Right, i'm starting to make an FAQ about test drive unlimited, as i am bored of n00bs who can't use the search feature asking questions that have been asked and answered over and over again, however to compile an FAQ i will probably need help, firstly, questions, if you have a question that has been asked lots of times, put it in this thread, if you could include an answer to that question, it would be even better!
aswell, what about helping, if someone wants to help me more directly than just submitting a question, then you can PM me, email me, or add me to MSN (my email and IM usernames are in my profile)

For a start then!!
you will not be able to see the roof of you car (if convertable going up and down) however you can mod your car to be a convertable, if it's an option on the original model!
You cannot put vinals on your car!
the windscreen wipers will not work becasue there will not be rain in the game, nor will the indicators work!
You can flash your headlights and this will attract signify to other players that you want to race!
Night time racing will not exist!
MagicFr who is in charge of controls does plan to try to support all versions on controller including H shifters and 900 degree wheels!!
and finally Lwsbrk is Welsh!

Test Drive Unlimited Frequently Asked Questions (F.A.Q.)
What is the game called?
Test Drive Unlimited
Who is making it?
Eden game studios, Lyon, France, (the same company that made the V-rally series and Need for speed: porsche unleashed/2000)
What kind of game is it / what genre is it?
first and foremost, it is a racing game, however it goes deeper than conventional racing games, you can also style your character (more detail below) [will be added later]
Where is the game set?
Oahu, it is the most developed of the islands of hawaii, the most widely reckognised landmark on oahu is pearl harbour (the place where Japan started their war with the americans in world war 2) the whole island is in the game, which is about 30 miles between furthest north and furthest south, and 20 miles between furthest east and thurthest west
thats roughly 600 square miles worth of island, all of the major roads on the island are also accurately simulated, that is roughly 1063 miles of open road for your free-roaming pleasure!

how is that making something up?
We know that convertables will not be able to 'convert' after purchased. We know that if you purchase a convertable with no top, then it will always have no top.
And the PC Demo bit was a joke. hence the 'lol'

Test Drive Unlimited Frequently Asked Questions (F.A.Q.)
What is the game called?
Test Drive Unlimited
When is the release?
Xbox 360 version is released early september 2006, Pc, version will be released next (around october) PSP and PS2 versions will be released afterwards (around November)
what platforms is it being released on?
In order of release: Xbox 360, Pc, PS2, PSP
Who is making it?
Eden game studios, Lyon, France, (the same company that made the V-rally series and Need for speed: porsche unleashed/2000)

What weather effects are there?
Unfortunately, all the weather in the game is in the sky, and it stays there, even though it is raining in the original trailer, there is no precipitation (i.e. rain, snow, hail, sleet etc.) in the game itself. fortunately, the weather in the sky can compensate slightly for the lack of time effects, for example, a dark cloud covering the sky can give an immpression of night time.
what are the physics like?
The developers have tried to create a good balance of simulation and arcade, (which apparently is rather hard to get to grips with at first) however if you want to get a good idea for yourself, connect to xbox live, look under the E3 2006 section of the marketplace, and there should be an interactive demo of test drive unlimited, aswell there are numerous rumors of a Pc demo coming soon, watch this space...
What seperates TDU from other games in the racing genre?
TDU is a game that brings the best aspects of all your favorite games, puts them together, then adds some more fantastic features, the setting is open and vast like in a Grand theft auto game, the performance custimisation of forza or gran turismo, the police of need for speed: most wanted (and most test drive games throughout the entire history of the franchise!) and the character customisability of the sims2, then it brings in new aspects, like being the first game to accurately model an area of such vast proportions, then you have another huge advance in racing games, Motorcar versus motorbike races. i dont think there is any other game that has licenced cars vs licenced bikes, so the experience of racing each other should be fantastic, i mean, the race starts, the lightweight bike gets the acceleration advantage, then the car blasts ahead with the extra power, the car driver thinks he is away and carefully takes the corner when the bike comes rocketing in through the tinyest of gaps between the car and the edge of the road and overtakes, imagine the exitement!
Just 2 things :) I think in "What kind of game is it / what genre is it?
first and foremost, it is a racing game, however it goes deeper than conventional racing games, you can also style your character (more detail below)",
that you should mention it is a M.O.O.R..
Also in the release dates, the PC is due to come out in October

How about if the graphics and sounds of the latest code can compare to the final code of any other racer.

lets not forget the FREE ROAM online with other players also cruising around the same island as you. I think thats why they call it Massively Open Online Racing game.

The developers have tried to create a good balance of simulation and arcade,
Was that the plan, So it is classed as a arcade racer.
craigie22
02-07-2006, 00:30
the original plan was to make it simulation but they scrapped that because the conroller wouldn't allow what they wanted to do and they realised it wouldn't be for everyone. They have now added a choice where you can choose to drive with or without driving aids so it appeals to more people

Yeah the 360 controller is a load of donkey.... The A button should be touch sensitive because i hate using them top paddles for throttle, it's a right no go for me.

02-07-2006, 00:38
in the full game there is an option to use the buttons to accelerate and brake like on the PS2 if thats what you meant.
And also, i rest my thumbs on the buttons wen racing (cos they're not used) so if they would be permently handbraking round the track if they were touch sensitive like an iPod lol

No i meant like the PS2 buttons are touch sensitive meaning if you press them gently you will move slow and if you press them hard your gunna go flat out, with the 360 controller you press the buttons and its just one speed flat out and spin off into a fire ball, correct me if im wrong please

The buttons are digital controls.... on or off. This is the same on the PS2 and the 360. - They may give the illusion of being 'touch sensitive' by varying the acceleration dependant on how long you hold the button down, but there is no difference whether you press them with a feather, or with a hammer.
The 360 triggers (which control the accelator and break) are analog controls
(like the joysticks), i.e. pull halfway, get half throttle. :respect:

On the ps2, you can lightly press the X button to go slow and if you press it hard, it will accelerate.

Sorry i think you will find you are wrong, so you don't own a PS2 then it seems or never have, The PS2 buttons are touch sensitive and it's not how long you hold em for its how hard you press em for, On GT4 and other car games you could hold the cars at the rev you required with the amount of pressure you applied to the X button.

That is what i said. It is true.
I prefer the right analog stick though.
