hi there

i played the game without a single glitch up to the part where i meet the
expert on mayas, then half way through a diolog his lips where still and the
voice got cut off! i didnt had subs on so i was pretty lost...i stoped, and
re started the chapter but the voice problem mantains, ocasionaly the
characters start talking, but them their faces stand still and the audio trails
off! i turned on sub and tried to push on even without the sound and the gamestalled on the end when i choosed "truth" while talking to him, the
camera got stuck in the security gard, music on but nothing....
so i exited the game...seached the forums for something like this but nobody
complained about anything like this
i already tryed the option "repair" in the uninstall menu, and it stayed the same
i uninstaled the game and re-instaled it and now the problem is on from the first chapter! (and i was stupid enough to lose my savegames)

anybody can help? i have a audigy 2 (i didnt had the latest drivers
but i do now, and its still the same)
Pentium 4 2.4ghz running on an asus p4c800 e deluxe
764mg ddr 333 ram
plenty of space on a sata drive...

thanks in advance!

I'm having the exact same sound problem since playing the demo version.
I thaught it might only be a demo issue but now that I bought the full version it's still there as you described: most dialogues have no audio and the actors' lips do not move - the music goes off during the game's intro just after the lines "original soundtrack by angelo badalamenti" in the title credits apear...

I got a Creamware Pulsar II soundcard, pretty exotic but I've never experienced any problems with it until now.
Graphis is a GForce 4 MX.

So if anyone has any suggestions what to do we would be grateful to hear.
Thanks in advance ... Greetings deR :salut2:

(some episodes more than once) and nothing hapened...weird!

maybe its not a bug..its a "random feature" ;)

Only thing I can think of could be conflict with drivers or hardware.
It sounds both of you have sound cards, if your systems are newer (last 2 years or so) you proabaly have a onboard sound chips.
If you know what your Bios is and located check to make sure onboard sound is off.
Now depending on if your confortable doing this you could take out your sound card and try enabling your on board to test if that fixes your sound problems.
Another thing that possibly coulkd help is do you have updated motherboard drviers, ie VIA requires updates called 4in1 drivers.
I wouldnt suggest at this point upgrading your Bios firmware at this point if you are not having problems anywhere except Fahrenheit.

thats a good point, regarding the onboard sound, i have it off, and never had
any kind of problem with anything else...but i think it has 2 do with the game it self!

reason : not only theres no sound, but theres no facial animation!and the music continues to play...yes i know its most likely a whole diferent channel, but still the fact is that the game stops the facial animations as well has the sounds the caracters are suposed to be doing.

i've been thinking about it, and heres a chance, since there's plenty of dialogs, and that it they are made using the game graphic engine insted of a video sequence, its most likely that the facial animation is a algorythm of some sorte, wich analyses the audio file (or maybe a file atached to the audio) to creat the movement of the faces, in a sort of a dependent way...so the problem might not even be the sound, but that perticular visual algorythm failing in some very specific conditions...

off course i know nothing of the way the game has been coded...this is just "guessing"...maybe im just an idiot :p

Well those are good ideas and maybe true but nothing we have control over fixing, if I understand you.
So we need to focus on what will get you game going so you can finish :)

I never reallly paid much attention to the Facial Animtions, since HL2 I mostly realise most devs do the best they can and I live with it.

Well one thing you didnt mention or I missed, video drivers and overclocking?
Also did you try as last resort of backing up your savegames and reinstalling?

When I first tried to play the demo, the audio worked for about the first half minute and then it was all off-synch with only the last half or so of sentences being audible and such. I restarted the demo but that didn't help, so I rebooted the computer and that worked fine. I've had to do this with other games too, from time to time, and it seems to do the trick. Tron 2.0 did that same incomplete/out of synch audio to me a bunch of times. I have a SB Audigy. Sometimes rebooting doesn't work, and I've had to reinstall the sound driver, which is pretty easy just uninstall it from device manager and reboot, it all goes back to defaults and things work properly again. With the actual full game, I don't recall this happening, but if it did, I rebooted and it went away. Try removing your sound card driver from device manager and rebooting, that can fix a lot of stuff.

Could be a conflict with your motherboard if it is a VIA chipset.
Did you install the EAX3 or 4 (cant remember how high it is now) as well as the newest drivers?
If your not sure if you have VIA, post what motherboard you have if you do have one you should be up to 5.00 4 in 1 drivers.
You could also try disabling your sound card and trying your onboard sound for a day or 2 to see if it stops your problem.
Also your video drivers could be conflicting with your motherboard, if you want to post which video card you have and drivers, that would help figuring out the problem .

No, my chipset is SiS, nothing integrated except the NIC. Chipset driver, AGP driver, and BIOS revision are the highest available. I've had this type of sound issue with a few games, and messing with the audio driver has always led to resolution. I don't recall what EAX I currently have, but in the past that has usually been the culprit. Sometimes I'll close a game and the stupid EAX filter is still reverbing all audio on the system. SB is notorious for crummy drivers, so I've just lived with it because it doesn't happen very often. I had similar problems with a whole different motherboard and video card, but the same sound card, or the Live! that I used before that. Still SB, that's what's been in common when I've had these kinds of problems. If audio is cutting out or otherwise being weird, a quick reboot (or audio driver reset if needed) and it doesn't happen again for a long time.. So no big deal really. I was just offering my experience as a possible solution to what others have had happening.

PS: Video card is GeForce 4 Ti4600, but I don't think it's involved in my problems. Other than the first time I ran the demo, and maybe once in the full game (but I can't really remember), it's been just fine, and I've finished the game and started over and it's all fine.

Ahh I have been wondering if the game was running on directx8 video cards, good news.
You might try turning down the sound and video settings to the lowest possible setting as a test.
I even think there is an option to turn off eax, I know you certianly dont want to play at the lowest settings.
I have you run your dxdiag, that could give you a heads up to any conflict as well as current status of drivers.
