But will lag be a problem with 1000-odd people cruising round the same map?

well it depends on what you mean if you mean in the game offline there is no lag because it runs at so many frames per second
if you mean on xbox live then it depends on how fast your internet is and how good your connection is

Lag will only be a problem dependent on the 16 people that you are viewing at one time!!

I have to say, when you go to the race meet up, whoever is hosting, it lags real bad :)

But doesn't the game still have to keep track of where the other 1000-odd people are in the game?
