I must admit, i do want TDU but i have got to the point where Forza 2 is so close that if TDU were delayed again i would pass on it because an 8 player (if that's what its been reduced to) Moor isn't going to be as fun as a 12 player circuit race (in my opinion, realistically you'll find your favorite section of island and race it till the death before you move on)
It's almost like Atari have left it to the point where although there is still a following, because the gap between PGR and another decent driving game has been so long, 2 have come along within a couple of months and now people have a choice of what to buy!
Personally i think they missed out on a bit of a cash cow, and the excuse given of a cheaper launch by merging all format to one launch hasn't happened because other than the E3 demo there hasn't really been much info other than 360 info on the game.
I know Eden have been improving the gameplay physics etc. but TDU has now got to the point that if i had to i could wait to get this 2nd hand from game at a bargain, if i couldn't afford to buy it at release, and maybe Atari can learn that by setting a pesemistic release date and bringing it forward will have a much better effect than having an optimistic deadline and delaying it over and over again after all this game is to good to be another Juiced!!!
craigie22
19-08-2006, 01:23
and also they are releasing it around the same time as the kids (like me) go back to school. They've missed out on the holidays.
Yeah im in the U.S. and the release date is the day that my school starts. But I get to play with you guys on a friday so no homework because its the first day of school. :chapeau:

Well Volvo has come a long way since the 80s you know. Yes they still make heavy & safe cars, but I think the current line-up is quite stylish and they do know how to make fast cars. *dreams of a 850 T5 Estate* mdr1

Buying a mercedes isn't the best thing to do when you have that type of job. Neither was the Volvo so we got a mondeo :) in a colour that i call 'puke' Its the most unnickable car ever made! Even though its been broken into already lol

You may think what you please, but it's proven Volvo is about the safest car manufacturer in the world.
Their vehicles are not very exciting to drive except for the S60 R. But I do like them, and I like how much better their styling and ride has improved since the past.
Now the R models with 300Bhp have a very impressive ride and power for any Volvo. The only other Volvo I've driven that achieves this is the XC 90 with the V8 with 311Bhp.
It just appears to set a little higher than I imagined.
But back to the 2 R models, they are impressive and the only Volvos besides the XC 90 that I wanted to drive.
The next Volvo I plan to test drive is the S80 V8 model.
It has great styling that I like, and has some nifty little features. Park Place Volvo has only reported to me so far that most to S80s are orders and there's only 2 on the lot unsold.

The first car I've ever driven was a Volvo 343. And it was HORRID!.
It was my drivingschool's car so not much for choosing :) It was heavy, steered heavy and was slow.... soooooo slow. It was a diesel aswel, which made it even slower. (we didn't have them fancy fast TDI we got nowadays ;))
Two weeks before my final exam he got a VW Golf 1.9, boy what a difference!
Later I drove a 244 for the place I worked, again big heavy slow thing, but miles better then the 343. (the other company car was a Lada 1500 combi, deffinetly the worse car I've ever driven).
My dad had 2 Volvos since he used to work at the Volvo plant here in the Netherlands (currently Nedcar, and in financial promblems) A 345 and currently a '93 440 1.8. I can tell the latter is a verry nice car to drive, it doesn't feel half as big as it is. :)
I used to hate volvo's but they do make good cars nowadyas, and have done in the past, just the 80s was a dark age for the brand.
A volvo 480ES Turbo, PV544, P1800 or 124 "Amazone" are cars I wouldn't mind owning :p

Ok, first off... If you say volvo's are boring you probably never heard of the company EVOLVE. No?
Evolve is to Volvo what AMG or Brabus is to Mercedes.
They build things like the Volvo S40evolve:
http://www.rsportscars.com/foto/05/s40evolve04_02.jpg
S40 Evolve (http://www.rsportscars.com/eng/cars/evolve_s40.asp)
Type: Inline-5, Turbocharged
Displacement cu in (cc): 154 (2521)
Power bhp (kW): 425(317)
or the S60R:
http://www.evolvecars.com/albums/IrwindaleSpeedwayPhotoshoot/CIMG0597.sized.jpg
So you see, volvo's don't need to be boring :)

Offtopic:
They are amazingly good,
ok, since everybody is so into volvo here, a little bit of history...
Volvo has always been very into Safety and things like that so there has never been much money left for engines. Because of this they have always used Renault engines in their cars (don't know about the really really old ones...) that might be the reason for the not very sporty reputation of their cars, not considering the awfull look of the old cars. But in (i hope i get this right) 2001 everything changed when volvo left Renault and their engines and started putting their own custom engines in their cars. A little later they developed the D5 which is their top of the line Diesel engine, might not sound like fun but believe me, that thing goes like...euh...well fast.. :)
Now let's just wait and see if the new engines are as reliable as the old renault ones.
Oh and i used to own a 343R-sport as my first car... :) (123hp Wooot! :P)
some info 343R-sport (http://www.volvospy.com/resources/300/343rsport.php)
Ontopic:
I'm going to buy the game when it comes out straight away, i just can't wait to get my hands on it (pc version).
It looks great and sounds even better...
now it's just saving to buy myself a good pc to run it on.
I'll guess i'll play it on my old pc for now (5 years old) and wait until Vista and Directx 10 comes out next year...

Inline 5?? That's weird... :mefiant:
It's not that strange. Mercedes has used them in trucks/lorries and VW/audi have used them in cars as well. Probably even more brands.
Although the most common would be an inline-4 or a V6 there's numerous of different engine configurations. Inline, V, Boxer(flat), rotary (wankel, technicaly not using cylinders of course), 2,3,4,5,6 cylinders etc etc :)

you probably never heard of the company EVOLVE. No?
Ofc i've heard of EVOLVE, im swedish man ! And koenig, i like the new S80 too, really comfy ride ! But i really don't like the XC90, i mean have you ever sat in one ? Everything is made out of cheap plastics, even the aluminium is plastic! ;) The R models and the S80 is nice, but i don't like the others.. Volvos are quite expensive, and for that much money, i'd rather buy something nicer..
De_Charel
21-08-2006, 17:29
True, True...
i'm not a big XC90 fan either... or X5 or Cayenne Turbo S or Q7 quattro.
They are all hideous! But! i like the Range Rover Sport :)... but i wouldn't choose it over a defender.
The S40 and S80 are indeed expensive and if you want them tuned they come close to a Carrera 2 in price.
But you still got the Volvo underdog advantage...
Ok, it won't impress people if you say you got a S40, but they will be impressed if you say you got a porsche. Unless you drag race them... then the volvo S40evolve has a big HP advantage over a Carrera. (425 vs. 355)
Better buy a 911 then  420Hp ^^
To be honest i wouldn't buy them either, i'm more a Mitsu Evo fan :)
lillnickevinge
21-08-2006, 17:32
I don't like any tuned cars, and maybe i don't like Volvo because im swedish. There's like 3 volvo models in the top 10 sales list here in sweden, so you see them every day all the time :o
