View Full Version : Raceing set for TDU
Hey everyone, i found this set:
Logitech G25 Racing Wheel ( http://www.edbpriser.dk/Products/Listprices.asp?ID=232709 )
Now thats what i call a setup for your xbox, my questions are as following:
Will this also work with the xbox360? And will the clutch along with the H gearshifter work in TDU? No speculation please just pure facts hehe :) Cause its a lot of monney for me if it doesent work hehe If this set does not work on xbox360 and TDU is there something similar that does
Thanks - Cheers!

well ATM its either that or your gamepad you decided
MS are releasing a decent (apparently) wheel in a month or two along with some other accessories. I'm waiting for that.

do you know if it has clutch and H-Wheel?

No it doesn't. It has paddle shifters. I don't think you can get H shift and clutch for xbox. This new MS one will be the best on the market when it is released, to the best of my knowledge.

E-mail them and ask why they havn't. You might get lucky and recieve a reply answering your question. Alternatively, they must have a forum somewhere where someone would know if it's possible or why they can't do it.

If you see a PC wheel it doesnt mean it will work as it uses usb. The xbox has a certain driver set which only 360 wheels or pads will work to. Im not sure if there is one out. But i would only buy one if it was force-feedback which gives a better feel. The old xbox was cracked to the point of where you could install drivers etc. or vice versa. Using a 360 product on the pc is easy. a pc you can install a driver or beta driver from a 3rd party such as coders etc. but to get a pc product to work on a 360. no chance. well not yet. but i wouldnt ***** or do anything like that due to what it could do to the games industry if everyone STOLE software. True if you chip an xbox you dont have to use stolen software. but its still against the law now thank god. and people who chip consoles are doing it to steal....nuff said
If a steering wheel with feedback is coming out for the 360 i would be intrested. the force feedback thrustmaster farrari wheel i have is amazing with toca on my pc. So i would like to see that on my 360 with TDU all on my HDtv........Feel the force - TDU

Back when i was into GPL, it was a tough ask to pick what wheel to buy. You really needed it to be precise, but it was hell choosing between the different makes and FF/No FF.
I ended up picking the No FF MS Sidewinder Force, because i hated the FF Logitech Momo Racing (Black).
Ive stuck with it every since (albeit with a squash ball under the brake), but am now tempted with this G25. Problem is, its Force Feedback!
Oh the old problem again!
Here's a link to it so you know what your looking for.

If you find out when it's released or how much it costs then let me know.

How come you don't like the FF feature. I think it gives more feel of what the car is doing. You can feel the road and when the wheels bite and stuff through the wheel. It should work well with forza2 and project gothem. I don't think TDU supports FF, I'd like to be proved wrong though.

When your into very realistic PC simulations like Grand Prix Legends, which are devilishly hard and require hundreds of hours to even become moderately competitive, you become very specific about what you do/do not want and what does/does not help your playing experience and laptimes.
Force Feedback was a feature that roughly split the sim community in half - one half found it greatly increased realism and 'feel' for the road, the other half couldnt get past the rough gears and cogs that gave the entire thing a mechanical feel and lag that didnt translate to 'realistic' in their brains.
There was one old wheel that was different - instead of cogs and gears, it used cables and belts to dampen the mechanical feel and make the FF smooth - it was made by Logitech and it was the most advanced FF system, but it was phased out and rare and i never got try one - the idea has never been repeated in another wheel. Just goes to show that the best ideas, arent always the most succesful ideas -

Its a very personal thing and theres no real explanation beyond that - the sensation current FF implementations provide convinces some brains, does not convince others. Generally, it also slows laptimes, but makes it easier to lap consistently.
For normal racing games, FF is great - it doesnt make it harder, and it makes racing exciting. But in more serious simulations, for me, it became a distraction.

Fair comment. I've heard of a couple of these real sims, they sound like my cup of tea but I've never tried one.
There's a new wheel coming out soon, quite expensive, made by frex which is supposed to be a bit of a revolution in wheels.
here's a link to a vid of it in action, sort of, if your interested.

They make quite a few gaming gadgets apparently.
They guy in the video must have been cooking a pie in the oven or something, this would account for the gloves.

