Sat in the DB9 and Vantage at the motor show yesterday.(First people on the stand woo , got some great pics) And i must say, astons are so much nicer inside than ferrari's. We got the DB9 and Vantage broucher's. They are very nice. The DB9 is probably my favourite car now. (Sorry Corvette :noooo: )

My god. I really don't think Ferrari would let someone test drive one of their cars who had your state of maturity. I also note that, if you were telling the truth, which is unlikely, you haven't tested any Astons and therefore you aren't qualified to make a judgement about the handling.

And Drifting_King, they look (by your own admission) slightly similar. And that is my point - Astons do not look the same, if you take the time to look at them more than just in passing.

I saw an Enzo at the motor show. And to be honest, I was also surprised at how cheap and plasticky it looked. I mean, I don't doubt the mind-blowing performance but it just doesn't look as good as I thought it would. Same with the Pagani Zonda actually, but the one I saw was stale yellow. Lovely.

Sound isn't everything though. Look at the V8 Vantage for example. A truely glorious stochatto grumble, but somewhat let down by looking fairly similar to the others in the current line-up, and not being able to fully put all of its power down.

The Aston because of the Luxury, but that's about the only thing it got going. In about every other aspect they are behind. Well, desing is a matter of taste - I like the Ferrari's better, because they have a bigger variety where the Astons are designed with the same features everytime.

Ferrari make fun cars, cars for the road and the track, the 360CS and the Porsche GT3RS are crazy fun but are not for everyday. If I had the money I would get Gallardo Spyder for everyday driving and a 360CS for the weekend and track. Ferraris overall.

Aston Martin have settled themselves too far into the GT leagues to even try to compete with Ferrari these days. LeMans doesn't count. Unlike the Aston Martins who are factory backed, there's only 1 F430 and that's only supported through Ferrari of Houston.

Road comparisons aren't really too fair as the only comparable cars today are 612, and the 599 GTB, the only GT cars available from Ferrari (though I'm pretty sure the Maranellos would have had their own wins). The F430 would absolutley dice the DB9, but I won't count the Vanquish S. The Vanquish is near it's own death bed already.

SO, in comparison, here's some stats for the Astons Vs. the 612.

Ferrari 612 Scaglietti:
540Bhp V12
0-60 in 4.3
0-100 in 9.4
Quarter Mile set in 12.5@119Mph

Aston Martin DB9:
444Bhp V12
0-60 in 4.5
0-100 in 10.3
Quarter Mile set in 12.9@112Mph

The V8 Vantage stats aren't needed since they're just a tad slower than the DB9.

They're close, but the Ferrari would still have the F1 technology from Ferrari on it's side.
The Vanquish S is a 520Bhp V12, but its weight hurts its times.

Though, if I wanted GT car with looks on it's side, I'd probably still go with 612 or Vanquish S. I don't really care for the DB9's interior, esp. not the wood grain I always see in them. I prefer the wheel styling and interior work of the Vanquish S as well. The wheel looks sportier, I've got more power, and an interior that screams high performance sports car. Basically, the Vanquish is about as close to the supercar league as Aston's got. I'm sure the Vanquish S could give the 612 a reasonable hard time on the race track. But the GT 599 GTB is just too much for an Aston Martin.

So, Ferrari's for the track.
Aston's Vanquish S for the driveable sports car in everyday use. The 612 is great, but the S does have a better line.

I love Ferrari's. The Astons are nice, but the road versions are more smooth, and less harshness.

The Ferrari kicks its butt though, performance, presence, looks, and most of all, the Italian quality. Im not sure how some people can say that the Astons are nicer inside, as i quite disagree. Having been in plenty of AM V8s, DB9s, 575, 360, F430 and the 599GTB (which is lovely), i'd say Ferrari do a nice finish, but on par with Lamorghini, and Mercedes are some of the best finishes i have seen. :)

You can't really compare them to be honest. Aston Martins are top of the range GT cars, whereas Ferraris are sports cars. The only true GT car that Ferrari make is the 612, and frankly I'd have a DB9 or a Vanquish over that any day.

Aston might as well buy Jag if they where a induvidual company (but there not unfortunately, owned by someone else etc..). Personally, Jaguars dont do anything for me, I liked the XKR Convertible, but the rest just dont do anything for me, and i definately wouldnt buy one. I saw a new XK the other day, and it just doesnt have the looks that the Aston does.

You can compare any car to another at the end of the day, but its whether its fair, and each car / manufacturer has their own characteristics, so the cars are going to be different.

well its almost like, to be honest, whats the point of the two car manufacturers, they'd be better merged into one, if they are using the same designer, which with the new XKs has shown, they are using more characteristics from the Astons design.

I mean, if Aston and Jag made two identical cars what would you buy. I'd buy the Aston, because of the name and history of Aston.

But i know its not all that case, its due to prestige and the history of the two manufacturers.

Every car featured in TDU is beautiful in their own way. Look deeper than the metal and you can see passion and expense. You can see where your money has gone. You can see that what I am saying does indeed make sense despite it being deep and all that. Anyway, who says you cannot like Ferraris and Astons together? Speaking the truth here......

