Why is it that the US version has been patched for a bunch of the Errors that we keep getting on the UK version see : http://www.ataricommunity.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=386&order=desc
Yet we are still waiting?
Come on Atari where is our patch? I'm tired of playing then sudden Crashing to Desktop or Locking up for no reason after 2 - 4 Hours of play.
Especially seems the damned Game doesn't come with an AUTOSAVE.

Is seems that this UK/US divide is becoming more apparent with every game that is released. Surely our money is as good as theirs regardless of where we live.

Sadly it appears Atari just do not care about people in Europe.
They do care.........it just takes longer for a Euro patch...... :noooo:

I've returned my copy to Game after getting too many crashes. I'll probably pick it up again once a patch is released (the Game store told me they'd exchange within a few days, but wouldn't allow an open return after a week).
They do care.........it just takes longer for a Euro patch...... :noooo:
Why is that?
Perhaps, it is because the code in the Euro version is more convoluted and difficult to patch.
Perhaps, European coders are thicker!
Perhaps, they don't give a monkey's after all.
No, its because they usually have to cope with more languages and other country specific problems........ :noooo:

The moral would seem to be - order the US version on the internet.
Because, the characters in the videos all spoke with New York accents, and I understood every word. Apart from the usual colonial spelling mistakes, and some adenoidal intonation, I don't suppose the differences will bother me a bit, and you get the benefit of support of course. Or am I missing something?

The US verions often have content removed, that the European censors leave in. rolleyesa
Also you sometimes ending up paying import tax :noooo:

The PEGI rating was 3+ on my box, we have to suppose that anyone under that age is almost incorruptible anyway. Toddlers like naps and food, not real time simulations. So, it's hard to see what even the most puritanical censor could remove, besides there is no censorship of software in the UK. :nono:
Readers will be relieved to note that VAT is not assessed on imported items invoiced at less than £35, which will include most games - especially discounted. :bravo:
I have bought software from the USA in the past, the benefits are :
Earlier release dates.
Cheaper prices
Better availablity of patches
European benefits :
Let the damn yanks try it out first
Reassuringly expensive
Lovingly hand crafted patches that take into account our rustic use of language, and other 'Old World' idiosyncracies.
besides there is no censorship of software in the UK. :nono:
The introduction of controversial games featuring photo-realistic images, such as Mortal Kombat and Night Trap, led to calls from the tabloid press for games fall under the Video Recordings Act. The UK games publisher trade body ELSPA responded by introducing a voluntary age rating system in 1994. The ELSPA ratings were succeeded by the pan-European ratings system, PEGI, in 2003. However, although games are generally exempt from the Video Recordings Act, those depicting sexual content, or gross violence towards people or animals, must still be submitted to the BBFC for consideration.
And, much as it pains me to say it, its not just the UK..........games and patches come in US and Euro flavours, so they might need 5 or 6 language updates...... :noooo:

Come on who ever is doing a patch. I sit down to have a good play on TCNY and after 30 mins it crashes. It very very annoying to say the very least.
I have a good spec PC, lots of memory and a fairly decent graphics card. Performance isn't a problem but it seems crappy code is.
It is really really spoiling getting into the game.
I see on the Smiles there is no Atari get you finger out and sort it icon... weirdblue grrr
And its a shame there isnt one for 'Deep Red are working on it'....... :bravo: 10sur10
I know its frustrating, but please be patient...... :respect:

You know what I mean.
I get loads of Tycoon games and I have to say this is the first one that has totally crashed whilst playing it in a long time. As you say I hope its sorted out soon. :noooo:

So that is the long awaited much sought after European patch is it - My advice - Do not bother wasting time downloading it. OK - gameplay is slightly improved - but that was not the problem. Graphics are improved - but that was not the problem. When I came to close down - same old problem.
Game is destined for the nearest Charity shop at the weekend. A total waste of Money.
Unfortunatelly game crashes even after patched. I have to save game after just 5 minutes of playing!. Totally unplayable.
Unfortunately for me too, the game won't even load, this is on a fresh XP SP2 install, 1gb mem, Geforce 6800GX system.
Patching it with the Euro patch yields no luck, the starts to load and the sponsor logos come up, but then we get to the black and white logo and then we get graphical corruption.
Tried several drivers including: 81.94, 81.95, 81.98, 84.xx WHQL's. No joy.
Additionally, I sometimes get the error that the graphics card is not supported.
A total waste of money.