Thanks for that link, i like to keep an eye on new simulation and hardware developments, i hadnt heard of that one though. I only knew of their pedals - which, mind you, cost $450 AU for a conversion set!
Unfortunately, GPL feels a little dated now, and nothing could fairly be called its spiritual successor - there is the very authentic but somewhat sedate GTR (first one, GTR2 actually waters down the original), the not so exciting GTL, the home grown Netkar Pro, and you might like Live for Speed or Rfactor, but I just dont get into them.
Then theres Racing Legends (www.west-racing.com/forums) that was announced after WSC (World Sports Cars), being developed by two brothers and heralded as the spiritual successor to GPL was canned. It is now two years since the last announcement, so dont hold your breath.
In terms of peripherals, well not much movement either. The G25 seems a genuinely great product in the consumer market, with other options being the old Act Labs wheels, MS FF and non FF wheels, only the new Logitech red and black Momos, and the old Logitech cable driven FF wheel. Pedals, however, are often a weak point in the consumer market.
Then there is a whole slew of low volume pro wheel manufacturers, who make wheels easily costing $300-$500 US (eg from TSI), even topping out at $2000 US for an ECCI wheel. Same for pedals.
But generally speaking, not much has changed or progressed since GPL. You might like GTR or some of the others, but none allow you to be immersed like GPL did. Personally, i play GTR 1. The physics are more accurate these days, but not as challenging or emergent as GPL.
In terms of wheels, the G25 is the only consumer market progress for years. In the more dedicated wheels/pedals market, there are some new models, but nothing unexpected and all extraordinarily expensive. Do note that a hugely expensive wheel is a plus, not a necessity - I use a stock MS Sidewinder non force, with just a squash ball as a modification. It served fine for GPL and all other racing games due to its great accuracy, and cost $110 AU.
All in all, not a great state for racing simulations.
EDIT - sorry, i had in fact heard of that wheel. It is not a standalone wheel, but a conversion kit for another, consumer market wheel, such as my own MS Sidewinder. If your consumer market wheel has FF, then the converted FrexGP wheel would also, but it would still be the FF of your original wheel. Pretty impressive, but nothing extraordinary.
I should also mention BRD, the only major development on the hardware front. Their new Speed 7 pedals are superb by all accounts, and their proposed Speed 7 wheel should have the most advanced FF implementation to date. Again, extraordinarily expensive - http://www.interactiveracing.com/Steering_Wheels/Speed7/
That supprises me somewhat. Quite a shame really. Ahh, so that wheel would be an add on then.
Thanks for those links I'll check them out. I'm not sure I'll get to play any of the PC racing sims that are around. I've spent enough and have more to spend on this xbox and related setup so I would stop playing games on the PC. I'm self employed so I have to be a bit tough on myself to get things done. When there are games on the PC ]I can't help but start them up. If I can get all the gaming activities moved over to the 360 and stay off it until about 6-8pm I should get quite a bit more work done on the PC. This too is quite a shame as I've enjoyed PC gaming for many years now and I'm sure I'll be missing out in one way or another. I know I'll be happy with the 360 once I get this new ms wheel so it's not all doom and gloom. Well, there's no doom.
I'm going to check out the BRD kit, it sounds quite good.
Here's an interesting thread and a decent site if you aren't aware of it.

Actually, the FrexGP wheel you linked to is their new FF 900 degree wheel, which is going to be great with its belt driven feedback like the old Logitech Wingman Force - but they also make conversion wheels. Youll notice that a few companies are putting 900 degree wheels into production recently - BRD, Frex and Logitech. These are pretty much all thats new in simracing hardware.
As for PC gaming, well its in a lull at the moment, you really arent missing out on very much right now. Sure GTR is good and all, but its just not 'it', and its been so long since a great sim has come out that the community has lost its 'zest', or taken up residence in other racing games, like i have here. Im sure that when a great sim finally comes out again, youll hear of it.
As for the BRD stuff, well its hard to go better, but your a madman no less!
I know of racesim central of course, but heres another great site for those unaquainted with these sites - http://www.bhmotorsports.com/. This site will give you a good idea of whats new, and its also got the GPL 2004 demo - which shows how well regarded it is, some 6 years after release in 1998 (the demo incorporates community mods to improve graphics, so its not such a sight for sore eyes).
EDIT - oh, as a final aside, i noticed the original GTR will be released on the Xbox 360 in 2007.
