similar to the thread on atari US forums: http://www.ataricommunity.com/forums/showthread.php?t=525266&page=1
Ok i know TDU v1 hasnt been released yet, and that with atari's future in question there may not even be another one (source (http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/articles/712/712687p1.html))
but where do you think would be a good location for the next TDU?
bearing in mind that the current location takes up almost half the disk space then it would seem that we are limited to a space of NO MORE THAN 40x40 miles, that is basically the size of anglesea, isle of man or the channel islands.
my suggestion is: Malta (lovely place in the mediteranian, beutiful seas, great enviroment)
any other ideas
(please stay on topic, or flame me for making a 'pointless topic', you claim to be bored, how about a little entertainment!)
What if there was a TDU for pc and Ps3, but not for 360? Then you could have hugggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggge islands!
O'ahu must be more that 40 miles². It is at least 30 miles x 20 miles = 600miles²
Or am I dumb and thinking of something different?
Not america, I'm getting bored of their in games. Europe or australia or even New Zealand would be pretty cool though. I'd love Europe though for Germany with it's autobahns and of course the Nurburgring and right next door is Belgium with it's crazy roads and SpA Francorchamps !!
And yes Blu-ray and HD-DVD would be sweeeeeeeeet for this type of game but I imagine the development and designing as well as creation would take a fair bit of time unless they subcontracted work out. 30-50Gb is a lot of space to fill on one disc !!

no i think you are right, my mistake, i meant no bigger than 40miles x 40miles

as nice as it would be to take advantage of huge storage of Blu-ray, you have to remember that the developers STILL have to make the island, Creating Vast amounts of land takes vast amounts of time!
if you would be willing to wait 6 years of development for a sequel then your a better man than I!

How about paris? Amsterdam? Brussels? Frankfurt? Rotterdam?

nice thoughts, but mainland cities aren't that nice, you need to have invisible barriers , which suck.(unless you can create the whole of the attatching land, as in europe, africa, asia) Mainland cities = Bad, Islands = Good

Why not a whole European island with famous landmarks and recognisable to the world.
Hmmmm...... maybe england perhaps :)

i take it you don't live in England.
Sales would be amazing if they made a whole country on one game. It would be a new record! Everyone in England(/UK!) would buy a copy just to see they're local area/town

I'd really love to see Australia. But only 1 major city could be incorporated, unless you included Melbourne and Adelaide and the distance between would still take some space.
But yes, Australia for teh win! mdr1
How about just the north east? Then to add the the realism, you could have chavs throwing bricks into your windows as your drive by! And Mackems fighting with Geordies at football games, and..... I think I better shut up now

No Europe I think, because I already live in Europe you have seen very much and only autobahn would be after a while boring, I think they have to take for the next time something like the whole world!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bluray reads slower than DVD9. Yes it has more storage but I doubt it would load as seamlessly without a further graphical degrade.
About PC, I'm not sure bluray games are for the PC. Either that or Eden decides to make a massive download or sells external HDDs.
Well, I'd reserve the next TD for future console generations. To come out with the next installment within a year is a betrayal to those who spent the time accumulating parts and such (online community/msp purchasables). Not to mention a new storage device that would allow for larger land masses.

The only problem with Australia is that it would take several days to get between the citys, and that would start to get a bit boring!!! But otherwise a good idea! Anyway in 6 weeks time i'm leaving this forum for 3 weeks as i'm going to Australia and New Zealand!! I can't wait to go bungie jumping and scooba diving in the Great Barrier Reef!!!

I think New Zeeland would be great, its an island but not as big as Australia. Also it features many different types of nature.

The thing is fuse, you could have a huge game for pc, with 4 DVDs, the just install t and not have to change dics, couldn'tyou? Just you would need alot of free disc space.

How about Japan...? That are 4 islands, then connect them with bridges. :)
Then, we can race against each other in Tokyo without having those silly invisible walls that are in that other realistic racing game on the X360... :p
Maybe just having one of the islands of Japan? Still, the one with Tokyo is wayyyyyyy to big, maybe one of the little ones :)

You are correct, but then again, we are talking about the next Test Drive game. Wich should be bigger and better. I think Japan would be the perfect place. And it's more realistic than America or such stupid ideas (I believe that America is a little bigger than Japan, don't you?).

Yeah, but its not just size that plays a factor. It's licensing, and modelling building after building will get old. People will get bored of the narrow streets, and with traffic like In-Game Oahu's, it'll be unrealistic.

Got disk space? Gigabytes upon gigabytes that is.
Florida!!!!! That would be kool , or just the florida keys. Or jersey and gurnsey , with a ferry between the two.

You don't understand the word 'seamless' eh? tonguegre
Think online now, "cool, lets go up that hill and.. ahh i'm paused, gotta switch discs" There are more complications as well such as race tracks and what not.
Many games have more than one disc. The Sim 2 has 4, so does Age of the Empires. You have to load te discs on and use the first disc to play the game. Once the game has been installed, you never have to switch discs ever again.

Point taken. Still, the console market isn't one to alienate. Racing tends to be for consoles as much as RTS is for the PC. Sure the pc can have joystick and force feedback wheels, but the majority of racing games are on consoles.

Yes, I do. 150gb right now, WoW only takes up 5gb, and that is a huggggge game.

Of course because console controllers are the prime use of racing with analog. Most people don't want to shell out $50 for a wheel to play games like Most Wanted, and what not.
OT: But because the Mouse makes aiming perfect, the PC does remain the top choice for FPS'.

exactly, try playing worms 4 console version, then play PC version, PC version is A LOT easier to aim with!

well, consider this, In an early interview, a develpoper said there is no chance of more places to drive as downloadable content, as the island itself takes up 4gb, with the rest of the game on top of that, i can see a VERY long install!!!

what constitutes a "long install" WoW didnt take long for me...
anyways, i they were to come out with a TDU2, i think having it in japan would be cool. i wouldnt want it to be exotic cars anymore but more like 350Z's and RX-8's but with tons of custimizations possible. enough to stomp on anything you could do in NFS. that would be fun
my .02
 By the time TDU2 will come out, it will feature land the size of the UK or global warming would have happened, one of those two.
