View Full Version : Should have been my favourite game in years *Spoilers*
Just finished it last night. Absolutely loved it until the story towards the end plumetted from a grown up, genuinely tense, gritty, realistic, intelligent supernatural thriller, to some trash about a flying kung fu monk trying to destroy the world. At this point, every ounce of respect I had for the story went down the toilet. Really really disapointed with that.
Still, loved how the characters were so well fleshed out and it's nice to see a game with real narrative. At least it's a push in the right direction.
I'm not really a games player and haven't bought a game in years but this caught my eye 'cause it looked like one of those PC adventure games they don't make any more.
Quantic really should do something else similar for their next project and try to resist the temptation of incuding a cheesy OTT plotline and inappropriate kung fu fight sequences. And maybe less of the soft porn. Don't think we're quite ready to have this in a games yet without it looking hilarious.
Yeah I agree with you there, it went really dodgy at the end.

I absolutely agree with you that the storyline suddenly plummeted towards the end, after what had been such an enthralling plot too. The game opened so brilliantly as we're thrown into the story and see it develop at a perfect pace but sadly it all begins to wear rather thin as it borrows more and more from famous movies.
It became all too apparent early on that I would have to endure pointless or frustrating button bashing as important scenes played out. I fail to see how the majority of movements required of the player bore any resemblance to your characters on screen actions, taking away any genuine sense of 'interaction'.
Great character development and a hugely enjoyable playthrough, but there's nothing to draw me back to play through it again. There wasn't even a remotely taxing puzzle and I've 'seen it done it' now. Still, I enjoyed it ewnough to comment on it here, if only to say please, please do away with the button bashing and give us a more of a game next time. your not kidding me that this was truly original, we've seen it all with Shenmue.
Yeah all that button bashing brought back fond memories of 'Daily Thompson's decathlon' and all those other classic joystick-destroyers from the 80's. Must have gone through about 5 Quickfire sticks playing that.
Ah the memories.......

At least with Daley Thompson I could understand the need to press 'jump' at a precise moment. Why was it necessary for me to press 'up' 'right' 'right' 'left' 'down' 'up' while I watch a scene with The Oracle and the clan leaders? To keep Lucas in his dream state? What was the point? It feels like at some point, not too far into the game, it became necessary just to get it finished with the minimum of fuss.

Lucas was concentrating, so you had to help him keep him in the "zone". The pressing of buttons is how the game's engine works. The programmers probably decided NOT to make a different system for each of concentration, fighting or dodging and just use one.
The love-scenes were done very well. In fact much more tasteful than what we've seen in some movies that have gone up on the cinema.
The story DID take a wild turn - from gritty realistic day-by-day police/murder story to a dark fantasy. For me it worked and I liked it. It could have been done smoother and taken a little longer time for the transition between realistic to fantasy but overall I liked it and by the time I was introduced to it, I was so drawn into the game that I didn't mind the flying kung-fu and/or running on buildings stuff.
Sure, there is room for improvement, but this game is a step in the right direction of the evolution of the adventure-genre.

Couldn't agree more, only thing that disturbed me a bit although I was deep into the game was the small fact that Carla went from "hello" to "I love you" in 10 min. The love scene could easily been fit in with a more realistic turn of events. But then again, getting things perfect is damn hard. Very satisfied with the game, on my second run through now and I will most likely buy nr 2 if that is ever launched (one can hope).
I agree. It almost seemed rushed at the end. It was just a stark change from the rest of the game.

For all of those complaining about the Lucas/Carla situation, if you look at the dates each of the chapters took place there was actually three months between the time they met at the cemetary and the time that Lucas rescued the Indigo child. Who knows what could have happened between them in those three months.
Spoiler (kind of. How the hell do you hide your text?)
I think they basicly just wanted some hollywood type hero who gets to knob all the chicks. Simple as that.
The romance between Lucas and Carla was completely unnecessary and served no purpose to the development of the story. It would have been different if they had established a connection between the two characters ealier on in the game and developed that throughout the story as two enemys who fall in love. That might have been interesting and would have at least made sense.
They simply stuck this in to get Carla's t*ts out and to make the hero look a little bit cooler.
Straight out the Hollywood rulebook that is.
Yes the game seems rushed at the end just to be released in market in time
1) The final bad guy does not fit with the story
He is so cliche and boring ruining the scenario near the end
2) The relation that happens between the female and the male hero does not fit
She hated him and the suddently ooppsssss!! your lips ar cold as ice  sheessshh...
Women are not like that
When women hate you and even if they start to like you they do not act like that i assure you...and especially in giving "kisses for free" just in sudden...
Not even if he was Brad Pit and not just a average guy
It was so unrealistic ruining the scenario frownblue
These happens only in the typical Hollywood movies (hero always wins the girl or girl falls in love and kiss around) and in fairy tales
I thought these game scenario would be something new and different and more realistic concerning that matters
Lets face it in the real world maybe Carla would probably sympathize the Hero and saw him in a friendly manner (he was innocent after all) but not love him suddently and having a crash on him and kiss him

Hey, missed that detail. Makes more sense. Would have been nice with a longer cutscene there with some more fact though. So that it was evident that some time had passed and they had spent it together.
