View Full Version : Test Drive Unlim: Another City?

EvolAdvocate

Wondering if there are any plans to release another Test Drive Unlimited but with a new location anytime down the line. I don't know how much time goes into developing an engine vs. inserting the content, but I would be glad to purchase another Test Drive Unlim game that was the exact same engine with new content.

Test Drive San Francisco anyone? :).. That would rule!

i think they've already got a new place in mind for TDU2

but it would be an island

San Fransisco would have to have 'virtual' walls that would stop people playing past the area which would suck

Now that I think about it, too, another location would require TONS of graphics work. I wonder if a paid expansion would be possible for another hawaiian island, like Maui or something.

The other hawaiian islands would be a bit limited.

I would imagine there is a huge amount of work that goes into constructing the environment.

To be honest anything as big as the UK or bigger is to much of a task, i would suspect they would wnt to keep the standards of it accurate "down to the block" as they say, so imagine doing the UK, think of how many houses there are in the UK, how many roads ect, way to big of a task, unless theyre already started on it, from the begining it would take 6-7 years (estimate)

Id think Ireland wouldnt be to bad.

But who know maybe sometime in the future we will have downloadable addons to it to extend it, then you can goto the airport and take a plane to ireland lolblue:

or vancouver island, BC, Canada? that would work out pretty well.. althoug it is a bit on the large side i guess.... 2,000 sq mi smaller than GB, and about 15 times bigger than oahu..... for referance. Oahi is aput 600 - 620 square miles, depending on the source. Id be interested to know how much more area they could muster... although i think id rather see a little higher polygon density in the roads first.

Better to drive on the left as you have more control of the wheel (the most important bit) as most are right handed (tonguegre), in NZ they also DRIVE ON THE LEFT, and it looks like you're not very good at geography either are you?

You have no idea.

I've done my fair share of basic model making and it's hard work. It take's week to perfect just that one car, doing a whole city would take months, and months of work. And making sure to get it as low poly as possible but still making it look good is a huge task. I would rather they just concentrate on the Physics and the cars, i don't care where i drive, aslong as im driving something.

(Low poly = game runs better)

They could work together with companies that specialize in road mapping for example GPS systems.

These companies do road mapping using a kind of mobilhome filled with camera's on both sides to film all the house numbers and buildings. they could use these images to create whole maps of cities and map the world.

that would be cool. These worlds would be able to being used by other game companies as well to create a real virtual earth. wouldn't that! be cool

they're doing it right now and have done it before. How else do you think TOMTOM knows when you arrive at destination when you give the system your house number in your street ?

My TomTom DOESN'T know my house number (it can't find my house - just the raod) and that is due to how it works, it is done using maps/postal codes not some crazy-*** spy van. lolblue:

Also there is a difference between mapping a road and filming everyone's house and getting details like that to sell on to whoever, a game developer, spam list, etc.

This could be done over years, slowly covering the whole globe little by little. Heh it might take 50-100 years, when we could be buying TDU part 10 or 20 :)

If its islands they want to stick too,you couldnt go past TDU Tasmania. Its not too big,has all sorts of roads,eg,city, freeway, country, coastal, mountain. It has 2 racetracks?(Symons plains where the v8s race, and another one)

where's Tasmania? its part of Australia, and is south of Melbourne. It has some of the best motorbike roads in the world :bravo: ,still has a lot of its natural wilderness untouched, and we could catch the spirit of Tasmania ferry over from Melbourne or Sydney.

Now ive got another idea where we could do a TDU Moon with moon buggies....
