Hi people, im wondering if anybody out thre reading this has managed to complete the tantalus time trial. ive completed evey other single player challenge in the game, however i just cant ***** this one! any tips on vehicle choice would be welcome! thanks lord vader uk. :)
having the same trouble here. another post suggested using a more controlable car than an A class car. i will try again today. i failed miserably with my enzo... i'll have to see which one to pick next.
the traffic is really killing me on this one. the course is challenging already, but i swear the traffic sometimes just tries to piss you off as much as possible.
i think i am quite able in driving on the sidelines of the road, but i can't even get to the finishing line in time on this one, not even talking about penalty time due to leaving the road and accidents.

yes same here, ive looked at the top times in the world and some of them are well over a minute below the gold cup 7 mins 30 secs! must be some sort of cheat or short cut? :mefiant:
maybe a shortcut, as speed doesn't necessarily get you far on this one. i'll look out for possible shortcuts tonight.
don't you just hate it as well when npc traffic takes a turn just when you were about to overtake them on the sidestrip ?! :)

I completed this yesterday using my fully tuned Enzo and it was a nightmare.
The time factor wasn't a problem because I could get to the destination in 7.00, what was the problem is the damage incurred adding to the time. So because I realised I had plenty of time to spare I made sure I didn't hit anything during the first 5 miles which is the twisty section. Once I was away from this section I floored it memorizing the exact route.
The other aspect of this trial which was a nightmare is sickness as I shall explain. I play using the view where you just see the dials and everytime I did the twisty section it made me feel sick. I haven't suffered travel sickness since I was a child but after spending 1hr trying to do this challenge I actually ended up being sick and had to switch my 360 off for 2hrs!.

the whole prospect of the ai cars on this challenge is hideous, they seem to pop up over every blind crest and at every point where you cant avoid going on to the 'wrong' side of the road!

its official, I HATE THIS CHALLENGE! is stopping me from getting the achievements and is pissing me right off!

Every time I was on a blindcrest I virtually came to a stop in order to avoid the cars.
Im trying to do all the hitchhiker missions perfect so I use the same principle which is if your unsure what lies ahead hit the brakes.

there has to be a shortcut for the number 1 time to be in the low 6 minute bracket! im up at the challenge right now and getting more and more frustrated!

I had to step it down a notch from my stage 3 Enzo and use my un-tuned f430... you dont have to go quite as fast as you think, just be consistent, and dont hit traffic.

Ahaha... i made a user challenge which you will see in the drive-in whenever the 50 limit cap is removed... it is aptly named "the vomit run" and uses tantalus, and a few other roads... it is 11.6 miles long and has over 115 turns in it, and aproximatly 2 miles of strait road. i did the reference time in my elise r, and i ended up having to run it more than 5 times to get the checpoits placed correctly, to eliminate the possiblility of shortcuts... i NEVER get sick driving, or playing video games... and i honestly felt like **** after creating the challenge. ;)
finished it yesterday, with my ford gt, no trouble, no shortcut and time to spare.
seems like the trick with this ride is really to rather use a more forgiving car than an a class and to not push the edge in the mountainous region. recently i seem to have developed a driving style the sort of goes more with the flow of what the car wants to do anyways, which suits this race perfectly (don't know if this makes sense).

Ahh..I'm currently trying in the Noble M12, With the Driving Aid setting.
I just cant do it. I get too about 2 miles left with a minute and half, but by the time i go off the road down there im screwed, because of all the time i lost up the top.
Anyone got any more advice?

Man thats a hard one but thanks for whoever said ford gt. I tried it in the merc mclaren, mclaren f1, enzo, lambos etc etc and always missed it by 10 secs or so, ford gt, 2nd try, got it with 15 secs to spare or something!!

Wow... I guess I should be the gaming guy... I got it on the first try with a Stage 3 Enzo... :mefiant: maybe not with flying colors but I still got the gold... I found the hardest part was to avoid going off road. I like mountain driving so I thought it was fun...