One thing that annoys me, is that people fall in love of a car, and think nothing can beat it, nothing can top its looks and quality. Well, actually, there is something that can. Fair enough if you like a car, but you should respect and accept the the engineering and quality of other cars. Otherwise, your just plain bias, it would be as if you designed the car yourself.

well its almost like, to be honest, whats the point of the two car manufacturers, they'd be better merged into one, if they are using the same designer, which with the new XKs has shown, they are using more characteristics from the Astons design.

I mean, if Aston and Jag made two identical cars what would you buy. I'd buy the Aston, because of the name and history of Aston.

But i know its not all that case, its due to prestige and the history of the two manufacturers.

Because if they did that, Ford wouldn't make any money off the Jaguars, and Aston would get complaints of the Jaguars.

The F430 looks so much like the 360 because it is the successor of the 360. If the 360 Modena/Spyder was one of Ferrari's best selling cars, why not keep a similar bodystyle?

Astons, I must disagree, do look the same. They all share that same style. Long hood, cockpit, short trunk.

I must disagree on Jag. Vs. Aston. If you're going to knock Aston Martin for Ford parts, you better knock Jaguar because both companies use Ford.

Overall, I must prefer Ferrari (perferably, the Maranellos).
I chose the Maranello as the candidate given I love it out of most Ferraris and its a GT car.

Styling wise, it is Ferrari. While I love the Vanquish S, the Ferrari's design is more suitable for me. The Maranello interior is also oh, so much nicer, and the V12 sound is a favorite.

Plus, classic Ferrari technology can make it a usable car like the Vanquish S, but also allow it to be a fierce track competitor.

at my college, ford gave the college a supercharged 4.0 v8 (old xkr) and a v12 6.0 out of a db9 the aston engine had ford logos on the water pump and on the bottom of the block, no joke !
the jag had all its own branding

astons have improved since the shabby db7 but are not a 100% yet

As KoenigViper said, the F430 is replacement of the 360. They incorperate similar design, but the car has different characteristics, and I dont have a problem telling the differences between the two. For example the cut in rear lights like the enzo, the larger engine air intakes, the larger more curved front air intakes, etc..

If you put a DB9 next to a F430, and you sat in both of them and had a real good look around and feel, the F430s inside quality is noticably better than the Aston (dont get me wrong, im not saying the Aston is rubbish, its just not as good). Funnily enough, i have done that. But its not to say that the Ferrari quality is the best out there, sit in a McLaren SLR or a SL55/65 AMG and you'll see that there finish is probably one of the best around.

Until you've sat in more than just a few sports or supercars, you cant judge quality of a car, as you have to experience different cars and see how different manufacturers present and design their cars.

Usually, the two aren't compared side by side because they don't aim for the same results. Each car has pros and cons.

If I didn't care what you thought, I wouldn't be debating it with you in the first place. It's not an excuse for a personal attack on another member.

As another point - the DBS looks like the DB9 because it's a DB-series car. It just has much, much more aggressive styling, and I wouldn't mind betting the interior is different too. Personally like the Vanquish still though.

Plastic is good in this case, as it lowers weight instead of having a hugely weighty interior.

Doesnt make it look cheap and tacky, sit in one, and you'll realise what i've been saying about the quality inside. It Brakes up the Black and Red. I've alson Seen SLRs with different amounts of Black and Red interior combinations. And also almost pure Black / Red interiors.

OH that. That doesn't look cheap at all. I've had the chance to sit in the old Mercedes' Park Place one.
They had a 300SL sitting next to this black one in the dealer (donated until the SLR was sold). It was gorgeous. Nothing in the SLR looked cheap at all. My only concern is even at a little over 6 foot now, I had some problems with the seat being laid back so far. tonguegre Not to mention, it felt MUCH lower to the ground than any Ferrari I'd stepped out of.

I think that SLR auctioned off at over $600,000 by the dealer.

You can't compare it to the vanquish, nor the 599. The SLR costs more than both of them togheter. Only car you can compare it to is the Carrera GT, and I've seen that one passing by me. It beats the SLR like Hammond flicks a Suzuki SuperCarry :laugh:

Pfft. The SLR, although slightly lower performance-wise, is much more attractive. The Carrera GT is essentially a box on wheels with a spoiler at the back.

Carbon-Fibre is suited to race cars. The SLR is a GT.

Aluminium - greater mass, and harder to shape. Also shows up figure prints and dirt easily when polished.

Carbon Fibre - good material, but the interior wouldnt look as good, as it needs something other than a dark colour to brake it up.

The car is fine, sit in one and you wont be complaining. :)

The Slr weights 1,8 tonnes, and a aluminium dash would weight like 1 kg more, and i really dont think 1 kg more or less would make a such big difference..

Well, it makes a difference because its extra weight, little or not, it still will. And the fact that it wouldnt look as good either, is probably why they didnt go for it.

Its not cheap and plasticy anyway. As i said, sit in one, then if you can, compare to Ferrari and Lambo and Aston (ie, sitting in their models as well), then you'll be able to gauge the quality. :)

The dash is high quality aluminium in the SLR. It's more of a luxury gt, than a light weight race car. That's why it has satnav, 6-disk cd-player, phone, cruise control, electric seats.... I could go on and on.
