When i start a new game in Fahrenheit it shows the intro and then the screen goes black, music still playing but no control after a minut or so the game goes from full screen to windowed mode and if i ctrl-alt-del to windows (only option i have) i find this error message from Quantic Dream Tools:

"File BigFile_PC.d02 is locked can't read Call-stack:"
"F8057BE5:"
"F8057BE5:"
"F8057BE5:"
"F8057BE5:"...

Now the thing that really got me puzzled is that the tuturial runs without a glitch in 1600x1200 high settings and when i complete the tuturial the intro shows and then the error appears.
Also i ran the demo without any problems in 1600x1200 high settings.

It don't work in 640x480, low settting either. And reinstalling didn't help. I also tryed copying BigFile_PC.d02 over again manually.
I'm running it on a P4 3GHz, 1024MB RAM, x800XT PE (Catalyst 5.8), WinXP SP2.

Last thing the game does run on my sistors labtop even though after the check it says that the PC dosn't have the minimum requrements for running the game, so it isn't the DVD that are scratched or broken.
I also saw on the labtop that error is before you see Lucas kill the man in the bathroom right when the letters "Fahrenheit" should start to appear.

Note: I sent a report to the techsupport yesterday.

Havn't gotten a reply from Atari yet and the problem is still there.

So here a update on what i tried to get the game going:
1. Reinstalled the game several times on different harddrives, including standart path. Installing the game from both Farhenheit.exe and setup.exe direct from the dvd.

2. Tried tenebra Tips to resolve technical problems. (Didn't help but thanks anyway tenebra)

3. Tried deaktivating enhance mode for my Abit Max3 motherboard (support for 4 IDE devices + 2 SATA devices).

Besides that i just tried to run the game several times and there's proberly some more things i tried but i can't remember them all.

In my first post i said that the tutorial ran just fine, but actually the tuturial also began to freeze and give me the "BigFile_PC.d02 is locked" error this sunday (after a reinstall or restart). Now i'm rarely able to run tutorial.

I did manage to run a new game once today. I restarted windows in selective mode (without startup programs), and uninstalled Fahrenheit, installed it on the default path, and ran the game in 1024x768 high settings (restarting windows between every step in selective mode, and enhance mode was off).
Then i shut the game down and reinstalled it on another drive and havn't been able to run it since. Not even when following the same steps.

I also got some minor error i really don't care about, but maybe they are part of the problem so here they are:
The autostart menu is always in german and i can't install or uninstall the game from the autostart menu.
Error message i get: "Please go to control panel to install and configure system components".
I was able to install from the autorun the very first time i installed the game. But not since.

I attached my dxdiag file and a screenshot of the error.
If any of you have any of the problems i have please post.

Corax, I've contacted the Helpdesk for you and since this doesn't appear to be a spread problem, they think it might be either the disk itself or a driver issue or a lower level system driver.

Things you can try:
1. Try the disk on another pc and see if it works, that would exclude faults with the disk itself
2. Try reinstalling windows XP

Hope this helps :)

Thanks for the reply, i sent a mail to the help desk today myself and i just got a reply from Marcus Bradshaw, took less than 2 hours to reply 10sur10.
He said about the same as you did.

As i wrote in my first post i tried the game on my sistors labtop and it worked fine the first time so it can't be the disc.

About formatting, the thought has crossed my mind but i'm holding back because the tutorial worked and i actully got the game running a single time today and it such a bother to install everything again and upgrade windows.
But if Atari support can't help me i'll proberly be formatting.

I'll be back with progress, if there is any...

mdr1 YES! A BREAKTHROUGH! mdr1

Marcus advice came to good use! :atari:
He suggested i installed the newest Via chipset drivers. I actually though i already had the newest 4in1 installed, but i should have checked anyway it seems. After i installed the newest Hyperion 4in1 drivers everything worked like a charm! :chapeau:
I had the game installed on my c drive so i decided to move it to my game drive and for the first time i also could hear music under the installation, a clear indikation that something had changed, and of course i still worked great after the reinstall.

So now i can join the fun :)

Hello!

Sorry, ich was very busy when writing my last Post, so here a more detailles description: The Error is exactly the same, I get the same message. I also installed the game several times and tried to overwrite or open the BigFile manually. All this didn´t work. It is exactly the same like Corax wrote it. But I have got an Intel i865P Chipset. Does this Chipset also need other drivers? I have no idea what could cause this error, you are my last hope! :noooo:

Thanks, Roman

After writing five Mails to the Atari Support, I now got an answer. THey wrote, I should emulate my Soundcard install the newest ATI drivers, but both didnt solve the problem. Now the game doesn´t even show the Atari and nVidia Vidoes at the beginnning, when I start the game, the screen turns black.
