bit... getting used to though...)
Coded arms nice but I when I finished it I stil didn't geth why I was shooting evrything in a digitized world the story isn't contineud you only geth a reason why and thats it story finished...
Midnight club dub is a port from the Xbox and PS2 versions
Wipeout pure is nice just plane old Wipeout and just feels great
Fired Up is a game that you could compare with Twisted Metal Black you have a big arena/City where you drive in and shoot al the bady's with the guns mounted on your car :) power ups and the sorts need to be unlocked by findeing scavenger tokens nice though in my opinion :)
Dark stalker is a 2d Beat ehm up feels good intensive grapics and is the only game that doesn't kick your Batt in a fast depletion
Dynasty Wariors is a bit of a disapointment its mision based and only loads small portion of Big battlefields like the once you see on the PS2... kind a bugger for me I hoped for more (although I know its beceause the loading times would have been murder if they did load Full battlefields)
Untold Legends is up to now the only RPG thats out in europe and its nice has a Baldurs Gate kinda feel to it :) and he only thing that makes this one hard is that the loading times could make you snore :p
frownblue i want 1 but i got a ds there rubbish!!! but at £180 it looks like i will have to wait a while :noooo:

is way different from the PS2 versions and the PS vesrsions...
Your a sort of team manager the only thing you can do is promote and upgrade your AC and thats it combats are ditterment automaticly (looks good though :) ) but its to bad you can't control the AC your self :noooo:
ps. with upgrade I mean custom build your AC just like in al the other AC games but thats the only thing you can do so you have the normal suplies of Arms, legs, cores, coolers, weapons, etc you can edit you AC's color just like in AC 3 silent line :) and you can make you own emblem ( you can even save a ... empty emblem on you pro duo stick connect it to you PC open it and edit it 10sur10 That whay I now have some of my anime drawings as Logo on my AC's 10sur10 )

PSP'S RULE!! :atari:
I think I'm going to kill someone. The demo disc they include contains several games, but they aren't playable... So, why they call it "demo disk"?
Plus, I'm unable to find (in my town) a decent game, here the stores only have 4 titles: Fired Up, Everybody's Golf, Medievel and Ridge Racer (all from Sony). I was unable to find Need For Spedd, so I think I'll use the 25% discount to buy a Sony game and an UMD video. I realised if the UMD Video is less then €16 it will become more cheap buy game+video (€49,90+€16)*0,75 < €49,40 :wink2:
Since you liked it, Orion, I'll give it a try... It smells me some on-line action :) Destroy, destroy :)
PS - My opinion on the DS and PSP is that DS is for a younger people, more demanding on the easy playing that on the graphics quality and history, just like another toy. PSP is for a more mature people, who wants games with decent graphics (i showed my PSP to an ex-teacher of mine, who bought a DS for is kid, and he got really impressed with the quality of the screen) and more options (MP3, UMD Videos, etc...) for his pocket :) It's my opinion

Yeha, I just don't understand is why movements like "Mothers against GTA" and others appear. I doubt that someone even thinks of doing a "drive-by" just because he/she saw it in the game. Even small children, which should never have access to the game. I find more violent when you turn on the TV and see afilm, or even the news :wink2:
Of course, I'm talking about ordinary people, not those who have already an "out-law" life...

My local shops are actually pretty good for enforcing the age ratings, although in my Blockbuster down the road, there is one old man, who takes peoples word for it, when they tell him how old they are (without any identification). I've seen kids buying 15-rated games, just by saying that they are 15, when clearly they aren't.

The Cold War started after the end of World War II and only ended with the collapse of the Soviet Union, so we're talking about 1991 lightbulb
You guys need to know some bits of contemporary history, you won't be able to understand the world around you if you don't :nono:
It doesn't need to be boring text books, there are lots and lots of good books around, even some fiction gives a very good picture of the past few decades. For the UK kids, The Rotter's Club by Jonathan Coe is a very good book to get some understanding of what life in Britain was like in the 70's - 80's.
Come on, go out and get yourself a book, you know you want to :bravo:

I think you need to relearn history if you believe that.
Ok the psp will prob have a cold war game for it one day.lol . The psp looks amazing better than the ds and that little pen thing you get with it my friend has lost that some many times and the game are quite bad with out it (and with it to be honest). it's wierd its exciting to see what new game that thay will have on it for such a small piece of tech. unlike the ps3 were i wont be that amazed by whats on it compared to what thay will do with the psp.
I showed today the PSP to a friend of mine and he got really impressed with the screen. So when I put the "SpiderMan 2" UMD video he got really impressed... And yes, the PS3 will be something from another world, with several processors in parallel... Question: if the PS2 allows very good graphics, how about the PS3?
