This game is shaping up nicely, but first impressions from the demo, it is feeling alittle like EA's NFSMW and the sense of depth isnt really showing in the demo (all but the Huge size of the Island).
It would have been great to have tried out a motorbike too, but for now I am pleased.
I am very worried that there is no mention of tunning, please update us on this A.S.A.P.
Alot of work is needed, to be done on the 'getting caught by cops situation', as it is currently it is far to easy to be caught!
It would also be nice if we could flash our headlights (i couldnt see this option)
Dont let this game fall down the arcade (bargain bin) pit!
Thanks for the Demo Atari :atari:

loving the speed aspect to game it feels like your doing 190+ in lambo, dont like the way the flowerbeds are like buildilngs and stop you dead, are the servers gonna be available soon? i know what you mean by the arcade feel to it, but the physics of the car in the air seem to be right.
it also looks like you`ll be able to see other people while your in your own race, meaning i thought you would go to a private room to race, dont like the mental green line in multiplayer races, something else needs to be done to mark the course out i think.
(atari scratches head, thinks i know we`ll change that in 3months.....not)
it just gives you a driving line why not put on sides of road not racing line, i hope that can be switched off.
ala in all given a good taste of whats to come, and you never know they may even unlock other parts to demo as we get nearer to release day.

To flash your lights just press the A button. That's how you get them to do Quick Challenge. Press in the right thumbstick to beep the horn.
I thought the demo was good, considering the pop up, being caught too easily by the police as mentioned, drivers being too far into their seats and the lack of a handbrake animation.
I did enjoy the changing gears animation, mostly in the GT500 and Lotus. And sound wise I thoroughly enjoyed the roar of the Shelby GT500's engine when you first start out. The other two cars sound impressive also.
I done a quick challenge this morning and the car I was against (Ferrari) didn't seem to move. Like it was stuck, then it seemed to reset itself but didn't move that much. I tried it again later and it seemed to be okay.
I thought the interiors weren't as visually pleasing as some of the videos and screenshots, but hopefully that gets sorted out, and I realise that they may have limited the quality somewhat as it is only the demo. The time limit is okay on Single Player but not when you get online. You'd be in the middle of a race when the host goes, or your demo time limit is up.
I'm hoping the distance you can set a track is a lot more in the full game.
Apart from the few little annoyances it seems to be shaping up quite well.
The gearshift animation alone beats the one in PGR3.

all in all shaping out to be a good game must say though the cars seem a little to light in the corners and do come off the ground a bit ott not saying they shouldnt do this but maybe mellow it down a little.
also have people found while manual shifting the gears the auto snaps back into it and is to intrusive e.g traveling at 60 in 5th just mellow driving so you dont really get the engine noise is nice the changing down a few cogs yourself to overtake is so satisfying but the auto kicks down the gears for you so the engine is always in its highest revs for its gear so you cant just mellow drive round in high gear.
:atari: love it keep up the good work we all know you need to iron some bits out and im geussin thats what the demo is for to get feed back, its ace just keep on plugging away :chapeau:

pause game go to options then game options and under gearbox select manual i have no promlem doing what you want as thats how i like to play sometimes just chilling out sticking with the traffic and speed limits
hope that helps m8.
o and it doesnt save the setting so you need to select manual everytime you play the demo which get annoying

If you set your Game Defaults (in the Xbox Guide) to Manual it will default to manual transmission each time you run the game. Too bad they don't let you change the control options in the game though (I prefer right-stick throttle and brake with shoulder button gears).

You can also adjust how close you sit to the wheel by going into the options menu. Very cool.
The demo was pretty good, but it left more questions about the game. I saw that it used the Havok engine, but the only damage that was done was to other cars, is there going to be damage to your car that effects the loooks and performance? Also in the demo you could not do a challenge to another car, would take you to a screen where you could do a track, but not allow placing. It would have been nice to have the demo allow you to purchase a car or two with some options so you could see how that worked. The in-car view is awesome. Each car did handle different. The outside camera should show the slides better and not follow so perfect, makes you feel that you are controlling the camera and the car is just there for show. Also I lost my Internet connection last night and when I was offline playing the demo the cops actually chased me if I caused too much damage, but when I was online a message came up and gave me a ticket without a change of running, like in offline. If you are going for that sim like feel you need to address the camera and add realistic damage, visual and performance.

You can challenge another car in the demo. Press A, that flashes your lights at them. You have to be close to them though.
And when the screen comes up with the map and the starting line you move the cursor to where you want to race to end, or to have a checkpoint.
Press A, and move on a bit further until the message comes up that asks you to confirm the outlay.
I had a few problems with them racing me as they'd seem to get stuck at the start and reset themselves and move slow.
But the next time that I loaded it up, it seemed to be fine.
I have had a few 1vs1 races, but sometimes I cant create my route
Have you tried the bigger races? If you go to one of the race meet up points, you can create, or join a lobby, and I had a race with 3 other people :)

My first impressions on this game are a definate 2 thumbs up. You do have to give it more than 5mins to get a feel for what this game is about, The graphics are superb considering how big this game is gonna be. Suprised me how much detail was in just the 40miles of the demo. I love the depth of it all.
Secondly, the handling, nothing wrong with it at all. I think many are too used to the arcadeyness of PGR (not saying its bad, because its a brilliant game) TDU has a nice feel to it, a mixture of sim and arcade and im happy with this balance.
The sound is truely fantastic. Geniun ROAR from the engine and the tonal change from different views etc, brilliant.
The 15min time limit is anoying as when I start to get really into it exploring and multiplayer games it cuts in, but, aside from that, the playability of this game is on a vast level.
The racing is great fun too, Ive had quite a few multi races and they have been histerical fun.
Only thing that bugs me a bit really is the police, they can stop you too easily, and you cant exactly put up a fight when your going slow which is a shame, trying to escape is fun, but unless your shifting they`ll just stop you with ease.
I thought this game was coming out in June, but now im seeing different, gutted about that, but then I will 110% be buying this on day one. Its gonna be fantastic fun. This is the test drive I always dreamed off back in the day of the Amiga Test Drive 1/2 :atari:
