After playing around with the nwn2 toolset I sort of have mixed feelings. so much things are still missing and unclear.
Obsidian is a good developer, but Bioware is a great developer. I think it would be better if Bioware made their own sequels and Obsidian would start making their own games.
Pretty much everyone considers KOTOR1 to be better than KOTOR2, while bioware's name will guarantee good sales they are expected to make an even better game than Bioware did, Sequels are supposed to be better after all.
I really wish the best for Obsidian but its just a bad idea to try to be better than Bioware. I mean... its bioware!
Sequels are supposed to be better after all.
No, sequals are supposed to continue where the prior part ended, or somewhere after, or simply have the same settings or something. If nothing else it just means there's some link to the prior. (I must admit I'm not currently in my best state and am too lazy to google it up, so excuse me if I'm wrong)
Sequal never means better (even if an attempt to that is made), in fact they are rarilly, if ever, rated equal or better by the users.

Sequel = Noun
Something that follows
or
A literary, dramatic, or cinematic work whose narrative continues that of a preexisting work.
or
A result or consequence.
Like many other games that are sequels, as well as movies and books, all a sequel has to have is one thing the same and it's useable. NWN2 has hundreds of things the same. *shrug*
and I like bioware AND obsidian. Both are really great at customer support which is what keeps MY business :)
:atari:
Bioware tends to be very polished and reasonably well balanced combat wise. However personally I think Obsidian spin a better story but in the past have been forced to release too early by the money men.
Fortunatly, it looks like this time the money guys (Atari) have given Obsidian lots of time to clear stuff up, so hopfully we will get a fun playable game. My bet is the OC will blow anything that NWN1 had to offer out of the water in terms of single player.
It is very easy to look at the past with rose tinted glasses. Do not forget NWN1 has had over 4 years of bug fixes and aditional content. At release NWN1 toolset was perhaps even more buggy than NWN2 pre-release. Also, the Original Campaign was lackluster in my opinion.

I am rather certain that the campaign will be better than the nwn1 one but its the multiplayer part I am worried about.
Bioware did prove with Jade Empire and Knights of the Old Republic that they can make amazing stories. I think that its easy to loose interest when every little side quest isnt spoken but just text.
Sadly I didnt have nwn1 on the release but a few months later. And it took even some more months before I tried out the toolset.
I know that sequels might not be meant to be better but its expected from them regardless. It is expected that they have all that was good from the original plus new things. The better the original was the more fans demand from a sequel.
Just look at some other game series.
Age of Empires for example, 1 was revolutionary, it was the base of historic rts games. part 2 managed to go much further in detail and was a great improvement. Part 3 however didnt give much new things compared to other historical rts games. They also chose to focus on america completely and forgot about all the important things that happened in europe in that time.
or mortal kombat. first it was just a few fighters but throughout the sequels more fighters became available, more finishing moves, more blood, better graphics, everything got improved. It weakened through the last few games though.
While sequels are not always meant to be better and just meant to continue the story, people always expect more from it than from the original.

Just wait till you get the full game InhumanOne the original campaign in NWN 2 is imo 4x better than the OC in NWN 1 or in SOU or HOTU. The OC in NWN 2 is the best Neverwinter Nights campaign I've played to date.
I seriously doubt you'll be dissapointed in NWN 2. I know I'm not :)

I got the game and sadly I am dissappointed on some levels, nothing that wont be fixed in the coming months though but its more fixing than I presumed there would be.
The game doesnt work correctly yet, the game runs laggy on medium and low graphics. It didnt get worse when I was online and a few mages decided to test out their big spells. It stayed the same.
I can run oblivion on high graphics so I am not sure what the problem is with nwn2. I heard it will be fixed in a patch which I am waiting for now.
the game is playable but the laggyness causes too much annoyance to really enjoy it.
I was extremely dissappointed when I looked at the toolset though, only the companions and npcs are added since the prerelease toolset and nothing else.
I expected a big load of more armor and clothing since numbers were missing and its rather rediculous that there are more shoulder pad models than outfits in the game. Some armor attachment slots still dont have any appearances at all.
I know that the community will make some amazing work but they shouldnt rely on them so much. They need the game to stand on its own feet.
