I haven't seen a topic like this yet, but in my recent play through of the demo there where no police chases. It seems I can get badges, but there is no radio talk or police cars following me on my radar. Once you get three badges however (badges fade away after about 30 seconds) a blue bar, similar to the 'loading bar' appears and reads somthing on the lines of: "you recieved a ticket of : 700". The more often you hit the limit, the higher the fines go.
I can understand that in MOOR, it would be difficult to have police cars given the complications, but it seems so unbeliviably awsome when the demo first came out. In a sense, why show candy then take it away? I hope Atari reconsiders and includes police chases again, fine tuning the bugs out, as well as clearing any of the problems that had it removed in the first place.

Thrash by a cop car at 180mph, nothing, drive along side at the same speed as him on the wrong side of the road, nothing, reverse in front of them on the road, nothing, it's only when you hit them or other car(s) do they become interested. Now I've read why this is and personally if that's all the police are going to pursue you for then I would prefer them not to be there. What's the point really ? You can have a 10 minute pursuit, crash loads of times, kamikaze cops stop your car, wrecking his in the process, your car is pristine and you get a .......$500-$1000 fine and are sent on your way. Whooooopppeee!! !!
If the police actually policed then I would say hell yeah keep them, but just now they're just renegade citizens.

Now then, we play video games for a reason right? tonguegre
Would you consider it fun if the police had helicopters on you so you couldn't escape? Lose all your 20,000 in one shot becuase you accidently (or purposely) crashed into three cars?
Really now. I know the cops had problems but it was a brilliant idea, all it needs is some coarse, and fine tuning.

I know what you're getting at, but when you see this virtual living breathing world (trees sway, wires move, leaves blow across the road etc..) and the living lifestyle that they have integrated into the full game, it just seems a waste to have a real world entity that does virtually nothing. In most games with police, you blast by a cop way over the speed limit you get pursued, you're doing crazy stuff directly in front of the police you get chased. You cause a ton of damage, you get more than a slapped wrist, something like it totals your damage caused and then has you pay some of it, or they impound your car or you lose your car in the most severe cases.
I know the game still has to be fun and all but I used to love toying with the police in other games and then getting a chase started only to either a) Lose them and hear them on the radio saying crazy stuff or b) Get caught and curse and swear but still enjoyed the chase.
I guess it's a win/win to leave them in but don't have them do anything until neccesary. Ah well game will still be fun regardless .... I hope. j/p ;)

Yeah they had it were if you don't stop at stop signs, or on wrong side of road you get chased(They should have done this in GTA, but maybe for the PS3 next gen one ). Which was very specific, but of course licensing issues halted that. Therefore cops only chase you if you damage property.

Now we're on target. I guess we can both agree now that police chases are a good idea, all it needs is some refinement. I can agree with you on a larger fine, but for the start off racer it would be an issue. The progressive fines should larger in my opinion and there could be some consequences for repeat offenders other than fines. I say could as police are there for a reason, to mess with; If I lost my newly bought car, I would be... hmmm how do I say this? This is also a problem if I don't have enough money to purchase another car, for the starting racer, this would be a huge turn off. This goes especially for the 13-15 bracket, a key demographic despite what most attribute them with.

about penalties other than fines for repeat offenders, the new interview on gamespot says that you can get thrown in the slammer if you cannot pay a fine given to you by the cops, maybe you can get locked up for repeat offences, interview is here: http://uk.gamespot.com/xbox360/driving/testdriveunlimited/media.html