*shameless self promotion* try "the vomit run" in custom challenges for a revised, longer and harder run.... impossible to cheat. a guy has a good best time right now... I must beat it. No traffic, by the way... makes it more enjoyable

The road is quite bumpy, so you really dont need anything super fast as it unsettles the car and will cause wheelspin. You want something that handles more over top speed really. And dont rush, wheelspin/drifting and skidding are all factors that sound fast, but are infact scrubbing your speed.

yeh this race is uber gay my mclaren would have beaten it if they didnt have that gay *** drving point thing,

totally, i mean, why should you be made to drive on the road and not hit other cars? that just doesnt make any sense in a driving game rolleyesa

I think i just did this one today, without any problem and possibly in my F1

driving points take like half the fun of racing away, whats the fun in loosing after hitting a car while going 200 mph and watching it fly :P
i done this in my slr, my advice would be the first couple of sharp turns, take them easy try not to hit on coming traffic even if u hav to drive 20mph, after u hav taken the bends u wil get some straight roads where u can put ur foot down. it is very hard i hav to say i even found the masarati one hard (time trial) but this was the worst i litrally had to take the xbox of the normal tv and put it on the hdtv so i could see the cars appearing infront for less collisions after about 30 odd tries i finally did it, i was buzzin lol :bravo:
i realised that the reson i wasnt winning this coz i was trying to hard, forget about winning just concentrate on the collisions. if u colide in the first 3 bends u might aswel restart good luck :atari:

Right!!
Finally cracked this one lastnight. :bravo:
After trying a few different cars (Cateram S3, Gallardo S3, Ford GT S3, SLR S3, ENZO S3).
The Enzo did it with around 6 seconds to spare (keeping the driving at 200), and I must say it was fairly easyier than I imagined, I think the tip is to really relax on the hill section and use throttle control (try to avoid spinning the wheels), I only pressed the trigger fully down 3-4 times on that section.
When it opens out, floor it mdr1
The only thing that annoys me is the section where it makes you drive on the opposite side of the road ?? :nono:
I honestly thought I woud have been better in the cateram 7, with its wicked accelleration and grip, the top end lets it down in the final stages though. (very fun to drive though).

You can turn a bit earlier and drive on the correct side of the dual carriageway - just the GPS getting a bit confused I think.

Ahh I did think that, but after making it thus far, didnt want to risk it..
I tried every A class car but then I eventually bought a Maclaren F1 GTR and completed it with that no probs!! But it was the last timetrial I had to complete and it was damn tough!!
You should be off the mountain roads and hitting the intersection in just about the 3min mark, then keep on yuor side of the road unless the opposite is clear and gun it BUT only for a few secs, the traffic will load on the other side if you have too much of a run. Also take the first right at the stop sign for some reason it want's you to go down the wrong side but it's easier to go the right way, there's slight turn right and then a sharp left at the light so slow down after exiting the overpass or you'll miss it. Now stick to the shoulder and gun it but only to about 150mph, keep at it and the rest should be ok from there.
Just remember at turns the traffic will be worse so just slow down and go for it once they pass, also in jumps, slow right down as the AI cars slow down for these, also if you can't see the other side don't attempt to try it as you'll usually just colide into a car or even worse a sign and go offroad.
I did it an Enzo Stage 3 but looking at it I guess I never really had to as I never really used it's full potential. Some hitchhikler missions are god practice for this challenge as you need to drive the same way in these as you for Tantalus.

First time, stock Murcielago :)
Enzo stage 3. With 4 seconds to spare including penalties!
This was the final challenge I needed to get the 60 achievment points for ALL challenges (and the time challenges achievement of course). Boy did I breath a sigh of relief after that one!

I tried in loads of cars inclueding the Ford Gt as advised in this thread and did it 3rd time in the Corvette Z06 Stage 3 tuned. Its quite narrow and I swear there was less traffic than with other cars.
Tried to drive cautiously as apposed to fast touched a couple of cars and did it with 3 seconds left. It was my last challenge and wow I was pleased with myself! :bravo:
I eventually did it in my stock McLaren F1 LM after trying out loads of other cars.
The thing I think helped the most was turning driving aids onto the "Driving Aid" setting (I usually use "Supersport" or "Off").
This is the last race I need to complete the game, after an hour I had to give up in mystage 3 murcelago, gonna try the ford gt in a bit.

Hi!
I put a video on youtube showing me driving on tantalus. It should give some hints to those who have difficulties with it. Just search something like tdu tantalus or test drive unlimited tantalus.

Completed it first out with plenty of time to spare in an un-tuned F430 Spider.
Then tried it again, this time with stage 3 Enzo and flunked as I left the road or hit too many obstacles.
Back to the untuned F430 and once again an easy complete.
I think the lesson here is that just because the car has the highest performance figures, it doesn't mean it is the best one for the job.

i have no clue why people think that this is the hardest race. i finished it first time in a stage 3 enzo. i was also telling my freind to do it at the same time in a stage 3 s7 and he also did it first time.
there should be more races like this, the harder the better :-)
