360 and custom mp3's

Ok I'm sorry if its been asked before or its a noobs question but I only got my 360 this morning and TDU!!! Wooo hooo!

Anyway, can I connect a usb key to transfer mp3s to play on my 360 or do i have to use media centre via a network?

Just plug the MP3 into a USB port and start listening.
Press the guide button, select the source and press Y to play all the songs.
